What exchange rate are they referring to 1166, 1182 or Real True Value not yet revealed? Depends on when they done the original contract and what rate was used from the list above or the new rate to be used. 2. Why go to the extreme of cutting electric until new contract is completed which will include a undervalued 1166 / 1182? 1 Billion owed is a lot of money but why immediate circumstances and the changing exchange rate matter unless we are talking about an substantial RV / RI of the IQD in the near term. I do not see the Iranians going through all of this just to go from a possible 1166 to 1182 rate for a new contract IMHO. Of course, It is possible they let the cat out of the bag accidentally but maybe intentionally....Who knows... **In the days ahead we pray all will be revealed!! Just my 2 cents!! Wiljor
Iraq, March 16, 2017 Iran resumed today exporting electric power to Iraq after it had been halted for more than two months, the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity revealed in a statement on Tuesday. The halt was said to have been resulted from Baghdad’s accumulated debts to the Iranian government. “The Iranian side will restart power lines to work after a hiatus of more than two months because of the accumulation of debt,” the ministry statement said. The statement added that the operation of these lines will add 1300 megawatts to the national grid. Last January, Iran halted electricity supplies, represented in five power lines, to Iraq because of the outstanding arrears, which have piled up to reach $1 billion. In July 2016, Iran partially halted electricity supplies coming through the power lines of “Khrmchehr- Bozrah” and “Krkhh – Building”, which provide Iraq 800 megawatts of electric power. The two lines’ services were resumed after the government in Baghdad paid $350 million as part of its debt for power imports. The Islamic Republic supplies Iraq with about 1,500-2,000 megawatts of electricity under an agreement between the two countries in 2005. An official source at the ministry to Anadolu Agency that the resumption of electric power supplies to Iraq came after a recent visit by an Iraqi official delegation to Tehran, during which the two countries agreed on repaying the debts in three instalments. According to the source, the contract to sell power to Iraq was renewed until the end of 2017. The source, who preferred anonymity, explained that the power supplies halt had directly affected the Diyala, Wasit, and Basra provinces. Most of the Iraqi provinces suffer power cuts for long periods, especially during the cold weather as Iraqis predominately rely on electrical heaters. middleeastmonitor http://iraqdailyjournal.com/story-z14962567
blueskyline
Minister: Iran Resumes Exporting Electricity to Iraq TEHRAN (FNA)- Iran started exporting electricity to Iraq after the Baghdad government agreed to pay its arrears in different installments, a senior energy official announced. "Iran's export of electricity to Iraq stands at about 1,500 megawatts and the figure will fluctuate in different seasons as a result of change in temperature," Iranian Energy Minister Hamid Chitchian told reporters. The Iranian energy minister reiterated that the export of electricity to Iraq was halted in late December 2016 immediately after termination of their contract with the Islamic Republic of Iran. In relevant remarks in early January, Managing Director of Tavanir Electricity Generation, Transmission, and Distribution Company Arash Kordi announced that an Iranian delegation was in Baghdad to renew the contract on Iran's electricity sales to that country. "The electricity exports were brought to a halt due to the expiry of the contract and the resumption of the process would require a new amendment to the contract," Kordi told reporters. He reiterated that the new agreement needs to be modified in accordance with the current circumstances and the changes in currency prices among other major issues. Asked about the possibility of an uplift in the volume of electricity exports to Iraq, Kordi said that general conditions had been laid in that regard though the issue would become clear once negotiations become finalized.”
