The war on terrorism began in the era of US President George W. Bush in response to the September 11 attacks, and represented the first blow in a military operation in Afghanistan in order to eliminate Osama bin Laden, followed by the Iraq war, Bush demanded a budget of $ 20. 8 billion dollars to wage this war in 2001 next to another $ 13 billion to enhance the security of military bases. In 2003, Bush launched the war on Iraq at a cost of $ 53 billion, however, that the war exacerbated the cost of about 75. 9 billion.

The increased cost of the war in Afghanistan to 20. $ 1 billion through 2005 to protect Afghanistan from Taliban attacks, while spending rose to fight terrorism in Iraq to 85. 5 billion to 101. $ 6 billion in 2006. By 2008 and rising violence in Afghanistan, increased the fight against terrorism to 43 budget. $ 5 billion, while achieved a new record in Iraq to 142. $ 1 billion. It is noteworthy that the Iraq war lasted longer than the Vietnam War, where he received the 4488 American soldiers have died with about 32 226 others injured. It also has been spending about $ 700 billion on this war alone.

The real cost of the war against terrorism is not what you add to the public debt, but those lost jobs that it was possible for these funds be provided, offering every billion dollars is spent on defense operations, about 8555 jobs and add about $ 565 million to the economy of America. Also, every billion dollars will be presented to the public in the form of tax cuts, provides an application enough to provide 10 779 jobs, while all adds billion is spent on education, $ 1.3 billion for the economy.

The costs of the war on terror does not stop at the end of the wars, especially in light of the commitments made by the United States of medical costs for the treatment and survival of veterans of more than a trillion dollars and probably extends for a period ranging between 30 to 40 years. While military spending helps to provide some jobs, it is possible that more jobs are available in the case of spending money in other sectors. And affect spending on military operations, to invest in public assets and infrastructure.

See Professor John Miller, a specialist in international relations, that the world needed to thwart a terrorist attack in 1667 about a year, with the assumption that they are successful, so that the current spending level feasible. Human nature and the fear of death caused by violence, so maybe that protect the lives of people from terrorism is more important than protecting them from other forms of death. In this sense, beyond what America spends in the fight against terrorism, the total they spend on other types of violence.

In America, the average deaths from terrorism 4.6 per person per year, compared with deaths from other causes such as, cardiogenic shock at about 685 941 and more than 68 827 as a result of pneumonia and colds. The total increase in spending on the fight against terrorism in America, $ 350 billion annually, Tgi 275 billion, of which, from the federal budget. With these numbers in mind, America spends at the present time, about $ 400 million a year for each victim of the fight against terrorism.

In addition to international aid, the United States is to provide the necessary money for the fight against terrorism through increased taxes or selling war bonds. Payment for the wars and the existing cross-borrowing is almost entirely, something that has led to a rise in the US budget deficit to increase the national debt, along with the negative macroeconomic effects such as rising interest rates. And interest rates amounted to Pentagon spending alone in the period between 2011 to 2013, about $ 316 billion. America and increased the rate of spending on internal security as a result of the war on terrorism, by about $ 470 billion.

While the volume of investments in infrastructure over the military, can not for investments in public infrastructure, the same pace of growth. The White House asked Congress last April, the budget allocation for the National Security Program for fiscal year 2014 of $ 48.2 billion dollars, in addition to the security of the Pentagon budget by about 14. 6 billion. And in 2010 achieved the highest number of financial security budget when Congress has appropriated about $ 1 billion, 80..

The report estimates the cost of the September 11 attacks on the US economy about $ 80 billion, or the equivalent of 8% of domestic product (GDP) of the country at that time. The cost of the fight against terrorism in the US aviation sector also rose during the past year alone, by 25% to $ 7.4 billion, compared with the annual profits of the industrial sector amounting to 8.6 billion dollars. In general, the total funds that have been spent in the external emergency operations in both Iraq and Afghanistan in the period between 2001 to 2014 amounted to about 1,492 trillion dollars.

When I was searching for a loan to purchase my house, I could take out a loan for 15 years, 20 years, or 30 years.  I could go for the long term, the monthly payment would be less and it wouldn't be a strain on the budget.  But when I looked at how much I would be paying over the years, I got knots in my stomach!  Man, that would be an expensive house!!!  Now if I opted for the short term, the payments might be a little more, but in the end my house was a lot less expensive.  If I had the money, I could double my payments and the cost was WAY DOWN.!!

My analogy is this.  If we are going in to police a conflict and not going in to win and get it over with quickly, then the protracted costs in money and lives will increase exponentially.  The quicker we move to WIN, the less it will be.  We NEVER want to be in a war that we CANNOT WIN or that we DO NOT INTEND TO WIN.  We should get in and get out!!  We have the capability in money, method, manpower, and machinery to get the job done quickly.  But we mess around and and it costs us plenty.   JMO
