Why do the blacks complain?

The purpose of this article is to ask simple questions dealing with fact and not emotion.  It is possible to do so and not be a racist.  I am so fed up with the term racist that I personally believe Martin Luther King would have been giving his donations to the sewer gods by now.  I believe he would be sick at the misuse of the term.  Everything is not racism.  I listen to the media and basically all I am hearing is excuses for bad behavior.  The riots of Baltimore are because the blacks are oppressed and not heard or understood.  The riots of Ferguson were because the blacks are oppressed and not heard or understood.  Excuse me but I don’t buy it!

I can hear the liberals about now going into shock at such a statement.  But as I look at the data I do not see support for their excuses.  I am tired of their excuse that whites have all the privileges.  White people are not the only race capable of racism.  Living in Chicago during the 60’s and 70’s I remember hearing about the kids being shot on the basketball court by Black Panthers simply because they were white.  I remember my brother being harassed by the black kids simply because he was the new white boy in the junior high school.  I remember the fear in his eyes when I was beginning to roam around with a group of kids at a convention in the heart of Chicago and he told me to get back to the hotel.  He knew more first hand of the kids in his school that had been shot because they were white.  I have worked in environments when I was the only ‘white’ person on the American Indian reservation and I was blamed for everything from Custer to Columbus.  All the while knowing I was more ‘Indian’ than my blonde haired blue eyed antagonist.  Everyone who has ever done anything outside their comfort zone knows harassment and racism.  It is not something especially unique to black people.

I hear how the blacks have so many problems with the educational system not bending or making things so that they are able to fit into the vernacular and traditions of the black youth.   But the school system is attempting to teach that youth the correct way to speak in a world where people are supposed to act professional.  It is such a breath of fresh air when I hear leading people in the professional black community speak out about how a black youth will never get a job as long as he wears his pants around his ankles and tries to talk like an illiterate thug. I hear the excuses for the bad behaviors of some of the black youths as a result of police bias.  Incarceration rates of blacks are at approximately 22% within the prisons while the Hispanic rates are at approximately 9%.   The blacks say that the high incarceration is because they do not have an opportunity for education, jobs, family breakdown and poverty.  The Hispanic communities have a dropout rate 32% higher than the black communities and a higher teen pregnancy rate of 42% versus 39% yet the Hispanics receive approximately 11% less federal funding and have a significantly lower incarceration rate.

It is time to strip away excuses.  It is time to strip away all the other so called reasons for bad behavior.  It is time to take away the ‘poor me’ mentality.  Over the years every race has had abuse.  People do not hear about the abuse against the Japanese or Jews in this country.  This is mainly because both of those social groups have decided they would not allow certain behaviors to identify them.  They chose to succeed.  There comes a point in time when society must look at reality and facts.  There are some black youths who choose to succeed and do so.  They are not defined by a group of peers but choose to be unique and come out from the shadows and be productive.  They do not want to be defined by either a victim mentality nor do they want to be defined by a mentality of dependency.  They see opportunities and they take them.  This is again another reason against the idea that the poor black teen is a victim of his environment and held down by the masses.  There comes a point in reality where people must begin to see that many of these black youths are held down by their own choices.  They are their own worst enemy.  They are the product of their own making.  It is not ‘the man’ or society that has trapped them into a culture that has a downward spiral but themselves.  They have become their own worst enemy.

As long as there are no negative consequences for riots, burning other people’s property, destroying other people’s businesses, or attacking authority figures such as police, this type of behavior will continue.  As long as there are the Al Sharpton’s among us who make excuses for the bad and criminal behavior under the guise of a ‘poor me’ mentality these actions will proliferate.  As long as the media will pick up the mantle of the black youth and make him or her an example of martyrdom there will never be change.  Only as the black youth takes charge of their own behaviors and situations will there ever be change in the black communities.  Only as they choose to make change will there ever be change.  The enemy of the black youth is the black youth.

sometimes it is sad that people like you have stumbled upon forums because you use it to spew forth nothing more than hate and racism.  please allow me to explain:

first let's define the word racist and then we can see if it applies:  racism - a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race .  having or showing the belief that a particular race is superior to another.

