Information / follow-up ...

Iraq entered the period of 'electoral silence' of the parliamentary elections as of 7 am on Friday, amid measures to deter violators to deprive the party or the candidate of the violator to participate in the elections.

All propaganda campaigns for candidates for parliamentary elections scheduled for Saturday were suspended after nearly a month of campaigning that began on April 14.

24 hours before the general ballot, the candidates entered the period of electoral silence, to give the full opportunity for voters to choose their candidates to reach the parliament, who in turn will form the government for four years to come. The Iraqi Media and Communications Commission urged all media on the need to adhere to the "electoral silence" It includes the return of programs and statements and interviews and everything that comes in the promotion of candidates directly or indirectly.

For its part, called the Independent Electoral Commission in Iraq, the parties and candidates participating in the parliamentary elections to adhere to silence, and warned the spokesman Karim al-Tamimi of the violators were subjected to "deterrent measures may reach the withdrawal of ratification of the party or candidate and deny him to participate in the elections or cancel Results in the vote. "

The elections are contested by 320 political parties, coalitions and electoral lists, represented by seven thousand and 367 candidates, amid a lower number of candidates for the 2014 elections, which registered a competition of nine thousand candidates.

The sacrifices made by all Iraqis must now be translated through the ballot boxes and a good government that will represent the people and respond to the good governance of their aspirations to live in peace, stability, freedom and dignity. "

"The Iraqis should preserve the best interests of the people and the country as they cast their votes and remind citizens that abandoning their right to vote will give others an undisputed opportunity to put their candidate in a position that may be far from the aspirations of the people and the country," he said.

"Iraqis have an opportunity and a collective responsibility to build a state in which all citizens have equal rights and responsibilities, justice, accountability and protection of their rights," the Special Representative called on all Iraqis, including in the Kurdistan region, to unite the word to promote a fully sovereign, united, democratic and federal Iraq.
