political shake-up in the Dawa Party .. Abadi and Maliki are running on two separate lists

 November 20, 2017 - 4:50 Number of readings:

BAGHDAD - Sources close to the ruling party "Islamic Call" in Iraq, he will contest the next parliamentary elections on two separate lists, leading the first leader of the party leader Haider Abadi, while the second is headed by the Secretary-General of the party Vice President Nuri al-Maliki.

She pointed out that what was a few months ago, not exceeding the limits of speculation, on the division of the party into two wings competing in the next general elections, «has become a confirmed fact, in the light of the unwillingness of Maliki and Abadi to enter into a unified electoral alliance».

The sources pointed out that senior leaders of the «Dawa» and «coalition rule of law», sought under the pressure to arrange the situation of the party to participate in the general elections scheduled mid-May, to «bridge the gap» between Abadi and Maliki, but the parties « Adhering to their desire to run on two different lists. "

One source did not rule out that the parties would resort to a parliamentary alliance after the elections, but that also depends on the coalition of each party to take parliamentary seats in the next session.

As it will depend on the «nature of alliances each party», as the parties that will be allied with Abadi may intersect with the groups allied with al-Maliki, which may complicate matters between them.

Ebadi is determined to form an electoral list called "Liberation and Construction". Sources close to the party say his future depends on the outcome of the power struggle between Maliki and Abadi. And believes that the leadership of the current al-Maliki «threatened to retreat under the growing popularity of the popular Abadi, after the military victories achieved by the« dashing »and the decisive position taken on the referendum in the Kurdistan region and disputed areas, and restore the control of the federal government on the province of Kirkuk, in the whole is in the interest of Abadi influence within the party.

But these circles do not reduce Maliki's chances of dominating the party as a result of the network of interests he woven with many of his members during his premiership between 2006 and 2014, and many party cadres still owe him allegiance.

However, based on the history of the continuing schism in the ranks of the Da'wa, observers see that the party is "facing a major political upheaval," stemming from the choice of its two poles (Abadi and Maliki) to enter two electoral lists, which implies "dividing the party into two competing wings, And perhaps later rivals. "

The party's former spokesman, Ibrahim al-Jaafari, was transformed into a rival once it split and established the "reformist trend" in 2005. The period of dissent in the party dates back to the "decision to delete" the right of the cleric Kazem Haeri. A legal reference to the party represented by Haeri.

Subsequent splits followed the emergence of the "Basra Group" in the 1990s, and then the Dawa Party - the Organization of Iraq. Years ago, a group split from this party and established the Dawa Party - the Organization of the Interior.

It is noteworthy that «Dawa Party» dominated the prime minister since 2005 when he took the former leader Ibrahim al-Jaafari as prime minister for one year, and then took al-Maliki for two consecutive terms, before Abadi succeeded in 2014.

Abadi has banned militia leaders from standing in next year's elections, as the Iraqi prime minister attempts to limit the power of paramilitary forces.

Iraq militia leaders will not be allowed to stand in next year's provincial and national elections, Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi said this weekend.

His comments come amid fears of the growing power and influence of Iran and paramilitary forces in Iraq, following the defeat of the Islamic State group.

In an attempt to limit their influence in national politics, Abadi has said militia leaders must lay down their arms and enter civilian life if they wish to stand in elections.

"There must be a clear separation between political and armed groups," the prime minister warned on the weekend.

"It's vital that people choose the politicians that they want... The government's anti-corruption campaign requires unity of all Iraqis in order to combat this issue, just like our defeat against IS."

Abadi came to power in 2014, promising to rein in the rampant corruption that thrived under his predecessor Nouri al-Maliki.

With little progress made in stamping out graft, Iraqis took to the streets to protest against frequent power cuts.

These died down with the Iraqi army's offensive against IS, which relied on the crucial support of Shia militias, who joined forces under the umbrella formation the Iranian-backed Popular Mobilisation Forces or Hashd al-Shaabi.

Their lead role in the battles against IS and status as a quasi-independent army force has given Tehran an ever stronger role in the country.

Iraq's political leadership hope next May's elections will bring some harmony to the country and embolden the civilian government.

Iraq's last parliamentary elections were held in April 2014, which saw Maliki's Shia-dominated party win and form a coalition with smaller parties.

Abadi will have to deal with security issues, continued corruption, internal power feuds, and the issue of Iraqi-Kurdistan's independence bid as he prepares for the elections slated for 12 May.

  • yota691 changed the title to Nujaifi and Jabouri asked Washington to postpone the elections for a year

Nujaifi and Jabouri asked Washington to postpone the elections for a year

 Baghdad / Mohammed Sabah

Sunni parties confirmed that the visit of Salim al-Jubouri and Osama Najafi to Washington focused on persuading the US administration to postpone the elections for one year. The parties revealed that the speaker of parliament and Vice President of the Republic made their demand to postpone the elections in exchange for guaranteeing an American presence in the Sunni provinces. While the Sunni parties recognize the declining rate of modernization of the electoral register in the Sunni areas, the Nujaifi and Jibouri talks in Washington attributed their popularity to declining in the Sunni street and that the timely elections are now "political suicide."

