Shiite parties aim to topple Abadi – Sources revealed

A number of Shiite parties are working on to topple Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi as soon as possible after Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir's recent visit to Baghdad in which they agreed on fostering bilateral relations despite Iran's interests in Iraq, well-informed sources told The Baghdad Post on Sunday.

A dispute erupted between Shiite parties, including the National Iraqi Alliance led by Nouri al-Maliki and Citizen Alliance led by Ammar al-Hakim, and Abadi government, the sources added.

The Shiite parties did not take any aggressive steps against Abadi because of the US, Arab and international support to the prime minister, the sources further said.

This comes after Abadi accused a number of members of parliament over corruption and embezzlement charges in which IQD 54 billion were looted.

Citizen Alliance replied to Abadi's attacks via a counterattack in which it said that Abadi is a corrupted person who looted Iraqi people.
