From Dinar Land : The long waited air campaign against ISIL headquarters in Syria finally materialized  with the backing of 5 regional countries which mainly are Sunnis.  Vietnam1969 said ISIL was expecting the strike but not to the extent of severity, there was still an element of surprise.  Pentagon said airstrikes were precise in order to avoid civilian casualties.  The airstrikes will continue but the intensity will be less as ISIL expected to use civilians as human shields and try to hide their military hardware.  The strikes will have resounding impact  on ISIL and their supporters.  The strikes were welcome by Iraqi security forces and Kurdistan peshmerga, boosting their morale to continue to fight ISIL.  US has conducted 200 airstrikes in Iraq but not defeating ISIL yet.

Extrememarine59 said US airstrikes in Syria killed estimated tens and maybe hundreds of terrorists. Airstrikes were conducted on a group known as Khorasan, an al qaeda affiliate who publicly threatened to kill Americans and other Westerners.

“Government Reform” is a phrase being heard from the main street to government officials and representatives.  Corruption is deeply engraved and bribery is a way of life  in every level of society from top to bottom which are not unusual in Middle East or emerging economies but corruption carries its dangerous side effects such as awarding a project to the wrong people or companies that may hurt the development of infrastructure.  In democracy when people are caught in corruption, they are brought to justice in a spectacular and transparent way. That is why it’s gaining momentum in Iraqi government.  A politician who remains anonymous said it may take years to make a dent but you have to start somewhere.

The building of infrastructure in Iraq is going regardless of security issue according to its five year plan for 2013-2017.  Some plans will be revised in according to the situation currently in the areas.  Funding is and will always be available for housing projects as it is the cornerstone of economy in the coming stages and provides employment to hundreds of thousands of Iraqis on a continuous basis.

As far as the air strikes in Syria goes, well I think we just poked a stick into a hornet's nest. Obama has waited to long to get started on this and IMO this will come back and bite us in the azz.  The file was great this week and you have had your hands full with keeping up with all that has happened.     Keep up the good work Nadita.  :bravo:

It's a catch 22 ... five Arab countries - majority is Sunni agreed to coalition is big and now Turkey said they would open for military and logistics.. Just waiting for the first western country to say yes.  I think the world see ISIS as a threat and also the barbarism is a bit much for anyone with a heart to tolerate. Iran is saying if ISIS comes closer to their border they will go and kick their behind. In a way, ISIS will be pushed from all sides.  Saudi is not going to let ISIS tears down Mecca and Medina, neither any Arab countries because it's their holy cities and Kabah is the symbol of Islam. If anything happens to it, where will the pilgrims go once a year?

Thanks Nadita for another master spin. As far as the air strikes go we need to hit serious targets unannounced. These of late are like throwing a deck chair off the Titanic. Just my opinion.

Capt :)

I agree but I think ISIL underestimated the airstrikes.  They didn't think there will be 5 Arab countries joining the airstrikes and from what it sounded like we did quite a damage to their camps and casualties too.  Until we get the briefing in a few days.. we don't know

If I tell you I am going to bomb your headquarters any person with a smidgen of a brain would vacate the premises. Doesn't matter which country drops the bomb. The political posturing has got to stop.

Glad that our Prez finally did the right thing. He's NOT an attacking type of leader, at heart. I'm sure he is fearful

of having to give back his Nobel Peace Prize!!  HOPE all the good warriors stay safe!....... :praying:

You shed a light :)  I never thought of that.. because one is a leader is not necessarily a warrior.  I think he is fed up with being ridiculed, finally he said "scramble you" :)

I just love the way almost all Arab countries say they are against ISIS but only a few actually do anything! Talk is cheap!

I understand countries like Kuwait do not have the armed forces to assist, but their king as tons of $$$$$$$ so financing the war effort would mean alot! Why does America have to go further in debt when we are fighting what is primarily their war? Money is like sand in the Middle East, there is plenty of it!!!!!!

I also understand why Israel has to stay out of this conflict because they are hated by all Arab countries!

Thanks for the down low Nadita... There is so much going on, its like trying to swat mosquitoes in a swarm....

The current engagememt is so exquisitely convoluted it barely made sense, though I think when you introduce the extremist Khorasan group and their threat to the US, it puts things in perspective... I'm pretty sure more will be coming out in the next day or so... But the short of it is.... We were following them, they were targeting the US and Europe, they went dark and there was enough of a viable concern that we had to go after where we thought they might be.... We did get a Post Office in Syria today... it was one of those wry dark humor moments... As it turns out, its likely there were waskly wabbits in there as well... :peace:  ....
