in this tragedy we see the victims of this heinous act. Second, we know that it was

Multiple people reportedly dead in shooting at Oregon college

DEVELOPING -- Oregon police confirm the gunman in a shooting at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg is dead, but cannot confirm reports of the number of fatalities. Local media and authorities have been reporting 10-15 dead.

Here's what we know as of 5:30 p.m. ET:

• Authorities told Fox News they responded to a report of a shooting Thursday at around 10:38 a.m. local time.
• The shooter was a 20-year-old male and he is now dead.
• Mercy Medical Center said in aFacebook posting that it had received nine patients from the shooting and three more were on the way.
• A Peace Health Sacred Heart Medical Center spokesperson said the hospital had received "six victims," two females and four males. "One of the females is 18 years old."
• A Douglas County Sheriff's Dept. spokesperson said multiple assets were on site and EMS was on the scene. 
• The ATF said on Twitter that it had special agents on the scene.
• Students and faculty members are being bused to the Douglas County Fairgrounds and can be picked up there.

Kortney Moore, 18, told the News-Review she was in her Writing 115 class in Snyder Hall when a shot came through the window. Moore said she saw her teacher get shot in the head. The shooter then reportedly told the students to get on the ground before asking people to stand up and state their religion. He then began firing. Moore said she was lying on the ground with people who had been shot.

Douglas County Sheriff John Hanlin said officers located the shooters upon arriving at the college.

"They located the shooter in one of the buildings," he said. "Officers engaged that suspect. There was an exchange of gunfire. The shooter threat was neutralized.

"Officers continued to sweep the campus looking for other threats. We have confirmed that there is confirmed injuries and confirmed fatalities."

The local fire district also tweeted that there were "multiple casualties" but did not elaborate. 

"It's my understanding, it's been reported there are 13 deceased, more than 20 injured," Oregon Attorney General Ellen Rosenblum said on a cable news network.

Rosenblum said she could not confirm that the shooter had been killed. Pressed on the death toll, she said "I'm getting this from the head of my criminal justice division."

A Douglas County Board Assistant said preliminary reports indicated at least 15 people were dead, according to Reuters. Oregon State Police Lt. Bill Fugate told KATU-TV at least seven are dead and 20 are injured.

Audio reportedly of responding officers radioing in to dispatch provides a glimpse into the tense moments when cops first arrived at the college.

"We're exchanging shots with him," an officer says. "He's in a classroom on the southeast side of Snider Hall. Unconfirmed report he has a long gun."

A few minutes later the officer adds: "The suspect is down."

President Obama was briefed on the shooting by Lisa Monaco, his homeland security adviser, a White House official said.

"At the president's request, he will continue to receive updates throughout the day," the official said.

The reason that I posted the, "Tweet", {something that I would never subscribe to}, is because it

 

was referencing a first person account. Everyone was asked if they were a Christian. And as always 

 

CNN is reporting in only a few hours that the shooter, "was not an international terrorist". I don't do

 

Facebook either but I imagine that his Facebook page has already been removed. However, there are reports 

 

that he was saying just last night that he was going to do something like this. 

 

AND THAT HAS ALL THE HALLMARKS OF ISLAMIST TERRORIST

 

This does not have the ring of being a false flag opp, and I don't think were ever going to find out the 

 

truth about the shooters own religion, Though that is exactly what he wanted to know about his 

 

innocent victims.

The gunman who opened fire at an Oregon community college was forcing people to stand up and state their religion before he began blasting away at them, survivors said Thursday.

A woman who claimed to have a grandmother inside a writing class in Snyder Hall, where a portion the massacre unfolded, described the scene in a tweet.

“The shooter was lining people up and asking if they were Christian,” she wrote. “If they said yes, then they were shot in the head. If they said no, or didn’t answer, they were shot in the legs. My grandma just got to my house, and she was in the room. She wasn’t shot, but she is very upset.

The Twitter user then recalled how her grandmother attempted to save the life of one of her close classmates.

“She tried to perform CPR on her friend, but it was too late,” the woman said. “I hope nothing like this ever happens again.”

Kortney Moore, an 18-year-old student at Umpqua Community College who was also in the room, told Oregon’s News Review that the shooter was indeed on the hunt for Christians.

Moments after hearing a bullet come flying through a window, she said the 20-year-old shooter made his way inside and targeted their teacher, pumping a single round into their head.

As the young man ordered people to the ground, Moore laid patiently with her classmates and waited, according to the News Review.

Once they all got down, she said the gunman began asking people to rise and say what their religion was. After they stood and gave their answer, he started shooting.

As the chaos continued, students began scrambling “like ants,” according to Brady Winder, a 23-year-old student from Portland who was in the room next door.

“People (were) screaming, ‘get out!,” he told NRToday, adding that he witnessed a girl frantically swimming across a nearby creek to escape.

Hannah Miles, another Umpqua student, was also sitting in a class room next door and said she initially heard a pop that sounded like a yardstick slapping on a chalkboard when the shooting broke out.

