ERBIL— A cameraman who served at Islamic State (IS)'s Amaq television channel, was found dead Tuesday southwest of Kirkuk province.

Lieutenant Khalid Nu'man, a police officer from Kirkuk, was quoted by Iraqi media sources saying the cameraman was beheaded near Riyadh district.

Nu'man said after the event, IS militants launched a search campaign in the area to find the responsible people.

The officer added they are yet to confirm the name of the cameraman and the reasons behind his murder.

IS Militants Use Civilians' Cars for Protection in Tel Afar

TEL AFAR — Islamic State (IS) militants confiscated dozens of vehicles belonging to civilians in the town of Tel Afar, west of Mosul, a local source said on Tuesday.

According to the source, who spoke to Al Sumaria News, the IS militants in Tel Afar used the cars as a fort, blocking the streets of the town against possible offensives.

The extremist group has been in control of the town of Tel Afar since 2014, and to this moment the town is one of the most important areas for the group in the province of Nineveh.

However, the Shi'ite paramilitary forces of Hashd al-Shaabi, which is backed by the Iraqi government and Iran, have isolated the town from the Syrian borders and from the neighboring city of Mosul, where the Iraqi forces have almost fully defeated the IS militants.

The pro-government paramilitary is currently awaiting orders from the Prime Minister of Iraq, Haider al-Abadi, to invade Tel Afar, which has a mostly Sunni Turkmen population.

Iraqi Forces Retake Fifth Bridge of Mosul

ERBIL— The last and firth bridge of Mosul on the Tigris was controlled by the Iraqi forces on Tuesday, adding to the current direct routes between the eastern and western banks of the city, the spokesperson for the major operation to liberate Mosul announced on Tuesday.

Abdulamir Yarallah was quoted by the Iraqi media outlets as saying now the forces who controlled the bridge have secured a direct path to the  Iraqi forces on the opposite side of the bridge in Raskur neighborhood in the Old City of Mosul.

However, due to constant airstrikes the bridge is currently out of use.   

Yarallah added troops from the Armored Ninth Division of the army also controlled the southern parts of Shifa neighborhood.

The retaken areas include the ancient Bashtania Citadel, the Juvenile Reform Center, the sacred shrine of Yahya Abu Qasem, Nineveh Health Office and Mariya Church.

Twilight News / Federal Police team leader Raed Shakir Jawdat said on Tuesday to impose control over 40% of the white door area within the last areas under the control of the organization Daesh in the right side of the city of Mosul.

I suspect not a whole lot longer before all of Mosul is declared free of ISIS controlled areas. I am surprised at the nominal east - west spur and how quickly the IDF drove the spur into the Mosul Old City very near the Nuri Mosque. Probably the best IDF strategy is to retake the main Nuri Mosque from ISIS and then any other mosques in the Mosul Old City. Hey, if a caliphate can't hold any mosques in their caliphate capital - especially the main mosque - things are pretty much down hill from there! I suspect ISIS will either give up after the Mosul Old City mosques are all taken or do one final jihad charge and then blow themselves up to try and take down as many IDF and civilians as possible. The next few hours or couple days may produce prolific carnage. I'll be praying for these people!

 

I have some tempered anticipation now through the start of the Iraqi Parliamentary sessions on Tuesday, July 4th with Eid al-Fitr possibly holding some surprises. You just never know!

Well, fellow esteemed dinarians, looks like game over for the ISIS militants in Mosul! HURRAY!!!

 

Pretty sure most IDF don't like their mosque built in 1172 to be blown up after 845 years of history! I saw another article where IDF is "angry" that ISIS blew up the mosque when IDF had gotten within about 50 yards. Here are some tweets:

 

 

 

 

Pretty sure the clean up of the rest of ISIS in the Mosul Old City will go pretty quickly now. IDF is madder than hornets and will put the hurt hard and fast on ISIS. Hopefully the humanitarian aid can flow quickly and smoothly into the Mosul Old City to give these people much needed relief.

 

The announcement that all of Mosul is free of ISIS controlled areas will likely come very soon now and very likely before the start of Eid al-Fitr.

 

With all the solid evidence tying Nouri al-Maliki to the ISIS incursion and all the related human atrocities, Nouri al-Maliki may make hisself the last ISIS suicide bomber in the Old City of Mosul!!!
