Donziman
Me thinks Abadi is sick of the Govenor of Kirkuk raising kurdish flags and basicly thumbing his nose at the iraqi GOI
Donziman
Furthermore, With the separation vote looming on the 25th Abadi doesn't want the Kurds stealing Kirkuk and the oil fields that produce badly needed revenue.

PM Abadi is taking measures to ensure Kirkuk is under GOI control IMHO. This Governor is corrupt and out of control and needs to be held accountable sooner than later. 3n1
maybe Abadi needs to activate article 140 which settles the disputed areas that kirkuk is associated with which baghdad and kurdistan agreed to institute but the GOI never has, the Kurds will not get screwed nor should they any more .

tigergorzow
Abadi declares state of emergency in Kirkuk September 17 2017 01:31 PM Breaking Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi declared the state of emergency in Kirkuk governorate and appointed General Nasser al-Ghanam as its new military governor. This comes ahead of Kurdistan's independence referendum, as the autonomous region planned to include it in the referendum process. Kurdistan will hold this referendum on 25th of September after its parliament approved it. http://www.thebaghdadpost.com/en/story/17038/Abadi-declares-state-of-emergency-in-Kirkuk
3n1
C'mon Abadi, activate article 140 no need for some hyped up state of military emergency does he really want a civil war with the Peshmerga , so the goi will resort to force instead of abiding to agreements it has made and now we know as the kurds have always known the real reason 140 will never see the light of day is because kirkuk will fall under kurdistan's jurisdiction and although abadi has done much better than maliki, baghdad ( goi ) still refuses to live in peace with all people of iraq and to prosper # shaking head .. we wait

skeetdog
Thanks Tigergorzow....Art. 140 along with why Kurdistan can't just jump up and demand their own part of Iraq is written in the Iraqi Constitution that the territory the Kurds are wanting to withdraw from...Kurdistan has the right to do what they're doing...although if it is feasible, it would take decades of preparations for Kurdistan to get the needed support from international countries for this to be even entertained as a threat to anything...Abadi is doing only what he's been forced to do...that's to take the necessary legal steps to protect the sovereignty of Iraq as a whole...The Kurds have been given the short end of the stick their entire existence dealing with one then another Iraqi leader...Abadi is the first PM that has ever shown a respectful attitude toward the Kurdish people...True he just put the boot to the governor of Kirkuk...But then again the act performed was an act of ''Treason'' imho...
