I know that the U.S. does things in our own interest, some of it was out of fear for communism and the cold war. The list is long but I imagine any superpower has done the same. No one can stop war and no nation has clean hands. With all of the firepower that we have today, i say if we declare war let's just get it over as quickly as possible without the use of a lot of ground troops. In modern day there is no way that we don't see what the enemy is doing on the ground from the air. Over in Syria Assad is as bad as Saddam Hussein was in Iraq, Assad  has murdered millions of his own countrymen. The problem is who is going to take his place, everybody seems to hate Malaki  but he was the lesser of evils in Iraq. So who will take Assad's place ? I'm ready to exterminate ISIS/DAASH and any of the rest of these extremist but I don't think it will cure the problem. Thanks

Waterman, we will simply not agree on this. I do not believe that the US government is currently backing ISIS in any manner other than not annihilating them, as we should be doing. Obama's inept administration bungled this whole scenario, starting with the complete pullout of US ground troops from iraq in 2011. He failed to deal with Syria's civil war, which allowed factions within their borders to evolve into ISIS. These same jihadis saw instant opportunity in a weak, corrupt iraq, governed by a hated and weak Shia government, and invaded with the help of iraqi sunnis. Nothing much has changed since ISIS invaded iraq. Obama has put forth a miniscule, ineffective air campaign against ISIS with almost no pushback. It will take a Republican President who will aggressively put together a NATO invading ground force before this scourge is eliminated. No air campaign is going to stop ISIS. But to say that the US government is currently supporting ISIS, ie, through money or weapons, is not based on anything other than the usual conspiracy talking points.

I am so sorry that you are deceived because it is the truth. We the (US) financed the Al-Qaeda in Afghanistan, which morphed into what we are facing now (ISIS). it is interesting that ISIS is their name now, the goddess of the moon, The administration wants to call it ISIL, to distract the main issue that it is from the god of set, in other words Satan! Do you think this government of the US is of "God"? WRONG! Look at the house of congress, what is in the background of the speaker of the house? It's two Facii, or Facist symbol of which this US was founded on, WAKE UP!

Iiiyyyaaaaaa! Am I the only poster who still believes in the greatness of this country? It truely saddens me that so many of you have such an apparent hatred and dislike for this country. Our government is still composed of people WE voted in. I didn't vote for Obama either time but over half the country did. The only way our founding fathers designed our ability to make changes in this country was by the intelligent voting of the citizenry. Of course you could always secede from the union, but that was already tried once with disastrous results. Like I said before. If you want to bad mouth the US, then just do a little traveling around this globe and it will become quite apparent which side of the bread you were blessed with. Yes, I am a PROUD American.

Uh - you may have a point.  I've been reading and posting since 2009/10 and think I have a pretty good feel (O stop it WHN) for the patriotism that underlines the conservative and liberal passion presented here.  I am a Christian Conservative with a strong Libertarian understanding that allows me to acknowledge that Liberals are American patriots too.

 

Now, Communists, Progressives, Anarchists and Traitors are a different thing.  Perhaps you could point out which one of their posts I missed.  I'm sure then, we would be in total agreement.
