"The task of reform in the area of retirement is one of the most difficult areas of reform in any country. This requires a long-term process in light of the political and technical challenges. Iraq has taken the first and most important step in its history," the secretariat said in a statement. This reform was issued when the unified retirement law No. 27 of 2006 amended the basis for the integration of the retirement scheme in the public and private sectors.
"Despite the significant challenges faced by Iraq, there has been continued pressure to move to the system of allocated benefits that effectively affect the financial sustainability of the pension system as well as the vagaries of the political environment and difficult security conditions as Iraq faces a major challenge in moving towards a pension system consistent with Good international practices, taking into consideration the social preferences, the specific circumstances of Iraq and what has been achieved and what path it will take in the medium and long term to ensure the aging of its entire population. "

"Private sector pensions will depend on the percentage of monthly contributions for the same worker, but in any case salaries will not be below the poverty line minimum of $ 2.5 per day," he said.

On the future plans and strategies to support the private sector, he explained that "the private sector strategy 2018-2022, aims to raise the volume of investment in the private sector from 34 percent now to 40 percent, with government investment constituting 60 percent."

Iraq, through the draft new social insurance law, seeks to establish a pension fund working in the private sector and equalize with retirees of employees (public sector).
