Middle East Online Seemingly unstoppable violence and bloodshed BAGHDAD - Acts of violence across Iraq killed at least 1,119 people last month, according to UN figures released Wednesday excluding the restive western province of Anbar and casualties among jihadists. The United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) said at least 854 civilians and 265 members of the security forces were killed in September, and close to 2,000 injured. The figure was lower than in July and August (1,737 and 1,420 respectively) but the UN stressed that it excluded Anbar province. The western region saw some of the worst violence in September, including attacks by jihadist-led militants on army bases which are feared to have left hundreds dead. Many deaths are believed to go unreported and hundreds of people are still considered missing across the country. UNAMI also said it was unable to account for those who died of causes related to the violence, including the displaced who have perished from lack of access to water, food or medication. http://www.middle-east-online.com/english/?id=68289