She said that when her class heard the noise again, her teacher went to see if everything was all right. Minutes later, shots rang out repeatedly and they all fled, leaving their belongings behind.

Jared Norman, a nursing student, was locked down in the cafeteria with 50 other students when he heard gunfire — which prompted a mass panic, he said, with his voice trembling.

UCC Foundation Executive Director Dennis O’Neill was also on campus during the shooting and said him and other school officials were running around and securing classrooms as the gunman made his way through Snyder Hall.

“We locked our door and I went out to lock up the rest rooms and could hear four shots from the front of campus,” he recalled.

Christian Bringhurst, a teacher at nearby Camas Valley Elementary School, said his daughter Justine was also on campus at time of shooting and was safely evacuated.

“It’s awful. The uncertainty of what is going on is tough to deal with,’ he explained. “We have a dozen (Camas Valley) kids going to school out there. Trying to find out who is there and make sure everybody is OK. Our hearts going out to the victims.”

At around noon, officials sent out an automated phone call to parents at Roseburg School District, which referenced the shooting and assured the school was safe.

Sometime later, students’ cell phones were confiscated and they were escorted out of their buildings with their hands up as authorities patted them down and lined them up to be evacuated on buses, according to NRToday.

Around 200 people were estimated to be waiting at the Douglas County Fairgrounds to pick up the students. Red Cross grief counselors were also on hand to provide care to anyone who needed it.

Less than six hours after the mass shooting today in Roseburg, Ore., President Obama called a press conference to demand new gun laws, a move he predicted would spur critics to accuse him of politicizing the issue. If they don’t accuse him of that, they might accuse him of making the tragedy about himself. 

During today’s 12-minute address, President Obama referred to himself 28 times. (For those counting at home, that's almost three times per minute.)

The shooter was a 26 year old named Chris Harper Mercer.

Texas passed a law allowing concealed carry permit holders to carry on college campuses...the only thing wrong with that law is it doesn't go into effect until next year 2016. Hopefully they'll move the date up.

Interesting point when related to what happened here just recently last week. An insane man HACKED TO DEATH 5 children. The weapon was mentioned 2 times in the article I read (a large kitchen knife, a knife), however, the fact that this loon had recently been seen at a PSY-Hospital was mentioned numerous times. The media here focused on his mental state and not the weapon (as SHOULD BE the case). Immediately, the hospital was questioned about what drugs he was on/given, etc. Also mentioned was his past history of "hard drug" usage.

As DM pointed out: The media isnt going to focus on the PERSON, only what they used to commit this heinous act. I bet a dollar he was using some RX drug.

A neighbor of the man who went on a deadly shooting rampage at an Oregon college, killing nine people, said he "seemed really unfriendly."

Bronte Hart lived below 26-year-old Chris Harper Mercer in the community of Winchester. She said Mercer would "sit by himself in the dark in the balcony with this little light."

Hart said a woman she believed to be Mercer's mother also lived upstairs and was "crying her eyes out" Thursday night.

Two law enforcement sources told CBS News Mercer was the man who opened fire at Umpqua Community College, killing nine people and wounding seven others.

So which is it? did he kill 20, 15 or 9 people? Come on LSM get your story strait. 

He died after exchanging gunfire with responding officers.

Law enforcement sources also told CBS News four guns -- a combination of pistols and a rifle -- were found at the scene of the shooting.

CBS Los Angeles reported Mercer had ties to the Los Angeles-area communities of Torrance and Tarzana.

Mercer's stepsister told the station he was born in England and traveled to the United States as a young boy. She said Mercer's father, who lives in Tarzana, married her mom and that the last time she spoke with Mercer was a year ago.

In Torrance, neighbors told CBS Los Angeles that Mercer lived there a few years ago and kept mostly to himself.

Witness describes deadly barrage

Posts on an online blog that appears to belong to Mercer reference multiple shootings, including one in Virginia in August that left a television news reporter and cameraman dead. The last upload on the blog was Wednesday. when a documentary about the Newtown shooting was posted.

In one post on the blog about Vester Flanagan, the man who killed the reporter and cameraman in Virginia, Mercer apparently wrote, "I have noticed that so many people like [Flanagan] are alone and unknown, yet when they spill a little blood, the whole world knows who they are. A man who was known by no one, is now known by everyone. His face splashed across every screen, his name across the lips of every person on the planet, all in the course of one day. Seems like the more people you kill, the more you're in the limelight."

An online dating profile that appears to belong to Mercer lists his hobbies and interests as "Internet, killing zombies, movies, music, reading." Under ethnicity, it says "mixed race" and his relationship status says "single -- never married."

The profile also says he is currently in college and lives with his parents, is a Republican and not religious. It also says he doesn't smoke, drink or do drugs.

One of the groups on the site that he belongs to is called "Doesn't Like Organized Religion."

A witness to the shooting, Kortney Moore, told the Roseburg News-Review newspaper that she was in a writing class when a shot came through a window.

She said the gunman entered her classroom, told people to get on the ground and then asked people to stand up and state their religion before opening fire

The family of a man suspected of going on a deadly shooting rampage at Umpqua Community College in Oregon spoke out in Tarzana Thursday night.

