One Sunday morning, a pastor came to church carrying a rusty, bent, old bird cage and set it upon the pulpit. Several people were already eyeing what he was going to do with it and what he was going to use it for and in response the pastor began to speak. I was walking through our little town the other day and I came upon this little boy coming toward me, swinging this bird cage. In it was three little wild birds, shivering with cold and fright. I stopped the lad and asked, "what you got there?.

Oh, just some old birds, and what are you going to do with them the pastor asked. I am gonna  take them home and have some fun with them, I am gonna tease them and pull out their feathers a little and make them mad enough to fight. I am gonna have a real good time with them. So the pastor asked, "Well sooner or later you will get tired of them, then what will you do with them. Oh, I got some cats that would love to have them". The pastor was stunned and silent for a moment. How much do you want for them?. Huh? Why do you want these old birds, mister, they are just plain old birds, they don't sing, they sure are not pretty, so what good are they to you.

How much the pastor asked again?. The boy silent for a moment then said, "Ten dollars with a grin". The pastor reached into his pocket and pulled out a ten dollar bill. He placed it in the boy's hand. In a flash, the boy was gone. The pastor picked up the cage and gently carried it to the end of the street where there's a park with tree's and grass. Setting the cage down, he opened the door and by softly taping the bars persuaded the birds to get out setting them free.

He then looked over the congregation, he could tell the people were wondering now just what's this got to do with anything and said, "That is the first part of my sermon now to sum it up with what it means". Now part two....... One day Satan and Jesus was having a conversation just outside the garden. Satan had just came from the Garden of Eden and he was gloating and boasting talking to himself. Yes, sir, I have just teased and caught the world full of people in a trap by making Adam and Eve do wrong. It was so easy, Yep all their children and children's children throughout the ages will do wrong.  I will sit on their shoulders and whisper in their ears things they cannot resist doing. Really! Jesus said, "and what are you gonna do with them" Jesus asked?.

Oh, I'm gonna have so much fun watching them. I am gonna  teach them to marry and beat on one another and to beat their kids, destroy their marriage and end in divorce. The kids will hate their parents, the parents will hate their kids and the family unit will slowly fade away. I am gonna teach them to get drunk, smoke weed, take drugs and curse.... then I am gonna show them how to use guns and bombs and kill one another for kicks. When I get tired of them I will cause them to kill themselves by sinking into deep depressions and thinking they are worthless and no one cares.

Jesus just shook his head and asked Satan, "How much you want for them". Satan laughed and said, "Why do you want to pay for these people when their nature will turn against you anyway". They ain't no good and never will be. They'll spit on you, curse your name, beat you bloody and kill you one day, so why do you want them. Again Jesus asked, "How much". Satan thought for a minute then he looked up at Jesus and sneered, If you want these so bad, I want all your tears, and all your blood, I want you to let them beat you before they kill you and all this you want to do for these worthless people who want to follow me. Satan laughed out loud and said, "let it be because I will still get them one day".

The pastor picked up the cage, he opened the door, he walked down from the pulpit saying, Jesus has paid the price and opened the door for all of you and it is up to you to find your way out of your cage.

Father I said, "Narrow is the way to Heaven and Broad is the way to destruction and many will be on that road". Lord speak to these people, turn their cold hearts around before its to late. Show them a better way to peace and happiness. Take away their hate, bitterness, and senseless actions and make them whole again. In the sweet name of Jesus I pray.....Amen
