Twilight News / announced that the Kurdistan Regional Government, on Wednesday, disable the official working hours on the occasion of Eid al - Fitr, for a week. 

A spokesman for the Kurdistan Regional Government, Sven Dzia in a statement " on the occasion of Eid al - Fitr announce to the citizens of the Kurdistan Region, that the holiday in institutions and government departments to start on Sunday 06/25/2017 until 07/02/2017.

Erbil and Sulaymaniyah are putting a plan for Eid and expectations of high demand from central and southern Iraq

Twilight News / announced that each of the governorates of Erbil and Sulaymaniyah on Saturday for their plan during the days of Eid al-Fitr holiday and gave tourists from central and southern Iraq.

A spokesman for the Public Health Directorate in Erbil Luxury Kermanja at a press conference held today, more than 50% of the hospitals that have an emergency department will be its doors wide open during Eid al-Fitr.

He expected to see restaurants and public entertainment places in the city of Arbil momentum for the arrival of tourists from central and southern parts of Iraq, they have drawn a healthy follow-up to those areas, and to expedite the ambulance traffic accidents and burn and run over.

He predicted Kermanja also to see tourist places in the districts and areas of the large turnout of tourists from central and southern Iraq.

To that announced the Directorate of Tourism in the province of Sulaymaniyah, about taking the necessary measures to receive tourists through committees problem for that purpose.

The Directorate said in a statement, it has formed three specialized committees in various fields to take the measures and preparations for the reception of tourists and visitors to the city of Sulaymaniyah, as well as work to resolve shortcomings and problems faced by tourists during the days of Eid al-Fitr summer holidays.

She pointed to the allocation of a committee to receive tourists at border crossings and checkpoints leading to the province of Sulaymaniyah, while the Second Committee to comment and monitor the work of restaurants, hotels and other tourist facilities, the Third Committee focuses on the health aspect of the services provided to tourists in the tourist centers and resorts that are open in days Eid and beyond.

The Eid holidays have seen thousands of tourists pouring into the Kurdistan Region from the center and south of Iraq to escape the summer heat in the region’s natural resorts.

 

The mountains and waterfalls of Erbil province have received the lion’s share of tourists with most visiting the Gali Ali Bag waterfall and Solav where the temperature is cooler and they provide an ideal respite from the soaring heat in Iraq.

 

“The tourist sites are clean and the price of food and drinks and services are good,” Zainab Abdullah, an Iraqi tourist told Rudaw. “I’m really captivated by the mountains here and have greatly enjoyed my time.”

 

Local restauranteurs and hotel owners say they have catered to local Kurdish tourists too, but admitting that their business relies mainly on the Iraqi visitors.

 

The Kurdish government has launched on renovating several tourist sites by adding new accommodation and easier access to mountainsides and waterfalls as part of an initiative to boost the tourism sector.

 

The Kurdish region has long hot summers though compared to the rest of Iraq it remains cooler particularly in the highlands where natural shade and river flows keep the temperatures low.

 

“I’ve come here with my family from Turkey,” Yerde Cocuoglu told Rudaw. “This is the first time I see Kurdistan and its tourist areas and we are really in awe of them.”

 

Every year on the Kurdish national holiday of Newroz and other religious holidays tens of thousands of tourists from Iraq and Iran pour into the region.

 

Korek Mountain was also a big hit earlier this year with its winter sports.

 

The Kurdish government has pledged to boost the tourism sector to a level that it would provide job opportunities for local residents and together with agriculture replace the energy sector.

The number of tourists visiting the Kurdistan Region over the Ramadan holidays compared to last year has doubled to 243,000 people. Many came from the rest of Iraq seeking cooler temperatures and the relative safety of Kurdistan, generating an estimated $ 73 million.

 

“This is twice the last Ramadan Eid when 122, 000 tourists visited the Kurdistan Region,” Nawroz Mawlud, the minister for Municipalities and Tourism told Rudaw on Wednesday.

 

She said that about 70 percent of the tourists came from the southern and center of Iraq and the rest were from Iran, Turkey, and foreign countries.

 

Besides the relative security in the region compared to Iraq, she said that the high number of tourists comes as the result of some new tourism projects in different parts of the Region and a marketing strategy targeting more tourists to consider spending their holiday in Kurdistan.

 

One such place where her ministry helped was at Bekhal waterfall, north of Erbil, with 25 percent of the resort now renovated.

 

She said that they have also seen a rise in the number of foreign holidaymakers visiting Kurdistan, mainly because of the airlines which better connect the Kurdistan Region to the rest of the world through the two international airports of Erbil and Sulaimani.

 

While Kurdistan has historically been a destination of choice for the summer holidays, Mawlud said that they are working on a year-round tourism industry, with their efforts paying off last winter.

 

“Our plan was for the tourists to visit the Kurdistan Region in the four seasons, and fortunately this year in the winter a big number of tourists visited, and the same for spring,” Mawud added.

 

A top winter destination is Mount Korek in Erbil province. Local officials said in winter that its snowy mountains attracted more visitors than the area did in summer.
