Immigration announces new statistics on displaced Mosul

BAGHDAD (AP) — An Iraqi military officer says Islamic State militants have launched a gas attack in a newly-liberated area in western Mosul.

The officer with the anti-terrorism forces said Saturday that the attack occurred the night before in the al-Abar neighborhood, when IS fired a rocked loaded with chlorine. He said seven soldiers suffered breathing problems and were treated in a nearby field clinic.

The officer spoke on condition of anonymity as he was not authorized to release information.

'We Are Coming, Nineveh' Colonel killed in Mosul

A colonel form "We Are Coming, Nineveh" operations was killed in the battles against ISIS in Mosul, Joint Operations command said on Saturday.
 

In a statement, the Joint Operations mourned the death of Colonel Falah Hassan Salman, commander of Iraqi Army's 3^rd division of the 91^st brigade, who had been killed in the wee hours of Saturday.
 

The Iraqi Army launched an offensive on 19^th of February to oust ISIS militants from Mosul their last stronghold in Iraq.

Federal Police killed an ISIS top leader and controlled a fortified tunnel network in old city of Mosul neighborhoods, Federal Police command announced on Saturday.
 

"Our Forces killed ISIS leader Mahmoud Ali Mahmoud Matar al-Hadeidi in clashes in the old city of Mosul," Federal Police Commander Gen. Raed Shakir Jawdat said.
 

The Federal Police forces controlled a tunnel network fortified against missiles and bombs located under the southern parts of the old city of Mosul that was being used as an alternative base to ISIS terrorists, according to Jawdat.

Iraqi security forces continued on Saturday its fights against ISIS terrorist group at the suburbs of Mosul's Old City, sources told the Baghdad Post.

Counter-terrorism forces are advancing in Al-Tank district while military forces are approaching the northern areas of Al-Mushrifa district.

Exclusive: ISIS sets missile launchers in Abu Tammam district of Mosul

ISIS terrorist group set on Saturday a number of missile launchers near the main street in Abu Tammam district of Mosul, a source told the Baghdad Post.
 

In exclusive statements, the source said the missile launchers are directed towards the left bank of Mosul city.

The terrorist group did not bring the missiles yet to the area, the source underlined, adding that the missile launchers were set near housing buildings where a hundreds of civilians are living and forced by the terrorist group to stay in their houses as human shields.

Iraqi Forces launched a major offensive on 19th of February to retake the western part of Mosul after declaring total control of the eastern part of the city on 24th of January as part of the military operations to liberate the city that started on 17th of October 2016

An Iraqi military officer says ISIS terrorists have launched a gas attack in a newly-liberated area in western Mosul, FoxNews reported on Saturday.

The officer with the anti-terrorism forces said Saturday that the attack occurred the night before in the al-Abar neighborhood, when ISIS fired a rocked loaded with chlorine.

U.S.-backed Iraqi forces are currently battling ISIS terrorists  in the more densely-populated western half of Mosul.

Iraqi officials say more than half of western Mosul has been retaken. The extremists were driven out of the eastern half of Mosul, Iraq's second-largest city, in January.

9 ISIS terrorists killed in int'l coalition strikes western Iraq

An International Coalition airstrike has killed nine ISIS terrorists in Anbar Governorate, western Baghdad, The Baghdad Post reported on Saturday. 

In a press statement, Gen. Qassem al-Mohamady said, "The US-led coalition bombarded an ISIS bastion in Rayhana district, 210 km western Ramadi, killing nine terrorists".

"The strikes also targeted four vehicles in Rawah district, 230 km western Ramadi, and killed all militants in them," Mohamady said, without revealing the number of those killed.

He added the bombardment came as a preparation for imminent strikes by the  international coalition and the Iraqi forces to liberate districts of Rawah, Annah and Qa'im western Anbar. 

ISIS terror group is currently taking civilians in those areas as human shields. 

Since October, 216, the Iraqi army in collaboration with the international coalition have launched an offensive code-named 'We Are Coming, Nineveh' to liberate occupied districts from ISIS.

Iraqi Air Force: Heavy bombs banned in Mosul battle

Iraqi Air Force Commander, Lieutenant-General Anwar Hammah said the use of heavy bombs had been totally banned in Mosul, where laser-guided bombs are used to hit targets. 

In televised remarks, Hammah said, "The bombs used by the Iraqi air force in Mosul are laser-guided and used when we ascertain the nature of the target".

He added  the armed forces get information from the intelligence services.

" The battle to recapture the right bank of Mosul  is approaches the end, Hammah said, without specifying a date.

The primary target is to save the lives of civilians there, he added.

Hundreds of civilians were killed in previous airstrikes against targets in Mosul's right bank. 

He asserted Iraqi airstrikes had targeted ISIS positions inside Syrian territories. "Our strikes hit three targets: two targets inside Iraq and the third in Syria," he said.

He confirmed the strike, that was one hundred percent accurate, was carried out in coordination with the Syrian army.
