Hopefully this envoy can accomplish something because I just heard on NPR that there is now heavy fighting between the two sides.

I continue to be hopeful...perhaps the outright fighting between the two parties is what it’s going to take to get them to the bargaining table, pass the HCL and RV their currency!

As always, thanks for all of your hard work, Yota!

Kurdistan welcomes the dialogue with Baghdad within the framework of the Constitution and without preconditions

Also welcomed the position of the US State Department ...

Kurdistan welcomes the dialogue with Baghdad within the framework of the Constitution and without preconditions

The Kurdistan Regional Government welcomed a statement by the US State Department calling for dialogue between Erbil and Baghdad.

The provincial government said in a statement that it also welcomed "the immediate cessation of clashes between the Peshmerga forces and Iraqi forces in the disputed areas and express their consent to be the cessation of clashes and deterioration of the situation in coordination with Iraqi forces and coalition forces."

"The Kurdistan Regional Government, in order to solve the problems, welcomes the dialogue with Baghdad as soon as possible within the framework of the constitution and without any preconditions," the statement said.

The popular militia, which uses US weapons and has direct Iranian support, has taken control of most of the Kurdish areas outside the province's administration or called the "disputed" in an attack that began last week and is still ongoing and triggered a wave of displacement.

The popular crowd and Iraqi forces launched a crackdown on Kirkuk and other areas after last month's referendum on independence and won 92.73 of their votes for independence from Iraq.

Kurdish leaders say attacks by Baghdad and sanctions against Kurdistan are proof that living with Iraq is impossible.

The US State Department said yesterday that the "restoration of federal authority" in the disputed areas does not change the status of those areas, and indicated that it is concerned about the escalation of confrontations between the popular crowd and Peshmerga north of Kirkuk.

"Re-asserting the federal authority over the disputed territories in no way changes its status ... it remains in dispute until its status is resolved under the Iraqi constitution," the foreign ministry said in a statement.

The ministry pointed out that "until the parties reach a solution, we urge them to coordinate the full security and administration of these areas To this end, all parties must engage in dialogue now on the basis of the Iraqi Constitution, as presented by Iraqi Prime Minister Haider Abadi and announced the Kurdistan Regional Government Acceptance of the invitation ".

In its statement, the foreign ministry called on the Baghdad government to avoid clashes with the Peshmerga and to limit the movement of "federal forces" in the disputed areas and coordinate with the Kurdistan Regional Government.

She said Washington was concerned about reports of violent clashes around Alton Kobri between Kirkuk and Erbil, capital of Kurdistan.
