An Iraqi Army officer said 2,000 US troops have arrived at a military base in Anbar province to back the ongoing Iraqi offensive against ISIS militants.

The lieutenant colonel, who requested anonymity, said to The Baghdad post on Monday, " 2000 U.S. soldiers within the international coalition have arrived at the Ain al-Assad military base, 90 km western Ramadi, the capital of Anbar governorate."

He added the personnel are expected to back imminent Iraqi operations to liberate districts of Annah, Rawah and al-Qa'im in western Anbar.

These forces will also extend operations to regions on the borders with Syria, he added.

He affirmed the operations would be launched within a short time coinciding the arrival of the needed equipment and military supplies.

However, the Iraqi officer has not revealed whether the U.S. troops came from other bases inside Iraq.   

Al Asad, a massive airfield in Anbar province, was a major hub for U.S. Marines throughout the Iraq war. It's centrally located near the ISIS terrorist group controlled territories and could be a strategic location for future operations targeting Raqqa, ISIS's self-proclaimed capital.

Anbar (IraqiNews.com) The Joint Operations Command denied on Monday news regarding the arrival of 2000 US Marine soldiers in Anbar Province.

The Ministry of Defense’s War Media Cell said in a press statement, “Some media outlets reported that 2000 US soldiers have arrived in Ayn al-Assad base in Anbar Province,” adding that, “These news is false and inaccurate.”

Yesterday, some news claimed that 2000 US Marine soldiers arrived in Ayn al-Assad base in Anbar Province, as an aid from the United States, which leads the international coalition, to Iraq in its war against the Islamic State.

The news also pointed out that these troops will participate in the expected military operations to liberate the areas of Anah, Rawa and Qaim, west of Anbar.

More than 4000 troops belonging to the United States are stationed in military bases in the western provinces of Iraq and Kurdistan Region, to provide training to Iraqi forces fighting the Islamic State group.

I expect to see a massive surrender of what is left of ISIS in the next few days. To continue to fight at this point is futile at best and suicide at worse. 

Iraqi forces also announced recently the control of Shuhada, Sumoud and Resale neighbourhoods, in addition to killing a number of ISIS militants and foiling five car bombs. Forces towards the outskirts of the city are attempting to encircle ISIS in western Mosul, with the aim of besieging the group and forcing its surrender.

Intelligence sources confirm arrival of 2,000 US troops to Assad base

The arrival of 2,000 US troops to Ain al-Assad air base at al-Baghdadi area in western Anbar province has triggered huge controversy in the political scene in Iraq, especially within the national Shiite alliance in Iraqi parliament.

Shiite politicians have fears that the mobilization of US forces may declare a new era for Iraq that threatens their future, their Iranian-backed schemes and eventually end their militias' existence in Iraq.

Since the declaration of the US troops' arrival, Baghdad Operations Command and al-Jazzera wa al-Badeya Operations command rushed to deny the news even though al-Assad air base is not included in the areas under their control and scope of operations.

Intelligence and tribal sources from al-Baghdadi area have confirmed the news and said that the US forces will participate in ground operations in the western parts of Mosul.

The personnel are expected to back imminent Iraqi operations to liberate districts of Annah, Rawah and al-Qa'im in western Anbar and will also extend operations to regions on the borders with Syria.

The operations would be launched within a short time coinciding the arrival of the needed equipment and military supplies.

That is great news LGD.  So for me, particularly if your scenario plays out, June could be a reasonable time frame for an RV. Especially if they put TIGHT border security in place. While their Federal Police handle the internal security in a post ISIS world.
