tigergorzow
Abadi’s decisions remind of those taken by Ba’ath Party – Kurdistan PM September 25 2017 05:25 PM Nechirvan Barzani Kurdistan Region’s Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani described on Monday the decision made by Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi as a collective punishment that reminds of decisions taken by Ba’ath Party’s Revolutionary Command Council. Barzani’s statements come against the backdrop of decisions made by the federal government, which asked Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) to hand over international border areas and airports as a response to region’s insistence on holding the referendum. In a press conference held after Barzani had cast his ballot, Kurdistan’s prime minister said that at a time the region is housing millions of displaced persons and providing them with basic needs; it faces such a collective punishment. tigergorzow
Iraqi MPs Debate Further Measures Against Kurdistan Basnews English 25/09/2017 - 14:19 Kurdistan ERBIL — The Iraqi House of Representatives will voice its final stance with regards to the referendum on independence of the Kurdistan Region, with the possibility of a vote of withdrawing confidence from the Iraqi President Fuad Masum. Over 180 MPs have attended the session to exchange views and finalize 12 subjects on the agenda of the meeting, above all the independence plebiscite in Kurdistan. The referendum has already begun across Kurdistan and the disputed areas between Erbil and Baghdad. Iraqi parliament speaker, Salim al-Jobouri, has already assigned the related committees of legal, interior and foreign affairs to finalize the measures against Kurdistan due to its referendum, so that they are finalized in the session. A number of lawmakers have also staged a signature campaign to withdraw confidence from the Kurdish-born Iraqi president, Masum. According to some reports, over 100 MPs have signed to oust Masum and the rest of senior Kurdish officials in Baghdad. Lawmakers from the Kurdistan Region boycotted the sessions about two weeks ago when the legislative body recognized the vote in Kurdistan as “illegitimate” and authorized Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi to take any necessary measures to “protect the territorial integrity of Iraq.” In a series of tweets last night in response to Kurdistan’s determination to run the plebiscite, Abadi ordered the semi-autonomous region to hand over its airports and border entries to Baghdad. After casting his vote on Monday, Kurdistan PM Nechirvan Barzani described Abadi’s orders as a “collective punishment” against the people of Kurdistan, restating that Kurdistan will not resort to violence at any rate. Despite the escalating tensions, the people of Kurdistan celebrate the date as the “independence day.” http://www.basnews.com/index.php/en/news/kurdistan/380848

tigergorzow
World’s Yezidi Leader Votes to Kurdistan Referendum Basnews English 25/09/2017 - 14:05 Kurdistan ERBIL — Mir Tahsin Bag, the leader of Yezidis across Kurdistan and the world, casted his vote in the independence referendum of the Kurdistan Region on Monday. Early today Mir Tahsin Bag attended a polling station in the town of Shekhan, Duhok province, and casted his vote. The leader of the ethno-religious community had earlier called on the Yezidi believers to participate in the plebiscite and vote in favor of independence for Kurdistan. Disappointed with Baghdad’s sympathy following the extensive extermination campaigns under Iraqi government’s auspices, the Kurdish Yezidi people hope to open a new chapter in the coming independent Kurdistan. Mir Tahsin Bag stated that they do not wish to be regarded as “third-class” citizens in Iraq anymore. Thousands of electorates across the Kurdistan Region and the disputed areas between Erbil and Baghdad have already voted in the independence referendum. It seems that the threats by Baghdad and the neighboring countries have not affected the morale and enthusiasm of the voters, who head to the polling stations in Kurdish clothing and mark the day as a major national celebration. http://www.basnews.com/index.php/en/news/kurdistan/380840
