Disturbing claim against the Red Cross

The original youtube video about this has almost 6 million views.  Apparently, in Texas when donations were brought in by the truckload and left with churches, the Red Cross confiscated the donations and resold some of them, then threw out the rest.  If this is true, it's outrageous.  Anyone in Texas know more about this?

Don't Give Your Hurricane Donations to the American Red Cross
Establishment charities have criminal history of stealing disaster funds

As the aftermath of hurricane Katrina continues to wreak mayhem and havoc amid reports of mass looting, shooting at rescue helicopters, rapes and murders, establishment media organs are promoting the Red Cross as a worthy organization to give donations to.

The biggest website in the world, Yahoo.com, displays a Red Cross donation link prominently on its front page.

Every time there is a major catastrophe the Red Cross and similar organizations like United Way are given all the media attention while other charities are left in the shadows. This is not to say that the vast majority of Red Cross workers are not decent people who simply want to help those in need.

But what the media fails consistently to remember in their promotion of the organization is that the American Red Cross have been caught time and time again withholding money in the wake of horrible disasters that require immediate release of funds.

The Red Cross, under the Liberty Fund, collected $564 million in donations after 9/11. Months after the event, the Red Cross had distributed only $154 million. The Red Cross' explanation for keeping the majority of the money was that it would be used to help 'fight the war on terror'. To the victims, this meant that the money was going towards bombing broken backed third world countries like Afghanistan and setting up surveillance cameras and expanding the police state in US cities, and not towards helping them rebuild their lives.

 

Then Red Cross President Dr. Bernadine Healy arrogantly responded when questioned about the withholding of funds by stating, "The Liberty Fund is a war fund. It has evolved into a war fund."

Despite the family members of victims of 9/11 complaining bitterly to a House Energy and Commerce Committee's oversight panel, the issue seemed to be brushed under the carpet and the mud didn't stick.

The Red Cross' scandalous activities reach back far before 9/11.

After the devastating San Francisco earthquake in 1989, the Red Cross passed on only $10 million of the $50 million that had been raised, and banked the rest.

 

Similar donations after the Oklahoma City bombing in 1995 and the Red River flooding in 1997 were also greedily withheld.

Insight Magazine reported,

“The first days after the bombing,” says one family member, “people from all over the country were sending checks in lieu of flowers and we were getting a lot of checks and cash every day — hundreds, even thousands, of dollars. Then the Red Cross went down to the post office and made arrangements to collect the mail and they would deliver it to us in bulk. All the mail had been opened, and from that point on there never was a dime, even in letters that said money was enclosed.”

The Red Cross has been caught engaging in rampant corruption on an all too regular basis.

3,000 people died after thousands of Canadians were infected with HIV and hepatitis C from tainted blood supplies.The Canadian Red Cross pleaded guilty to the charges earlier this year after they had been directly caught knowlingly shipping out the infected blood.

Smaller charities that were involved with the 2004 Tsunami relief project went public to say that large charities like Red Cross and United Way were engaged in secret backroom negotiations with each other that meant a large portion of the donation money was purposefully restricted from reaching the most needy areas affected by the disaster.

The history is clear, the Red Cross and other large so-called charities are in actual fact front group collection agencies for the military industrial complex.

Many informed historians have even alleged that the Red Cross was used as a Skull and Bones cover to overthrow The Russian Czar and pave the way for the rise of the Bolsheviks.

Do not give any money to the Red Cross unless you support the expansion of empire abroad and police state at home. Find a smaller trustworthy organization in the local area of New Orleans and make your donation to them.

Lawsuits for the Cure: From the Archives

The following post was originally posted on December 9, 2010.  Almost 2 years ago.  In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, I've pulled this post from the archives to share with you.  We still have a great deal of work to do - the Pink Ribbon has fractured the breast cancer community.  It's time to work as a collaborative community, ditch the cause marketing campaigns, and refocus on our energies on the real meaning of the pink ribbon: Hope.

As a breast cancer survivor, nothing's more infuriating than reading a story on how the Susan G. Komen Foundation actively pursues lawsuits against smaller foundations and individuals using the term "for the cure" in events or promotional materials. "Kites for the Cure". "Dancing for the Cure," "Dog Parade for the Cure." Komen's got them on their radar. Honestly, don't we ALL have better things to do... like find a CURE for cancer instead of chasing after small time charities?

The point that I take exception with in all these articles is how Komen defends these lawsuits. Komen's lawyers state that: "The charity views the lawsuits as responsible stewardship of our donor's funds.” Oh really? I haven't donated to Komen in a long time. However, if I was to donate again, I'd certainly hope that my funds were directed to more research, not lawsuits. That got me thinking about the total cost of the lawsuits that Komen's currently involved in. I dug a little deeper and pulled out Komen's annual report from 2009 [pdf]. I was hoping to find a line item in their annual report called "lawsuits" or "lawyer's fees". No such luck. However, I found some other interesting points.

Here's a quick review for 2009:

Komen took in $331,328,414 in donations and revenues.
Komen's General Administration costs, in 2009, were $37,148,000.
Their total fundraising costs across all programs were $29,496,000.

In the same year, the total amount given out, or allocated to:

• Research was $70,147,000
• Educational programs were $135,529,000
• Screening was $39,653,000, and
• Treatment assistance was $22,330,000.

Let's stop right here for a moment and reflect.

A organization that is actively pursuing other small charities over the use of the term "for the cure" does NOT spend the majority of their own funds towards RESEARCH FOR A CURE.

In 2009, according to Komen's Audited Financial Statements[links to PDF], the organization awarded $59,179,051 in research grants out of the total $70,147,000 that makes up the reseach figure. The remaining amount went to fees, travel, salaries, and other costs of business.

So, out of the $331,328,414 raised by public support and revenues, only $59,179,051 went to RESEARCH FOR A CURE. Only 17% of the donations received and revenue earned by Komen in 2009 went to "finding a cure." I find it very hard to believe that Komen's lawyers can justify their lawsuits by claiming they are acting as stewards for their donors' monies. For Komen to lay claim to the term "for the cure" or any variation of "the cure," shouldn't they need to show a greater effort towards funding the research required to find "THE CURE?"

135 million dollars for educational programs will certainly help educate men and women about breast cancer and treatment options, but will not help "cure" cancer.

39 million dollars for screening programs will certainly help men and women receive valuable services and help detect cancers much sooner, but will not help "cure" cancer.

22 million dollars for treatment assistance will certainly help many men and women receive badly needed treatment, medication, surgeries, and support, but will not help "cure" cancer.

Komen needs to reevaluate its mission and branding to be more in line with "curing cancer." It needs to establish its core functions to promote and facilitate efforts "for the cure" if they want to continue to chase down small charities that dare to use that phrase. For the cure, not for the lawsuits.

B/A I have to agree with you on the Susan Komen organization.  For years this group has done a gazillion fund raising events AND STILL NO CURE!!!

Not only that, some of their sponsors are involved with the Planned Parenthood group.  What a bunch of crock, steal the money that could of otherwise help individuals, or give to groups that murder babies.  This world will fall because of their immortality principles.

An interesting back story on this is that in the original mission of the Susan Komen organization, there was more effort in actually doing that. Prevention and healing were high priorities. That mission was put on the back burner when non profit consultants convinced the organization that what really sells is a good vs evil scenario. So the emphasis changed from finding a cure to fighting breast cancer. It created a fundamental conflict of interest. The end result is that more women actually suffer with breast cancer because of the PR. Viable prevention strategies are undermined to sustain the life of the organization.  Healthcare - 0 , Profits - 1
