The officials said in an interview with a group of journalists at the headquarters of U.S. Central Command in Florida: "We have seen that they (the Iraqis) have begun to work like a real army." They said Iraqi forces are not ready at the moment to launch big counter-attacks, at the same time, they pointing out that the Iraqi army has recently managed to regain some of the territories that were controlled by the Islamic State organization in Salahuddin province. They said that organizing and training Iraqi forces will take a period of not less than several months. The American officials said that the Iraqi army needs a lot of help in the "basic things" such as repair of military equipment, planning for combat operations and the use of intelligence in the battle for the restoration of the combat strength. Officials attributed the slow progress of the Iraqi forces in the liberation of the city of Baiji to the bad weather and the process of scanning the roads of explosives and dismantling IEDs.
