US President Donald Trump held a top-level meeting at Pentagon to discuss anti-ISIS efforts in Iraq and Syria as well as Afghanistan, CNBC reported Friday.

After the meeting, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the secretaries of Defense and State briefed House members on the ISIS fight.

The battle being waged against ISIS is going "very well" and the terrorist group is "falling fast," Trump said.

The top-level national security meeting lasted about two hours and is believed to have covered everything from the ongoing war in Afghanistan to the battle against ISIS in Syria and Iraq.

Trump was upbeat on the fight against ISIS: "We're doing very well against ISIS. ISIS is falling fast. Very fast."

The list of people in the room for Thursday's meeting included Vice President Mike Pence, Defense Secretary James Mattis, Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Joseph Dunford, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin.

After the meeting, Mattis, Tillerson and Dunford traveled to Capitol Hill where they gave a classified briefing on the ISIS campaign to members of the House. It followed a similar briefing provided to the Senate on Wednesday.

US Deputy Secretary of State Joseph Bennington on Thursday expressed optimism about the future of Iraq in a post-Saddam era, while Iraq is "stronger than ever."

"Iraqis of all sects and races fought valiantly together for months to liberate the city from a real barbaric enemy," Bennington said. "There are many reasons for optimism about the future of Iraq."

"We have seen this in Tikrit, Ramadi, Falluja and, more recently, in eastern Mosul, communities are returning to life," he said. "Now Mosul University students are trying to get rid of the debris that is running the university to start their school year.

"The constant leadership of Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi and the empowerment of local officials have been a major reason for Iraq's success against Da'ash," the Deputy Foreign Minister said. "Giving regional and local leaders the power and resources to rebuild communities has built confidence across community lines and pave the way for long-term stability. the long".

"There are still fighting battles in Tal Afar, controlled by Daqash, Hawija and Qaim, with the passage of time and the continued support of the United States, we are confident that the Iraqis will liberate these areas," he said.

"Optimism about the future of Iraq should not keep us from the great challenges facing this country, as it needs to heal and overcome sectarian divisions," he said.

As for the Iraqi economy, the Deputy Secretary of State that "the Iraqi economy needs to reform after years of war and lower oil prices," stressing that "corruption discourages the initiative of the private sector."

"These problems can be addressed now that they have defeated a happy succession, Iraq has the second largest oil reserves in the world and has shown itself to be a flexible democratic state," Bennington said.

"With the continued support of the United States and the international community, Iraq is in a position to emerge in the post-conflict period as a stronger and more unified advocate than ever," concluded Bennington

Thank you current U.S. administration,  General Joseph for holding the Iraqi politicians by the necks and forcing them to govern instead of steal and plunder. Thank you for defending our Christian brothers and sisters who are a target of hatefull war crimes because they believe in Jesus Christ. The gates of hell shall never prevail thank you Lord for this promise coming to fruition over and over. Trump is "throttling the enemies of the west" yes, the west was hijacked by foreign interest groups including nazis, now that we are back no one can stop Trump and the people. Khandan -

US President Donald Trump said on Thursday that the terrorist organization was "falling very quickly."

"We are doing very well against a pro-Islamic organization," Trump said during a visit to the Pentagon building for a meeting on the country's military strategy.

The terrorist organization has suffered a series of defeats in recent times, most notably Mosul.

Asked about the possibility of sending more US troops to Afghanistan, Trump said "we will see," according to Sky News.

Earlier, Pentagon officials said Defense Secretary Jim Matisse was planning to send 4,000 additional troops to Afghanistan to take part in training Afghan forces.

There are currently 8,400 US troops in the NATO force, which numbers more than 13,000 troops.

Makes you wonder why they would need the Treasury Secretary at the Pentagon to discuss middle eastern strategies........

Mr. Planet,

That was my first thought as well.

Why would the Treasury Secretary be at the Pentagon for a top level meeting regarding ISIS?

Perhaps part of this meeting is strategizing on locating and when to freeze their funds as it would be tough to ascertain how much currency was transported out of the country.

The last thing they would want is to have those dirt bags suddenly become part of the Billionaires Club.

This may play into the timing of all this.

I might not have caught that if Thugs hadn't highlighted it.  I agree, they need to have an idea how much ISIS took from ALL of the banks in Mosul over three years, plus all that they robbed and taxed from the citizens over one third of Iraq.  They likely laundered a good portion of it.  Unlikely they withheld a huge stash (like us) hoping for the RV, but they still need to know, and have to factor it in their plans.
