Newspaper policy : Abadi choose Baathists to form his electoral coalition

Newspaper: Abadi choose Baathists to form his electoral coalition

 Twilight News

The list of candidates for the Iraqi general elections scheduled for next month revealed the dominance of candidates from military backgrounds or associated with prominent figures in the regime of former President Saddam Hussein, most of the figures advanced in the regulations of the "victory coalition" "Led by Prime Minister Haider Abadi, which competes in the provinces with a Sunni majority.

The Electoral Commission finalized the final list of candidates after submitting it to the Ministry of the Interior and the Justice and Accountability Office to ensure that there are no criminal records of the names contained therein or its inclusion in de-Baathification proceedings.

Commenting on the existence of Baathist names in the lists of the coalition of Abadi, a former deputy of the Iraqi parliament approved the province of Salah al-Din, the existence of a state of rejection increasingly expressed by the Sunni street vis-à-vis his representatives in the political process, saying, "However, none of those politicians did not announce his withdrawal from the political process . Their names still top the electoral lists representing the main blocs that have presented themselves throughout the previous three legislative sessions representing the Sunni component. "

"Ebadi seems to have taken that situation into consideration when he chose his candidates in areas where traditional Sunni politicians no longer have the confidence of their people," said the former deputy.

According to the same spokesman, who asked not to be named, "If Abadi has resorted to the selection of figures who had worked for many years in the Iraqi state, especially in the military field, it is due to what the Iraqi military institution is characterized by credibility reflected on the performance of its members and their reputation in society. Which can be considered late recognition of a man calculated on a political party known for its hostility to the former regime with the efficiency and professionalism of the regime's men. "

He also pointed to the existence of what he called a "utilitarian aspect in the step taken by Abadi is that the candidates included in the lists in the provinces with a Sunni majority have the confidence of residents of those provinces, which will be successful Kfthm compared to the old faces that consumed corruption reputation of their owners, The government is seeking to gain more votes in the Sunni provinces in an attempt to compensate for what is expected to decrease the proportion of supporters in the Shiite provinces because of the entry of leaders of the popular crowd on the electoral line there.

Former Iraqi Defense Minister Khaled al-Obeidi heads the list of "victory" in Nineveh, centered in Mosul. Al-Ubaidi is a senior Iraqi army officer who continued to serve him until the fall of the Baath Party in 2003.

Al-Obeidi entered the Iraqi parliament in the 2010 and 2014 sessions to run for the second term on the alliance of "United" led by Osama Najafi for the post of defense minister, which he could not complete his term because of his dismissal after sharp differences with Parliament Speaker Salim al-Jubouri.

In Kirkuk, where Baghdad has regained some of its influence, since October, Abadi has chosen a close associate with former Iraqi Vice President Izzat al-Douri to form his electoral victory list.

He denied close to Abadi to the "Arabs", be Sufian Omar Ali, leader of the tribe, "Naim" candidate on the list of victory in Kirkuk. But local sources confirmed that "Ali, is responsible for the formation of the list and the selection of its members."

Ebadi's dependence on such figures in the Sunni provinces may boost his fortunes and allow him more seats.

Al-Ali is linked to the league, which led US forces to arrest him in 2004, before releasing him for lack of evidence against him.

Al-Ali knew his public objections to Iranian influence in Iraq, and his name was associated with the support of the Iraqi List led by Iyad Allawi in 2010, before he appeared in 2014 as leader of a tribal rally in Kirkuk.

Local sources say that "Al-Ali currently presides over all the election activities that belong to the list of slaves in Kirkuk, and calls on the people to elect."

In Anbar, Abadi's list is led by former Iraqi army officer Rafie Abdul Karim al-Fahdawi. Although al-Fahdawi has known tribal leadership since 2003 and has not presented himself as a former officer, his involvement in al-Qa'ida and al-Qa'ida has revealed his military background.

Al-Fahdawi is not the only one who has a military background in Al-Abadi's list in Anbar. Other figures include Sabah Jawad, who holds an advanced degree in military science from a university under Saddam Hussein's Iraqi Defense Ministry.

In Salah al-Din, al-Abbadi's list includes a group of candidates from military backgrounds, including Badr al-Fahal and Amer Yussef.

When al-Obeidi was dismissed from the position of defense minister, in the government of Abbadi, Rafa al-Fahdawi and Badr al-Fahal were nominated to fill this bag.

Observers say Ebadi's reliance on such figures in Sunni provinces may boost his fortunes and allow him more seats.

Apr 10, 2018

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - As elections near Iraq are due to be held on May 12, the price of a "voter card" is more than $ 200, and some candidates and political blocs spend millions of dollars on propaganda campaigns.
Information indicates that the "stock market" of election cards, ranging from $ 100 to $ 250 per vote.
The MP from the Islamic Supreme Council, a member of the al-Fateh coalition led by al-Amiri, Abdul Karim al-Naqib, called on citizens to "not listen" to the promises made by the candidates on election days, because most of them are "untrue." , Will not offer anything after ».
In a statement to Al-Quds Al-Arabi, he described the vote buying process as "shameful and immoral." "We heard about such cases that the ticket price was between $ 100 and $ 200," he said.
He continued: «Some candidates have large funds, often sources are illegal, and came through the theft of public money», noting that these funds «are used today to buy votes».
It is clear that there is a disparity in the size of the electoral propaganda and media campaigns of the candidates, depending on the size of the funds in the blocs and candidates. He asked the Independent Electoral Commission to take its role in asking the candidate "Where do you get this money you spend on such electoral propaganda?", In addition to monitoring the electoral campaign, and the commitment to the rules of electoral conduct, as well as not to benefit from public funds and the potential of the state, For not using the government effort in electoral propaganda.
He went on to say: «The Commission must take action to withdraw the nomination of the person from the elections, in the event of violation of the conditions of election propaganda, and not punished, there are those who have the funds and are willing to pay the fine».