  1. You begin your soliloquy with, "The purpose of this article is to ask simple questions dealing with fact and not emotion."  when in fact, you never asked simple questions.  you stated your opinion about "blacks" their "socioeconomic" position and "excuses" for underachieving.
  2. from what i gather, you are more so using this as a way to voice your frustration of how you are "tired of their excuse that whites have all the privilege".  however you never follow through with any corroborative data against white privilege.  instead you continue on to the next opinionated statement.  what is surprising is the statistics clearly reveal that caucasian males in america are more privileged than other demographics.  is this even debatable??!  "Research found faculty in academic departments linked to more lucrative professions are more likely to discriminate against women and minorities than faculty in fields linked to less lucrative jobs." (read more).  personally i am not crying about it, it is what it is.  but i am surprised by your ignorance of the subject matter or perhaps you are aware but just don't want to hear people crying about it.  only you would know i guess...
  3. You stated in a previous thread concerning the "good and respectable black people of this country" ... "If you want to be considered different, stand out from the rest and be heard.  Otherwise, do not complain when no one seems to care about that which you may legitimately see as unjust."  here you demonize an entire group of people based ENTIRELY on race.  and yet you lie to yourself and say that you are not racist (according to our established definition).  that even if a group of people have a legitimate claim for justice, they will not be heard.  can you not see that your tone shows a superiority complex???
  4. Next you NEVER talk about the possibility that an injustice was perpetrated against a human.  you NEVER point out how the community rallied with the police force to snuff out the rioting; killing it in a day's time.  there are so many positive points to make about what is happening in baltimore, but you see none of it.  instead you start threads like "The Gimme Society" and "Why Do The Blacks Complain" and others.  it is baffling because right in your face you see blacks stepping up to support their community, but you do not see it.  there are blacks creating solutions to a problem, stepping forward and making a difference, but your hateful heart and boiling message must be spewed regardless of the good taking place.
  5. Finally you speak in such general terms that could never be addressed and what is worse is that you your references are from the media.  really?! "I listen to the media and basically all I am hearing is excuses for bad behavior."  what black people have you talked to face to face?  what black colleges have you visited?  you ever talked to students at morehouse college?  or spelman?  i highly doubt that you have with your superior tone toward black people and black youth.

keep right on spewing your aimless, solution-less, rhetoric to your own detriment.  i simply wrote this piece to help hold up a mirror to your heart so that you might see you for who you really are and perhaps God will help you to change but you must humbly and sincerely ask Him.  but as far as us black folks, we are going to go right on striving, living and loving.  where we see injustice, we will continue to challenge it.  God has helped us through some of the darkest ages of this nation and He aint done helping us prosper.  if that makes you angry and frustrated, then take it up with Him.

Thank you Trinity, appreciate your thoughts. :)

My hope is always that one day, people will learn

we are all the same, come from the same creator,

and no matter what background we come from, what

color we are, what our achievements are, what mistakes

we have made, what matters is that we are able to see

beyond the labels placed upon ourselves and others,

discard them, and treat each other in a manner that

edifies instead of tearing down.

This doesn't mean ignoring the problems we all have, it

means our goal is to help heal and mend and to walk away

from the divisive maze that has been created to hurt society.

Walk away from political correctness in all its forms that does

nothing but stifle communication and growth, reducing society

to an inability to talk, express, create, etc.

Walk away from allowing someone else to make your decisions

for you, this includes political manipulation, religious manipulation,

and financial servitude to those who think they know best. It is

nonsense. Stop accepting anothers version of life and events, and

start learning about these matters using your own heart and mind.

What is the alternative? We will continue to be lied to, and have our

thoughts and paths created for us, based upon another person or groups

version of how ones life should be. We are all the same, some just have

not accepted that yet...maybe one day when all the barriers and illusions

within our minds are torn down and we stop following what usurps our own

hearts.

I do find it interesting that while my post was condemned because it was not fluffy the content was not questioned.  Is it not true that we as people are either our own best friend or our own worst enemy?  Any group who wants to find excuses can find excuses to 'stay down'.  I refuse to accept the idea that 'the man' keeps the black youth down when there are so many good examples of blacks who have gone forward.  If people cannot succeed it is because of their choices and not another person's making.

condemned, no.  you believe what you want to believe, it is your right.  no, you did not ask questions but instead gave your opinion.  there is a difference between a statement and creative dialogue.  your post did not open a door for constructive dialogue, but it is your post so do as you will with it.  a staple of your shared opinion was based on the riots taking place in baltimore and how "animals" of the "gimme society" destroyed property.  you however never voiced appreciation for the immediate 180deg correction to the problem by the black community.  you can't notice them because they are positive.  you only see the negative and use it to spew your rhetoric.  you never mentioned how the riots were quelled, how the community protected the police force, how protesting is constitutional and how the protesters marched for justice not a hand out.  those positive things are not in you concerning black people.

it is what it is and you are who you are.  take care and enjoy your thread.

