tigergorzow
10.000 Iraq factories closed since 2003 due to negligence March 23 2017 12:22 AM Mohammed al-Daraji Iraq's former Minister of Industry said on Wednesday that more than 10,000 plants have been shut down since 2003, due to deliberate governmental negligence, The Baghdad Post reported. In a statement, Mohammed al-Daraji, a Sadrist movement member, said "More than 10,000 privately-owned factories have been forced to shut down, and the Iraqi industry has been deliberately disrupted". Daraji further slammed those promoting for a public opinion that claims Iraq lacks a real industrial sector. "Before 2003, the industrial sector contributed in the state budget by 14 percent. After 14 years, the industrial sector gives its employees' salaries by borrowing from the Rafidain and Rashid banks," he added.Daraji criticized the government's economic policies that made Iraq an open market for other countries' products. http://www.thebaghdadpost.com/en/story/8510/10-000-Iraq-factories-closed-since-2003-due-to-negligence
Karsten
I am just wondering with the current state of affairs (War Torn, bombed, blown up and the rest) what sort of industry did Iraq have and what could they possibly have left after IS. I don't mean this in a bad way but what ever came out of a Factory in Iraq? Karsten
chinadawg
I believe the number one industry was rugs.
Rockymtnhi
At a budget of $100B, industry at 14% would be $14B. That's a lot of rugs. lol
