Nineveh (IraqiNews.com) A local source in Nineveh Province declared that the self-proclaimed Islamic State group imposed a comprehensive curfew in Wadi Akab, west of Mosul, amid intense movement of vehicles carrying blue barrels.

The source said, “The Islamic State group imposed a comprehensive curfew in Wadi Akab, west of the city of Mosul, and cut off all roads leading to the area.”

“The curfew was imposed amid intense movement of vehicles carrying blue barrels, suspected to contain explosive materials,” the source added on condition of anonymity.

Noteworthy, security forces are preparing to storm into the western side of the city of Mosul, after liberating the eastern side and inflicting heavy losses on the Islamic State.

Nineveh (IraqiNews.com) Four Islamic State militants were killed on Wednesday when military jets bombed a small boat they were boarding off the western bank of Tigris River in Mosul, Alsumaria News quoted a local source as saying.

Over the past two weeks, Islamic State militants have reportedly made several attempts to cross the river, which bisects the city, to wage attacks against security troops which became in full control over the eastern side since January 24th. Security officials have said they foiled those attacks and killed several militants. The group had lost more than 3000 of its fighters since security operations to retake Mosul launched in October.

The Iraqi government has yet to give directives to the security leaderships to carry on with a ground invasion of Islamic State strongholds in the west. Iraqi and U.S. generals predict more difficult battles there due to the existence of 750.000 civilians in mostly narrow residential areas. Iraqi and international coalition jets have recently bombed militants locations in western Mosul preparing for the next phase of operations.

The conflict in Mosul has forced at least 191.000 civilians to seek shelter at refugee camps, and the United Nations had predicted turmoil to force at least one million people out of home.

Nineveh (Islamic State) Islamic State has closed its Hisbah (vigilantism) offices in southwestern Mosul and deployed their staff to combat lines, local sources told Bas News website on Wednesday as the group anticipates imminent offensives by security forces.

Hisbah committees are Islamic State’s religious law enforcement arm, which arrests violators of the group’s extreme religious rules and carries out sentences issued against them.

IS militants have occupied Mosul since they emerged in 2014 to proclaim an “Islamic Caliphate” in Iraq. A three-month-old military campaign by Iraqi joint government forces, backed by troops and advisers from a U.S.-led coalition, had managed to recapture the eastern section of the city on January 24th. Preparations are underway to cross the Tigris River, which bisects the city, to the western region, where militants still maintain a majority of districts inhabited by nearly 750.000 civilians.

The extremist group has lost many of its senior leaders and personnel over the past three months, and reports of infighting and division within its ranks have been recurrent. Many reports have also shed light on financing problems delaying fighters’ payments, and others said the group hired minors to fight for it.

The U.S. Department of Defense said Tuesday the group has become effectively stuck in western Mosul, with no choice other than fighting to death or surrendering.

Ezidkhan Protection Units Voluntarily Joined Peshmerga: Commander

ERBIL — The Ezidkhan Protection Units are joining the Kurdistan Region’s Peshmerga forces upon their own request which has already received approval from Kurdistan Region President Masoud Barzani, the commander of the Yezidi forces told Kurdistan24.

However, he said their fighters have not yet officially joined the Peshmerga forces.

BasNews previously quoted Qadim Shasho, the commander of the Ezidkhan Protection Units, saying that 2000 of his men will join the Peshmerga. He further explained that the force will be part of Peshmerga and receive orders from the Kurdistan Region President Masoud Barzani who is also the Commender-in-Chief of the Kurdish armed forces.

The Ezidkhan Protection Units was previously known as an offshoot of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).

Canadian Military Supplies to Peshmerga to Arrive Soon

ERBIL — Canada has taken steps to acquire weapons and equipment that were promised to be delivered to the Kurdish Peshmerga forces battling the Islamic State in Iraq.  Once the items, which include anti-tank missiles, medical supplies, and protective equipment, among other things, are purchased, the delivery will follow as soon as possible, the Canadian Defense Ministry said in a statement.

"The acquisition of the equipment is underway," reads the statement.

