ECONOMIC CONFERENCE FOR INVESTMENT PROJECTS IN IRAQ PROMOTES OPORTUNITIES
Iraq, October 26, 2016
The Economic Conference for Investment Projects in Iraq was held on the 17th of October 2016 in partnership with The Supreme Commission for Coordination between Provinces, The National Investment Commission, Trade Bank of Iraq, General Electric, Al-Nowais Investments, and EMEA from the United Arab Emirate

The theme of the conference focused on projects across all Iraqi provinces, to progress work on non-completed projects in addition to the presentation of new investment opportunities in the public sector.

The conference was attended by The Secretary General of the Iraqi Council of Ministers, Dr. Mahdi AL-Alaqalong with Governors of Iraqi Provinces and officials from Government Ministries, as well as Ambassadors represented in the Republic of Iraq.

The conference also saw the participation of the International Finance Company (IFC) and visiting delegates from international banking institutions such as J.B. Morgan, Citi, Duetche, and Denske Bank as well as local and regional banks operating in Iraq.

It is worth mentioning that this conference is the first of its kind in Iraq which held workshops to discuss investment projects in the Iraqi provinces. Those workshops were divided into four working groups as follows:

1. Baghdad Province, Baghdad Municipality and Karbala Province.

2. Basra, Najaf, Diyala, and Kirkuk Provinces.

3. Diwaniya, Maysan, Babil and Salaheldeen Provinces.

4. Wasit, Anbar, Muthana, and Thi-Qar Provinces.

Each Governor presented his province’s selected investment projects and had an open discussion with local, regional, and international investors.

The objective of the workshops was to have an open forum for the investors and Provinces’ officials to explore investment opportunities and take practical steps to increase the investments in the Iraqi public sector projects.