Trinity...do not not agree that a person makes their own choices in life?  Do you not agree that the only one who has the power to keep anyone down is themself?  Do you not agree that there are other groups or races who statistically would be viewed as 'worse off' yet are not seen doing the things of Ferguson and Baltimore?  If these things are true then there is the points for discussion.  If these things are true then the condemnation of the media as the source for their persecution should be noted and not those who shine the light there upon.  Did I ever once say ALL BLACK PEOPLE ARE BAD??  I dare not that I ever made nor would make such a statement.  Yet, I am the racist because I dare to say that the main problem of the black youth is the black youth themselves and not external sources.  I do not see how anyone truly could object to these questions.  Yes these are statements but are also logical questions which are also poised by the statements.

Bohica... you're too intellectually honest and mired in compassionate common sense objective reasoning and clarity!

The liberal ilk will never allow your reasoning to flourish in their kumbaya world... there must be more victims in order to feed the collective!  Individuals only count when they're victimized... not when they succeed.

Carry on!  :tiphat:

It is really an interesting study in sociology as to how if a person does not blame an old issue of slavery for the ills of the black youth of today and puts the responsibility for their actions and the blame for their condition squarely upon their shoulders that you are either racist or a Klan member.

The world I live in is reality...which has evolved from an elementary state of dependency. I take responsibilities for my action and expect the same from other responsible adults...When a person of an adult age is not responsible for their actions they become counter-productive to justice...It's the justice that most people have a problem in dealin' with the facts...Forget the money...It's spent...How much ''Time'' is enough until somebody realizes the obvious...

Media hype is the biggest cause of Black unawareness .

It shows day after day the big storys going on in the big inner city`s.

The one post goes on and on about the black youth.

Dude quit watching the tube. What your seeing is not black america.

In the small rual towns all over the country their are hundreds of thousands of hard

working blacks raising their family's. People are using the big inner citys like chicago

New York , Baltimore as some kind of barometer  to judge the black youth in this country.

Its just not the way it is man.

I know to many black folk and im telling you you are being brainwashed in to thinking what you see on the tube is

a reflection of what black people are.

My god cant you people think for yourself

Fricking pathetic

Dog... you are correct, as individuals should be judged!  BUT... there is no denying that in urban/city environments... the "collective" dynamic is magnified.  Just too many like-minded people coexisting in a extremely populous area... feeding a codependent society, versus a individualistic one.  Hence, a "tribal" mentality manifests for "survival" and "self-preservation"... which is universally respected in civil societies around the world, but unfortunately stifles individual growth, independence, initiative, etc.   THAT dynamic is also reflected in the politics of the Electoral College, in voting tendencies.  Lots of followers... fewer leaders.  Go West, young man.   Individuals find their own way... That's what I cheer for.

I do agree with you Jax.

The urban environment breeds rats .

There is no question about that.

But what I have seen with my own eyes tells me that

home land urban america does not .

So Prof what would you call the biological entities that

Violently burned and attacked people in Baltimore?

And what would you call a leader who incites violent

hatred by continuously pointing out the differences between

everyone? If you want to promote peace and unity, you point

to peoples similarities.

hello LGD my friend.  always a pleasure communicating with you :)

firstly, i call the biological entities that violently burned and attacked people in baltimore, criminals.  their horrendous acts are unacceptable and detestable.  ask any law abiding citizen this question (black, white or indigo) and you most likely will receive the same answer.  in EVERY discussion i have had with black people concerning these types of acts always leaves us quizzically pondering, "why the heck are these idiots destroying their own neighborhood?!"  none of us can ever figure it out, and we are black!  therefore it cannot be a black people problem but should probably be denoted an ignorance problem.  and so it becomes very offensive when me and my family who are God fearing, law abiding, degree attaining, career professional, and loving get grouped in with idiots like these by melanin association.

hence,it is unacceptable and a superior tone when someone tells me that me and all of my family, friends and associates will lack "voice" so long as we share melanin association with criminals.  that type of superior tone is racism.

to answer your question about leaders who incite hate and violent, i disagree with their philosophy and that goes for black, white, hispanic, etc leaders who do it.  i follow the teachings of Jesus Christ who never promoted eye for an eye or violence as a means of bringing about a good end to any problem.  HOWEVER, leaders who teach violence is not the same as those teaching peaceful protest against perceived injustice.  i believe the constitution was founded on the premise that societal authority should be kept in line by peaceful critique of the people.  when people feel that an injustice has been served, it is their constitutional right to protest it.  this is what makes america great.

i do not agree that peace is only promoted by agreeing on similarities.  i believe peace is also promoted by refusing to accept injustice and inequality.  my statement is supported by a universal maximum of law, "he who does not assert his rights has none."  in other words, no injustice has been dealt where there is no protest of an offense.  those ignorant of law typically don't understand this maximum and will unfortunately demonize those who do.

i hope that helps clarify my opinion.  thanks for asking bro.

Funny thing is, I still cannot figure out what your objection to my post is or what your point was in your objection.  All I was saying was that they determine their own fate by their choices and not any one else or any thing else.