"The intent remains to deliver the items as quickly as possible, in line with suppliers’ ability to provide the quantities sought.”

The estimated value of the shipment will be $9.5 million, according to a statement made earlier this year by Daniel Le Bouthillier, spokesman for Canada’s National Defense.

The Iraqi government approved the delivery at the end of the previous year. There was some concern that the Iraqi government would refuse approval as the weapons could potentially be used to further the cause of Kurdish independence from Iraq.

The legal agreements which are being drawn up by Canadian authorities will need to be signed by both Baghdad and the Kurdish regional government in order to proceed with the delivery.

IS Leader in Charge of Prisoners Killed in Mosul

MOSUL — Kurdistan Region Counter-terrorism announced on Thursday the death of an Islamic State (IS) leader in Mosul.

According to the counter-terrorism statement, IS leader Ahmed Ghanim al-Jabouri was killed in an airstrike of the US-led anti-IS global coalition air force in central Mosul on February 6.

Al-Jabouri was the IS director for the prisoners' affairs in Mosul.

Since the operation of Mosul began last October, numerous IS leaders have been eliminated. Iraqi PM Haidar al-Abadi recently said in an interview with Reuters the US-led coalition has “killed and eliminated” a great number of IS leader al-Baghdadi’s close aides and has “almost crushed Daesh militarily,” He said, using the Arabic acronym for IS.

ERBIL — Peshmerga troops at Roj Force ranks are regarded by the US as a legitimate force of Rojava (Syrian Kurdistan), said a member of Kurdish National Council of Syria (ENKS) leadership council.

Saeed Omar told BasNews on Thursday that the force, which has gathered young Kurdish people from Rojava, has been trained by the American advisors and under the auspices of professionals from the Kurdistan Region Peshmerga Ministry.

Omar added in the due meeting of ENKS with the US administration this month, that the issue of deploying Roj Force in Rojava will be discussed.

"The future of Roj Force is clear," ENKS member said "they want to protect Rojava and they have given big sacrifices in Kurdistan Region."

Roj Peshmerga is prevented by the Kurdish ruling party in Rojava from returning home, as the force refuses to operate under the command of People's Protection Units (YPG), the military wing of the ruling Democratic Union Party (PYD).

Roj Peshmerga have taken part in the war against the Islamic State (IS) in Nineveh province and some have even lost their lives during the battles.

Many ISIS operatives killed in Mosul operations, Iraqi PM says

Iraqi Prime Minister Haider Al-Abadi on Thursday said that most of ISIS terror group affiliates left Mosul, heading for Syria.

In a meeting with Iraqi governors in Baghdad, Al-Abadi said that the enemies, referring to ISIS terrorist group, are collapsing in Mosul.

There is an old infighting within the ranks of the terror group, and the foreign fighters and their families left Nineveh, he added.

Al-Abadi indicated that the areas under control of the terrorists are on the decrease.

Many ISIS operatives were killed in Mosul military operations and their capabilities dwindled after confiscating much of their weaponry and explosives during the battles.

The Prime Minister further noted that the Iraqi forces get information from civilians about the storehouses where ISIS stockpile their military hardware, saying that he speculates freeing all parts of Mosul in the foreseeable future.

Calls for rescuing civilians in Mosul Right Coast from ISIS atrocities

Chairman of the Human Rights Committee in the Iraqi parliament Nayef Al-Shemari called for accelerating efforts to liberate the Right Coast of Mosul and rescuing them from the atrocities of ISIS terrorist group.
 

In a press conference held at the headquarters of the parliament, the lawmaker said that the civilians in the Right Coast of Mosul are living in dreadful conditions, asserting that the army and police personnel should step and liberate this area.

Informed source told the Baghdad Post on Wednesday that an offensive to retake the Right Coast of Mosul will launch within 10 days.

The Iraqi army, police and counter-terror forces will partake in the operation.

Also, the sources revealed that the forces affiliated with the Iran Militia in Iraq and Syria (IMIS) will not be engaged in fighting inside cities, and they will be kept away in the open desert areas in the western parts near the Syrian borders.
