Thanks Burt - brings back lots of memories from the sixties.  Back then we didn't call it hitchhiking, we called it 'thumbing'.

We'd ditch school and 'thumb' to the beach or up to Hollywood.

During my 'yoot' I've 'thumbed' all over the US, hopped freights and even rode a horse from S.Carolina to Jackson Miss.

I always met Bohemian and Blue Collar types who'd picked us up and had great stories of their own.

I never felt in danger, although I had to do some fast talkin' in a small cowboy beer bar in rural Idaho once:unsure:
