This is interesting...why now? 

In all the years I have been watching this I have only seen the CBI talk about note security maybe 2-3 times. 

In another article, we see the CBI talk about the "next period" going all electronic transactions,

yet today they are telling citizens to make sure you are not using counterfeit currency.  

IMO, since this is all over the local media,

it appears to be something almost from the World Bank (like the delete zeros articles were back in 2012) to inform as many as possible.  

Almost in anticipation of something. 

Maybe the CBI plans to activate the banking system (deposit insurance,etc) in the next few weeks luring citizens to bring their dinar into the banks.  

We just have to let it play out and see what happens.

Thug it's interesting that Kap brought this up.  Truly, he is right because once they in-act the deposit insurance, the people need to know the notes they hold are valid because the CBI may be moving toward something that would absolutely motivate the people to deposit the Chunky Money!  With the CBI Law 2004 now amended, IMO the private sector banking can now move forward in the private sector investment and they are going to need deposits...ie... capital!    It's been a long journey right?

The article showing security features of their currency at this time frame is if not one of the two articles we seek, it sure is a contender for one of them, imo.!

For the 250, 500 and 1,000 note to be openly used by the CBI noted in the article for security features, is for a good reason that we all should see right out the gate...

There is no reason to worry about those notes with present 1184 program rate, now add the international calculation into the mix and you have a very valid reason to make people aware for what they have and own..

And if one is a veteran in this investment, one better have had that on ones mind a long time ago! imo.

It clearly is now (imo) a signal to every one that may own or will be using the new notes we expect in the near (Let's hope immediate future.) future to be part of the quiver of currencies coming soon not to discard.

We all know by now they have introduced new ATMs in the country.

They are going to need a medium of exchange of course, however, as here in the USA we use more and more debt cards than cash, no different for Iraq into the future and keep in mind this Marshal Plan they are going through is going to be in technical terms far more advanced in Finance than back in Germany and Japan.

They have now have access to the best banking features in the world!

Let us not forget that there is a mind by the CBI to use 50k and 100K notes in the future.

Realize they are 3 Zero notes, however, they are not necessarily for the overall public.

The public may want some if they can afford them, but, large transactions will be there utility.

E-Dinar will be used for personal and commercial transactions.

Here are a few obvious points…

1) I find it a little curious all this recent “float vs. no-float” talk in the marketplace lately.  

2) Dated today, the CBI decides to put a “how to spot fake currency” memo…

3) Did  anyone happen to notice the last 3 notes?

[referencing picture] I had to go back to my currency and dig out these notes to figure out what they were. 

That is a 1k, a 500 Dinar and a 250 Dinar note.  

WHY IN THE WORLD WOULD THE CBI BOTHER TELLING ANYONE HOW TO SPOT A FAKE 1K, 500 Dinar and 250 Dinar note?? 

The 1k is worth less than $1 right now… the 500 is about .50 and the 250 is not even worth a quarter!!

Central Bank warns citizens of counterfeit currency

The Central Bank of Iraq published on Wednesday special pictures containing security signs of the Iraqi currency, asking citizens to know them to avoid falling into the trap of counterfeit currency, which spread in the country.

The instructions of the Central Bank came less than two weeks after the publication of the "new Arab" report on the twenty-ninth of December last, revealed the unprecedented spread of counterfeit currency , in light of weak government control of currencies traded, as an official of the Ministry of Interior that At least 200 counterfeit currency networks are active in different parts of the country.

A statement by the central bank on its website entitled "Know Your Money", contains pictures of Iraqi currencies and security signs, which can distinguish between real and counterfeit currency.

The currencies included 250 dinars to 50 thousand dinars, accompanied by arrows indicating security signs, which include safety thread, watermarks, transparent ink and transparent window.

Bank experts say the signs help citizens identify the right currencies from counterfeited trading, buying, selling and trading.

Financial expert Abdul Samie Al-Jubouri told Al-Arab Al-Jadid that the Central Bank's publication of these instructions was due to the spread of organized forgery, adding that this step would "prevent fraud by introducing citizens to counterfeit currencies directly."

" Citizens should learn and keep security signs because they are necessary in financial transactions, sales, buying and trading, especially for exchange companies and offices," he said.

Hardly a month passes but security authorities reveal a network of counterfeiting and printing presses for counterfeit currency, according to security sources.

Currency traders and money changers talk about counterfeit currency controls daily through audits with accumulated experience.

Amer al-Salhi, the owner of a money exchange in the capital Baghdad , "The currency checks to detect counterfeit them take time and effort, but necessary, and daily reveal the Iraqi currency worth between 200 to 300 dollars."

Been thinking about the 10 cent rate all day and something doesn"t make sense.  If they drop the zeros, and the 250 note becomes 25 , and 500 becomes 50 , why did they ever issue the 50,000 note ? What purpose will that serve when they delete the zeros?

One reason for issuing the 50K (they have not yet introduced, if ever, the 100K) notes, as I understand it, is to reduce the note count on the street to pull in as many of the lower large denomination notes as possible.

 

I have some 50K IQD notes. They are really cool. I will consider getting 100K IQD notes if they become available pre event.

Thanks, Synopsis.  My thinking is that with the 50,000 note, it will have to become 5000 because, at a .10 rate, the 500 note will become 50 .  Why would they need a note worth $5000? 

 

UNLESS.....upon dropping the zeros.....

 

 50,000 equals $50 

 25,000 equals $25 

 10,000 equals $10 

 5000 equals $5

 1000 equals $1

 500 equals $0.50 

 250 equals $0.25 

 

 And there's our $1.00 RV.  The 100 note will come out when they issue the lower denomination bills.

 

 This is one way that the large notes can exist side-by-side with the lower notes that will come out. What do you guys think?

My hubby is looking on the CBI website right now and it's showing the 25,000 note is worth $30 US right now. Wasn't it worth $20? Did it go up by $10?