The suspect was identified as 26-year-old Chris Harper Mercer. Authorities say he killed nine people and injured many more before dying in a shootout with police.

"Shocked, shocked is all I can say," Ian Mercer, the suspect's father, told reporters. "Obviously it's been a devastating day, devastating for me and my family...all I ask is please respect our privacy."

The shooting happened around 10:30 a.m. at the community college campus, located about 180 miles south of Portland. The gunman fired a shot into a classroom, striking a teacher in the head, before heading into another classroom.

According to witnesses, the suspect told people to stand up and state their religion before opening fire. Nine people were killed and at least seven were injured.

The suspect's stepsister, Carmen Nesnick, also spoke out on Thursday. She said she hadn't seen him since their parents married about one year ago.

"I'm shaking right now," said Nesnick. "He meant a lot to me. He was a nice guy, and he put everyone before himself...It doesn't sound right. All he ever did was put everyone before himself. He wanted everyone to be happy."

Mercer's stepsister went on to say that the news of his death and involvement in the shooting caused her mother to break down.

While Mercer would visit his father and this part of his family in Tarzana, he lived with his mother at an apartment complex in Torrance before moving to Oregon.

On Thursday night, old neighbors at the complex painted a picture of a shy, reserved young man who was familiar with guns.

"I did see him at the time leaving his apartment and coming home with what looked like gun cases, him and his mom both, and he actually did say that he used to go shooting at some range," said David Westly.

"He wore combat boots. Very distinctly I remember black combat boots and military uniform almost," said Bryan Clay.

Mercer had profiles on several social media platforms. On Myspace, there was a photo of him posing with a rifle and several others glorifying the Irish Republican Army.

On the dating website Spiritual Passions, Mercer listed among his hobbies the Internet and killing zombies. He said he's a conservative Republican who's not religious but spiritual, and is shy at first but warms up quickly.

"He was just silent. He didn't really speak much," said Clay. "If you approached him, he kind of seemed hesitant."

Authorities said the suspect's motive for the shooting was still unclear.

I'm just waiting for the inconsistencies to paint a complete picture(first report the shooter was captured, then he exchanged fire and was killed.....first a few were killed then a whole bunch...like so many of these other shootings it just kept changing)...like Sandy Hook, or the two reporters shot on live T.V.!  I never used to think of myself as a "Conspiracy Theorist"...but lately the deck seems stacked against us and the arising NWO has to get our guns away from us somehow...hence Obummers speech!  Just sayin'!!!

Thankfully he survived, but will have to learn to walk again, after the months long healing it will take from the bullet wounds.

Army vet Chris Mintz was shot seven times as he tried to save other students during the massacre in Oregon[/url] – yet he managed a smile in his hospital bed. 
He “tried to protect some people,” his aunt Sheila Brown told NBC News. “We were told he did heroic things to protect some people.”

Mintz, 30, underwent surgery after being shot in the back, abdomen and hands, and also had two broken legs, she said.

“We’re not sure how his legs got broken,” she told the network. “He was on the wrestling team and he’s done cage-fighting so it does not surprise me that he would act heroically.”

Mintz, who is originally from Randleman, NC, served about 10 years in the Army and had just started college, Brown said.

“It was a great, great shock … We’ve all been sitting on pins and needles and praying very hard,” Brown said, adding that Mintz was “an extremely good guy.”

Chris Harper-Mercer, 26, was identified as the maniac who killed nine people and injured seven others Thursday at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg after demanding to know their religions.

He was shot dead by Douglas County sheriff’s deputies, Sheriff John Hanlin said.

Mintz’s cousin, Derek Bourgeois, told The Daily Mail that Mintz charged at the shooter.

“There was no way he was going to stand around and watch something this horrific happen,” Bourgeois said, adding that Mintz is expected to recover.
Bourgeois told the paper that he and Mintz had joined the Army together after high school.

Mintz’s aunt Wanda Mintz told Fox 8 that he could have easily died.

“I really think that if he wasn’t such a strong, young guy, he may have died,” she said.

His family said Mintz was in Oregon mainly to raise his son.

“My brother talked to Chris on the phone while Chris was walking into school to tell him to remind his grandson that Grandpa said, ‘Happy birthday,’” said Wanda Mintz.

His family remains optimistic about his chances for a full recovery.

“His vital signs are OK. He’s going to have to learn to walk again, but he walked away with his life and that’s more than so many other people did,” his cousin Ariana Earnhardt told Fox 8.

I just know that if is your time to die, I rather get it in the chest going for the gun , than in the back trying to run ! I guess nobody knows what they would really do until your survival instincts kick in. But my assessment would be if there is no cover and you might as well go for the gun.

I would also like add that if you are dealing with a shooter that has a semi auto it is possible to temporarily stop the flow of ammunition from the magazine by grabbing the firearm with your whole hand just behind the Front of the barrel. The shooter will only be able to discharge the one round , before the firearm can be put back in service the slide would have to be re cocked.