External money

A member of the «Fatah» coalition that there are foreign funds entered Iraq to support candidates and political blocs, in order to influence the Iraqi political decision.
He said: "There is political money pumped in these elections, through the volume of election propaganda and the purchase of votes and to do some projects and give gifts and money, which happens in many areas».
He added: "If we compare the amount of money owned by the candidate compared to the income you enter, we find it illogical, even if the candidate is a former deputy in parliament, where he has millions of dollars that he now spends, especially since the limits of financial sources known.
He stressed «the entry of external money to Iraq, in order to play the Iraqi political process, through these countries to have (not named) role and center of gravity in the future Iraqi political decision» he said.

Methods of "circumvention"

Methods of "circumvention" to purchase electoral votes, including the appointment of observers of political entities at the polling stations. Thousands of persons appointed as "observers of a political entity" for one day (polling day) for a variable amount of money, provided that the "observer" votes for the candidate who appointed him and educates him for his election while in the polling station.
Saad al-Muttalibi, a member of the coalition of state law, led by al-Maliki, revealed to «Arab Jerusalem» the «circumvention» some political blocs to buy votes, «the appointment of thousands of people as observers of political entities in the polling stations, for one day, for amounts ranging from $ 50 to 250 dollars », indicating« We are talking about about five thousand electoral observers for each candidate, and thus millions of dollars ».

Change «Political Demo»

In the meantime, warned the deputy of Diyala province Raad Dahlaki, which he described «schemes» aimed at undermining the security of the province and deprive some of its components from participating in the upcoming elections, calling on the Electoral Commission to open electoral centers so that internally displaced in Diyala to participate in the elections.
He said in a statement: "We are surprised that the opening of polling stations for internally displaced people in the province of Diyala to cast their votes to choose who represents them in real, according to their natural rights as Iraqi citizens wishing to participate in the next electoral process, although they have the electoral card but can not reach their areas for reasons beyond Which indicates that there are parties do not want to share this segment to hide the real proportions of the components of this province and this is intended to change the demographic political ».
He added that «there are also seeking to undermine security and stability in the province of Diyala, otherwise it is explained that the transfer of the police chief of Diyala at this time, especially as the province is preparing to conduct parliamentary elections, pointing out that« these measures indicate that there is planning to be pressure On some of the components of Diyala not to participate in the elections, either by blocking the participation of displaced or by disrupting security in this province through the transfer of the police chief of the province ».
"We call on the Electoral Commission to open electoral centers so that IDPs in Diyala province can participate in the upcoming elections. We also demand that the commander-in-chief of the armed forces stop the transfer of Diyala police chief and not allow anyone to tamper with the security of the province," he said. The province of Diyala first and deprive some of its components from participating in the next elections as a constitutional entitlement second ».
In late March, the Independent High Electoral Commission confirmed the withdrawal of the ratification of any candidate or party officially prove the receipt of the voter card illegally, adding that it will punish any employee of the Commission to the dismissal in the event of proven cooperation with any party to obtain the cards through the sale and purchase .
In parallel, the secretariat of Baghdad published the electoral campaign regulations prepared in coordination with the Electoral Commission, while confirming that they are more stringent than the previous times, and warned political entities against violating them.
"The regulations governing election campaigns are stricter to prevent distortion of the city's aesthetics, especially historical, religious and religious sites," she said in a statement.
According to the statement, the Secretariat banned the pasting of posters and posters of candidates on historic and religious buildings, bridges, bridges, facades of government buildings, schools and hospitals.

Information / Baghdad ..

The Kurdistan Democratic Party, headed by Massoud Barzani, denied on Wednesday that there were "prior understandings" in support of Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi for a second term, accusing some Kurdish parties of promoting the news with the aim of politicization.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The United States does not support a particular candidate in the upcoming Iraqi elections, State Department spokeswoman Heather Naort said, noting that her country would work with any candidate chosen by Iraqis.

Asked whether Washington would support a candidate to win the Iraqi government, the media quoted Nawarat as saying in a television interview on Tuesday evening that the United States does not support a particular candidate in the upcoming elections and when asked if this candidate is pro-Iranian "We have confidence in the Iraqi people and I think the Iraqi people will also have confidence in themselves," she said.

On the other hand, a spokeswoman for the US State Department, said that 'Washington wants to see other countries do more work either in Syria or Iraq or other countries', in commenting on the reports on the request of the United States from Arab countries to send troops to Syria.

Asked if Washington wanted the Gulf states to pay for rebuilding Syria, supporting the US presence or sending troops, she said: "I do not want to comment on specific details. We have many diplomatic talks every day. In general, we would like to see other countries do more work and contribute to the overall cost. '

The Wall Street Journal quoted US officials as saying yesterday that Washington was seeking to form an Arab military force to replace US forces in Syria after a humiliating defeat.
