One thing is for sure - it's going to take a lot of time. money and effort to install and develop a fiiber optic network correctly that Iraq needs - and deserves,- especially if any substantial part of it is being installed underground. However, I know a great way for Iraq to get the proceeds they need to do the job right!   Go RV!!!!

I hear you, Presence!

This may be an older article that is being recycled. I suspect the optic cable implementation has been occurring in non ISIS held areas and is pretty far along with some areas potentially being complete. If I remember right, I remember seeing an article from about 1 1/2 year ago talking about the same thing. As few as six months ago, the east-west optic cable installation to support the Silk Road was presented for implementation in the news articles. However, being Iraq, they may just now be starting. If this is the case, hopefully anti corruption measures are in place to ensure full implementation and functionality at completion within the contract price(s).

Minister of Communications Hassan Kazem Al-Rashed confirmed that FTTH projects are the best solution to address the Internet problem in Iraq. 

Al-Rashed, during his meeting with the advanced staff of Horizon Sky Communications and Internet Company Limited and its authorized agent, Al-Mukhaz Company for General Trading and Internet Services, stressed the need to speed up the operation of telephone lines for citizens and take all the measures against the national network. And work to obtain official approvals for this and will be borne by the violators all legal consequences. 

Al-Rashed stressed that FTTH projects are the best solution to address the Internet problem in Iraq. During the meeting, they discussed the mechanisms followed by the company in implementing the projects entrusted to it and the percentage achieved for the operation of the FTTH network.
