Interior Minister Qassim al-Araji announced on Tuesday the opening of a new passport system at the headquarters of the General Directorate of Nationality in Baghdad, while promising that the mechanism of detention in ways "very easy".

This could be significant for projected future business with other countries. 25,000 a day is nominally 125,000 a week or nominally half a million a month or nominally 6 million a year. Not sure how many have passports now. Apparently, 1/2 of the Iraqi population is under 19 years of age. There are nominally 38 million Iraqis in Iraq today.

 

Alternately, the volume of passports could be due to increased international restrictions on travel for religious (pilgrimage, etc) reasons.

 

I find it odd, though, that the issuing of these passports is at a feverish or near feverish pace - hopefully for bi'ness reasons!!!
