Kurdish Delegation to Discuss Independence with Iraqi PM in Munich

ERBIL— A senior delegation from the Kurdistan Region, led by President Masoud Barzani, will ask Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi to agree to independence of Kurdistan, according to a member of the delegation.

Muhammed Haji Mahmud told BasNews on Friday that the Kurdish delegation will meet with Abadi on the sidelines of Munich Security Conference (MSC).

Secretary General of Kurdistan Socialist Democratic Party also said in the meeting the delegation will remind Abadi that "the Iraqi government did not remain committed to the constitution and violated Kurdish people's rights."

Mahmud added the delegation would openly ask Abadi to agree to declaring statehood for Kurdistan Region and for Kurdistan to "become a good neighbor to Baghdad."

According to Mahmud, the delegation which comprises political and military officials will also seek the support of the countries at the MSC for independence of Kurdistan Region.

As for the participation of Kurds in MSC, Mahmud said the Kurdish delegation was invited to the event for "major role Kurdistan is playing in the security of the whole world."

The three-day security conference in Munich will kick off on Friday. More than 500 leaders from across the world will debate the current and future challenges to international security.

"   Merkel stressed, according to the statement, "her country's commitment to the unity of Iraq and supporting Germany continuously both directly and through NATO will expand in the field of military support," praising "the cleanliness of the battle and respect for human rights and the protection of civilians by Iraqi forces."   Merkel said she instructed to "send a special envoy to Iraq in the coming days to support government economic reform plans."   The Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi, arrived on Friday (February 17, 2017), to Germany to participate in Munich Security Conference.

ERBIL— A senior delegation from the Kurdistan Region, led by President Masoud Barzani, will ask Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi to agree to independence of Kurdistan, according to a member of the delegation.

Muhammed Haji Mahmud told BasNews on Friday that the Kurdish delegation will meet with Abadi on the sidelines of Munich Security Conference (MSC).

Secretary General of Kurdistan Socialist Democratic Party also said in the meeting the delegation will remind Abadi that "the Iraqi government did not remain committed to the constitution and violated Kurdish people's rights."

Mahmud added the delegation would openly ask Abadi to agree to declaring statehood for Kurdistan Region and for Kurdistan to "become a good neighbor to Baghdad."

According to Mahmud, the delegation which comprises political and military officials will also seek the support of the countries at the MSC for independence of Kurdistan Region.

As for the participation of Kurds in MSC, Mahmud said the Kurdish delegation was invited to the event for "major role Kurdistan is playing in the security of the whole world."

The three-day security conference in Munich will kick off on Friday. More than 500 leaders from across the world will debate the current and future challenges to international security.
