The Supreme Judicial Council announced on Tuesday that the Court of Integrity has decided to refer the Director General of Iraqi Airways, currently arrested to the crimes of integrity on charges of bribery.

"The Integrity Court has considered the case of the director general of Iraqi Airways, who is accused of cases of bribery and administrative irregularities," the spokesman of the council, Judge Abdul Sattar Birqdar, said in a statement received by Mawazine News.

"The court decided to refer the accused to the crimes of integrity after the completion of the investigation."

The judge said that "he will be tried in accordance with Article 310 of the Penal Code," pointing out that "the accused is currently detained and not released as promoted in the media."

The Integrity Commission announced on Thursday that the Criminal Court for Integrity Issues has issued a two-year prison sentence against the General Manager of Iraqi Airways.

"The Criminal Court for Integrity Issues issued a two-year sentence for the general manager of Iraqi Airways, based on the provisions of Article 310 of the Penal Code," the agency said in a statement received by Mawazine News.

"The accused will be accompanied by the criminal evidence seized to the investigating judge competent to hear cases of integrity, which decided to refer the case to the competent criminal court for the purpose of completing the legal proceedings."

He pointed out that "the decision of the sentence against the convicted gave the right to the affected party to establish a civil lawsuit to claim compensation when the decision to obtain the degree of determinism."

"Among the provisions of Article 310 of the Iraqi Penal Code is that anyone who gives, presents, offers or promises to give to an employee or a public service officer anything from what is stipulated in Article (308) is counted as Rashaya, and punish the bribe and mediator of the penalty prescribed by law For the rice. "

ERBIL — Iraqi court has issued 26 prison sentences to high-ranking Iraqi officials in a push to eliminate corruption and fraud in the country.

On Wednesday, the Prime Minister of Iraq, Haider al-Abadi, announced on his Twitter account that his government has taken crucial steps to stop corruption in the country, and has already arrested and sentenced a number of former and current Iraqi officials.

The sentences reportedly range from six to fifteen years, Iraqi News reported.

Among the sentenced officials is the Director of Transparency and Corruption Prevention in the Integrity Commission, Abdel Ilah Khadim al-Aboodi, who was given a 15-years sentence. Also Bruska Noori Aweys, former Defense Ministry Secretary General, sentenced to 14 years in prison. Former Defense Minister, Hazim al-Shalan, who was sentenced to 13 years in prison and Mohsin Shlash, former Minister of Electricity, sentenced to 7 years in jail.

The General Manager of the Department of Finance, Abdel Amor Baker Khathim, was also among the people, who received a sentence of 15 years. The previous minister of agriculture, Sawsan Al Sharifi, was also convicted and sentenced to 5 years in prison, while former transport director general Faisal Naji Malo was jailed for 7 years.

Baghdad launched a series of investigations into alleged corruption schemes within the Iraqi government, after Iraq was ranked 166th out of 176 countries in the Transparency International's Corruption Index.
