Looks like Maliki is trying to keep his immunity to stay out of jail.He will trade 

his dropping out of the elections or causing trouble for a trip to Iran.

The Counter Point to Maliki thinking he might be able to cut a deal in exchange for immunity ( perhaps that might just be what's on his mind), however foolish and myopic as that is; the better deal they should give him is, in exchange for his ability to leave the room ( and not in a body bag ) is to disappear and keep his mouth shut or he forfeits his worthless life.
