Member of the parliamentary Finance Committee, MP Abdalqader Omer said in a statement on Monday, 23 of Jan, that a delegation from Kurdistan Region Government is heading to Baghdad to discuss Kurdistan's shear of 2017 budget.
KRG had previously refused the 2017 budget and its terms regarding Kurdistan Region, considering it as a political conspiracy.
In Mr. Omer's statement to PUKmedia, he stressed that the 2017 budget is a priority for the Kurdish delegation, but their agenda contains other issues to be discussed.
On the 7th of Dec, Iraq's parliament approved the 2017 budget despite the refusal of Kurdish Parliament Members.
The budget said it was based on projections of an oil price of $42 per barrel and exports of 3.75 million barrels per day (bpd), including 250,000 bpd from oilfields in Kurdistan Region.
The budget also failed to allocate enough money for salaries of state workers and Peshmerga fighters in Kurdistan.
Current and former Iraqi federal governments have said the Kurds have failed to respect deals to transfer agreed volumes of oil produced from oilfields in areas they control to Baghdad.
Kurdistan is entitled to 17 percent of Iraq's overall budget, and Kurdish politicians say it needs stable revenues to pay its bills, support hundreds of thousands of refugees fleeing the war with Islamic State and finance Peshmerga forces.

The Case for an Independent Kurdistan
Iraqi Kurdistan Threatens to Declare Independence if Maliki Returns as PM

Iraq (Sputnik) – President of Iraqi Kurdistan Masoud Barzani said on Monday he would declare the autonomous region’s independence from Iraq if Iraqi Vice President Nouri Maliki returns to the post of the country’s prime minister.
According to Barzani, the Iraqi parliament’s decision last September to remove former finance minister Hoshyar Zebari from office over allegations of corruption was part of Maliki’s plan to return to leadership and to weaken Prime Minister Haider Abadi.

“I will announce the independence of Kurdistan the minute in which Maliki becomes a prime minister, I will not refer to anyone and let whatever needs to happen, happen… I will not remain in an Iraq ruled by Maliki,” Barzani told Asharq al-Awsat newspaper.
Maliki was the prime minister of Iraq from 2006 to 2014, a position he was forced to vacate due to protests and allegations that it was his fault Daesh had gained territory in Iraq. During his tenure, he developed a poor relationship with Kurdistan and the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), and increased tensions by withholding the region’s share of the Iraqi budget in 2014, after the KRG sold oil independently against Baghdad’s wish, causing economic hardship in the region.

The Iraqi general elections are due to be held in 2018.
The Kurds are Syria’s, Iraq’s and Turkey’s largest ethnic minority. The ethnic group is striving to create their own independent state. Kurdistan in Iraq was created in 1970 based on an agreement with the Iraqi government, ending years of fighting. It gained autonomous governance status as part of the 2005 constitution, but is still considered part of Iraq.

Everyone keeps saying Maliki is done, but he keeps popping back up.  Like a damn jack in the box.  I say nail the lid shut with extra long nails and let them go through his warped cranium.  No worries, no big deal, no better loss.  Humanity will live long and prosper without him.

We used to clear houses when an informant told us about unauthorized weapon caches.  Most of the time, we didn't find anything important.  What was interesting was the community response to a person having their home raided at 3AM.  They lost face amongst their friends almost immediately.  That said, I wonder if we, they, whoever is running this show, is keeping that knucklehead around for just such an occasion.  Hopefully, there is a bigger plan for not removing him from government.  Like finding out all the things he's done, who he's supported, where the money went, who controls it, etc.  Just thinking out loud.

Maliki is finished in politics in Iraq an the Barzani family knows this but still looking for a way to get around their constitution an stay in power.

Kurdistan could be one of the greatest regions in the Middle East if they could rid themselves of these crooks...We all know they have the greatest army in that part of the world...

Shi'ite MP Urges Iraqi Parties to Discuss Kurdish Independence with Barzani

He says Barzani's status is important for settling issues in Iraq

Shi'ite MP Urges Iraqi Parties to Discuss Kurdish Independence with Barzani

ERBIL — For the upcoming phase in Iraq, the parties should consult with Kurdistan Region President Masoud Barzani and discuss his demand for Kurdistan Region independence from Baghdad, said a lawmaker form the Shi'ite National Alliance.

Rasul Razi told the Iraqi media outlets on Wednesday that the recent visit by a delegation from the Shi'ite National Alliance aimed at resolving the political issues.

This week a delegation led by Ammar al-Hakim, leader of Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq (ISCI), met with Barzani.

According to Razi, in the meeting the Shi'ite delegation among other issues discussed a recently proposed project by ISCI leader for reconciliation among the Iraqi peoples.

"Masoud Barzani has a strong personality in Kurdistan and possesses a strong status, [therefore] the discussion between Ammar al-Hakim and Barzani was significant," Razi declared.

An advisor to Barzani told BasNews earlier that Hakim's project does not propose for reconciliation but rather it paves the way for the monopoly of power by the Shi'ite factions.

Speaking to BasNews, Mohammed Sa'daddin Anwar, the leader of Turkmen Development Party, who attended Barzani and Hakim's meeting, said he was surprised when he saw the parties discussing the independence of Kurdistan openly.

"This was something new," Anwar said "This development is a positive sign for the future of Kurdistan."

He added that the talks with the rest of the Iraqi parties over this demand by the Kurdish authorities are expected to continue.
