The first Saudi airline to fly to Iraq since 1990

Air said [people] Saudi Arabia, said Wednesday that it will launch flights to Iraq to become the first Saudi airline to do so in more than 25 years.
The airline said in a statement on its website "flights from major airports in the Kingdom will start to a number of Iraqi cities in the coming weeks." 
"This is a historic moment for us in Nas Konna, the first Saudi airline to land on the brotherly land of Iraq after this long interruption," said Bandar al-Muhanna, chief executive officer of Nas. 
Flights between Saudi Arabia and Iraq have been cut off since the former regime invaded Kuwait in 1990. 
In August, Iraq and Saudi Arabia said they planned to open the Arar border crossing to trade for the first time since 1990. 
The announcement came a day after the Saudi cabinet decided to set up a joint trade committee with Iraq.

Minister of Transport Kazem al-Hamami announced on Tuesday that the first Saudi civil aircraft will land at Baghdad International Airport.

The Ministry of Transport said in a press statement received by "Economy News" that "the Minister of Transport Kazem Vajan al-Yamami met today with the Ambassador of Saudi Arabia in Iraq Abdul Aziz al-Shammari to discuss the promotion of bilateral relations between the two countries in the field of transport."

According to the statement, Hamami said that "in the framework of joint cooperation between Iraq and Saudi Arabia was signed a memorandum of understanding between the two parties to regulate air transport services and provide all ground services to the aircraft of the Kingdom and vice versa," stressing that "Iraq seeks to open up to all countries of the world, That "there are common interests with the Saudi brothers and we are in the process of opening new horizons for cooperation in various areas of transport."

"It was agreed to fly from Saudi Arabia airports to Iraqi airports," the transport minister said, adding that "Wednesday will see the landing of the aircraft of the (NAS) Saudi Arabia at Baghdad International Airport, followed by another plane of Saudi ownership."

In parallel, the Saudi side expressed its readiness to provide all service facilities through its airports as well as agreed on scheduled and regular flights to Iraqi Airways to Jeddah, Madinah and Dammam airports.

announced that Saudi Arabian Airlines on Sunday that flights between Saudi Arabia and Iraq will be launched on October now 30 , with two flights each day, as promised "major facilities" for the Iraqi passengers. 

"The flights between the Kingdom and Iraq will start on October 30th with two flights per day," said Al-Jasser, the airline's chief executive. 

"The expansion will be in the Iraqi market during the next phase and new directions."

 

 

 

 


Al-Jasser pointed out that "Saudi Airways enjoys great advantages and facilities to be offered to the Iraqi traveler."

Al-Ani said flights between the Kingdom and Iraq would reach 140 flights per month, including seven cargo flights, starting next Monday.
Al-Ani confirmed the readiness of six Iraqi airports to receive Saudi aircraft, which will be launched from four airports from the Kingdom.
Al-Ani said that the kingdom currently has two consulates in Iraq, one of which is open in Erbil and another that the kingdom has requested to reopen in Basra, which was open and closed in 1990, leaving only administrative procedures to open soon.
Saudi Arabia has suspended flights to Iraq for nearly three decades for political reasons.

Saudi state-owned airline Saudi Arabia announced it would begin regular flights to Iraq on Monday after a 27-year hiatus, the state news agency SPA said.

Saleh bin Nasser al-Jasser, general manager of the company, will accompany reporters and passengers on the first flight leaving Jeddah to Baghdad, the agency said.

Flights between Saudi Arabia and Iraq have been suspended since 1990.

Saudi Airlines has prepared a ceremony to celebrate the occasion. Guests will be served on a special service platform and each guest will be given a travel document on the inaugural flight after official re-operation and regular flights of the national carrier between the Kingdom and Iraq.