The President of the House of Representatives and Vice President of the Republic have visited the United States of America individually over the past weeks arranged by public relations companies arranged for them to meet with American officials and lectures in research centers.
The Sunni bloc demands the return of 2 million displaced in return for participating in the parliamentary elections scheduled for mid-May, "acknowledging that it has approached international parties such as the United Nations and the United States to postpone the elections in the Western provinces
On September 28, To the United Nations Mission in Iraq (UNAMI) calls for postponement of the elections until further notice, citing the delay in the reconstruction of the western provinces, and the return of all displaced persons to their areas.
The MP from the coalition of forces Talal al-Zobaie that "one of the most important axes addressed by the visits Jubouri and Nujaifi to Washington is the file of postponement of the upcoming elections, and the return of displaced people and the stability of the cities seized by a supporter."
"The information leaked from these visits indicates that Washington is pushing political partners to postpone the elections," MP al-Zobaie told Al-Mada. "Nujaifi and al-Jabouri are asking Washington to postpone the elections for one year or more.
The Sunni MP confirms the existence of near-agreement between the US side with the Sunni parties that visited Washington recently to postpone the elections. But pointed out the difficulty of achieving this, since the paragraphs of the Constitution do not allow postponement of the elections.
"The postponement of the elections is not a requirement for the Sunni component, as much as it is the demand of some figures," he said. On the question of whether the postponement scenario is presented against the establishment of permanent American military bases, al-Zobaie denies that there is a clear program for Washington on this issue. "But there is talk of American bases in Habbaniyah and a base in Ayn al-Assad in Anbar and a country in Salah al-Din and Qayara in Nineveh province."
A member of the Union of Forces that there is "leaked information from the talks conducted by Jubouri and Nujaifi in Washington."
"This information is still uncertain and needs American confirmation to clarify its plans to establish US bases in these areas," he said.
The MP Talal Zubi that "one of the goals of these visits is to seek leadership of the component of the Sunni and falls within the door of competition between Najafi and Jabouri."
A few days after the visit of al-Jubouri to Washington, which followed Nujaifi's visit, the leadership of the Alliance of Forces held a meeting discussing the political and security issues that concern the Iraqi issue, foremost of which is the file of the upcoming elections and the reconstruction of liberated cities.
"This meeting discussed the postponement of the elections, the return of displaced people and the situation of Iraq in a post-Saddam era," said MP Raad al-Dahlaki, a leader of the Alliance of Forces. He stressed that "the elections were one of the most focused files of the meeting."
"Many blocks speak in the backstage of something different and contrary to what they are talking about in the media in terms of the election file," said Dahlaki, a member of the Diyala Our Identity bloc led by parliament speaker Salim al-Jubouri. And confirms that most of the blocs support the postponement of the elections in May.
The deputy of Diyala to "the intention of the Union of Iraqi forces to send letters to all ambassadors of States in Baghdad, explaining the conditions of citizens and serious concerns of the upcoming elections on schedule and to work to postpone."
And on the constitutional cover on which the Sunni forces to postpone the elections, says Dahlaki that "the constitution set the parliamentary session by four calendar years, but did not specify the life of the government." He expressed his belief that "there is a legal exit permitting the government to carry out executive and legislative tasks, like the previous government of Iyad Allawi." The MP stressed Diyala that "the postponement of the elections was put on the table in the discussion of the visit by Nujaifi and Jabouri to Washington," and spoke of "almost acceptable" by the US administration to the idea of postponement of the elections.
He denied that the possession of information on the discussion of the leaders of the year on military bases with the US side, he stressed that "the presence of US bases on Iraqi territory is subject to the approval of the government."
In turn, deputy MP for Nineveh Abdulrahman Al-Loizi on the visit Nujaifi and Jabouri to Washington, and says (to the extent) that "the characters described as Sunni leaders feel the decline in popularity following the displacement and displacement that hit the Sunni provinces, which forced them to consider postponing the elections by calling the outside worker and pressure On the government and political allies. "
"These leaders now believe that holding the parliamentary elections on time is a political suicide at the moment," he said. "They are trying to encapsulate the election issue and link it to the non-return of the displaced as a pretext for postponing the ballot to new dates."
The MP for Nineveh justified by the Sunni forces to postpone the elections that it "hide behind a real crisis is almost personal, which is more related to the component." "Salim al-Jubouri, Usama al-Nujaifi and some other Sunni leaders are leading a campaign whose slogan is" Sunnis are displaced and did not register their voters "with the aim of postponing the elections. "I do not deny the low turnout of people in the western regions to update the voter register, which did not exceed the percentage in Nineveh 5%." It is likely that the trip of Najafi and Jibouri to Washington "in order to call the external factor and international pressure on the government and political allies." "We have criticized the popular crowd implicitly and talked about postponing the elections and hinted at a Sunni welcome to the presence of the Americans," he said.
The chairman of the Committee on Parliamentary Affairs describes al-Jubouri's comments in Washington as "strange and unusual", noting that "on the one hand it is a compliment to the United States of America and on the one hand it represents a coup d'état." "The main objective of this visit is to postpone the elections."
"The Jubouri talk of Sunni acceptance of an American presence implies a commitment or commitment to an American presence in Sunni areas, whether in the form of bases or otherwise," al-Loisi said. He did not rule out that the statements came against the backdrop of an agreement on the establishment of US bases in the Sunni provinces at the very least.

My vote goes to Abadi.

He is doing an outstanding job as PM.

Go Abadi

Go RV

Go reelection

Go Success

For all we know, Abadi could be the biggest thief of them all. They pass half laws and then let them sit, never really getting anything of importance passed. And maybe anything that is passed is only to protect their own asses. Now before you go off half cocked and blow everything out of proportion, think about it. Are we any closer than we were a year ago? Not really.. We are a long way from the end that we are hopeing for. Got to remember that they are rebuilding for scratch. It took ten years to destroy Iraq, it will take twice as long to rebuild.
