Ukraine Crisis : A-J516 reported Pres. Obama to meet with Ukraine’s president at the White House today.  Pres. Poroshenko is seeking more US military aid to fight pro Russian separatists.

 

Fighting ISIS : Captl1 heard House votes to authorize Pentagon to train and arm moderate Syrian rebels to fight ISIS militants.  Senate expected to vote on measure today.

 

Boosterbglee nodded in agreement  as Iran says it will not help the US fight ISIS militants.  Iranian FM saying Iran doubts the US is willing to respond seriously to the ISIS terror threat across the board.  Iranian FM Mohammad Javad Zarif also saying the US needs to rethink its strategy to eradicate the terror organization.  Iran was not invited to participate in a global counter terrorism conference in Paris on Monday.

 

Saint heard Iraqi PM says his government will not allow US or other nations to send troops into Iraq to fight the ISIS organization.  Haider al Abadi says the only contributions the US military or coalition partners are going to help Iraq is from the sky.  Iraq’s new PM also says the Iraqi military will choose and approve targets for US airstrikes and that the US will not take any action without first consulting Baghdad.

 

Other News : ReinMan read Australian police detain 15 people in major counterterrorism operation.  800 fed and state police officers raided more than a dozen properties in the cities of Sydney, Brisbane, and Logan.  Police says they believe the people detained have been planning a terror attack to behead random people on Australian soil.  Officials say the beheadings were intended to be videotaped.

 

Calkid11 is anxious to hear about the vote in Scotland.  Turnout is expected to be high today as Scottish voters decide whether to remain in the UK.  Polls suggest the result is too close to call. 4.2M Scots registered to vote, 97% of eligible voters. Voters as young as 16 are able to vote for Scottish independence.  Polls in Scotland open from 7Am to 10PM.  First Scottish poll results will be released at 2AM local time (9PM ET). 

 

Vicioucdoggie suspected  North Sea oil revenues is key issue in Scottish independence debate.  UK produces 75% of EU’s offshore oil production.  EU Commission says 90% of EU ‘s offshore oil production is from Scottish waters.  Scottish government says Scottish oil contributes to $39.5B to UK economy.  Scottish oil production peaked in 1999 at 4.6M bpd. Scottish oil production today only 1.45M bpd.  Expert says Scottish oil production will fall to 1M bpd in 2030.

 

Chess agreed 19 year old CO woman who pleaded guilty to conspiring to provide material support to ISIS will remain in jail before her sentencing.  Fed judge denied Shannon Conley’s request to be freed on bond until her January sentencing, saying Conley failed to prove she would not pose danger to the community.  Conley was arrested April 8th at Denver airport after FBI agents learned of her plan to train ISIS  terrorists in Syria.

 

Gymrat76541 shakes his head to hear Arizona Cardinals running back Jonathan Dwyer arrested on aggravated assault charges on  Wednesday.  Arrest is in connection with two altercations at Dwyer’s home in late July involving a 27 year old woman and an 18 month old child.  The Arizona Cardinal says they are cooperating with the investigation and have deactivated Dwyer from all team activities.  Dwyer’s arrest is the latest in a string of domestic violence cases involving NFL players.  What’s wrong with these players? Do they think because of their fame, they can be excused for their abusive behavior?  Wake up, guys.. the law is the law and you are not above the law because you play football in NFL.

 

Okane agrees with PepsiCo CEO Indra Nooyi says violence is casting a cloud over the NFL’s integrity.  Bose and USAA have voiced their concerns about recent player conduct.  Target removes all items featuring RB Adrian Peterson from its stores.  Target to hire 70,000 seasonal  workers for this year’s holiday season, about same as last year.  

 

House decided to keep the lights on by passing stop-gap measure to fund the US government through December 11th.  Will avert a possible shutdown on October 1st.  House also passes bill to extend authority of US ex-im Bank by 9 months.  Boeing says short term extension leaves US exporters in limbo.

 

Senate reported hackers associated with Chinese government infiltrated computer systems of US airlines, technology companies.  The hacked contractors were involved with movement of US troops and military equipment.  Edward Snowden leaks created “perfect storm”. It degraded intelligence community’s capabilities.

 

Remnants of hurricane Odile slammed much of southern Arizona last night.   Storm is the second hurricane related front to hit the region the past two weeks.  Littlesam is glad she is not in Mexican resort town of Los Cabos without power or water for 4th day.

 

California governor Jerry Brown has declared a state of emergency because of a major wildfire.  More than 2,000 homes in northern California threatened.  Fire burning 60 miles east of Sacramento, has scorched nearly 111 sqmi.  Fire is only 5% contained.  2,500 firefighters battling the blaze.

 

Dow gained 109 points at trading today.  Gold closed at #1,226, silver at $18.53, copper at $3.09, and crude oil at $93.06.

Dupont (DD) is upgraded to overweight from neutral at JPMorgan.  Monsanto (MON) is upgraded to buy from hold at Stifel. Kohl’s is also upgraded to buy from neutral at Citi, cites improved product mix.  Boeing (BA) added to franchise picks list, maintained a buy rating at Jefferies.

 

Alibaba priced its IPO at $68/share and start trading on NYSE on Friday.  Alibaba’s market cap projected to be over $160B.  It would be 8th largest market cap in S&P tech sector.  Market cap would be equivalent to 4 Yahoos.  Survey says 61% of people will not buy Alibaba tomorrow.

 

Apple CEO Tim Cook says, “firm does not seek to monetize the information you store on your iPhone and iCloud.  And we don’t read your email or your messages to get information to market to you.  Our software and services are designed to make our devices better.  Plain and simple”.  He adds Apple won’t give any government agency access to its servers.  Apple finds bug in healthkit, delaying availability of app on iOS8.  New software iOS8 makes complying with government information requests and warrants impossible.  China approves new iPhones for use, but Apple still needs one more license.

 

Amazon unveils $100 Kindle Fire, $200 Kindle Voyage, $379 Kindle Fire HDX tablets.  Amazon also unveils kid-friendly Kindle tablet, with subscription for special content.

 

CFPB proposing tougher scrutiny of non bank auto lenders.  Agency cites concerns about how they market car loans, collect on debts.  Visa is exploring options for its investment in British mobile payment company Monitise, holds 5.5% stake.

 

Wiljor thinks it’s a good idea to buy Vivus J (VVUS) as FDA approves its new erectile dysfunction drug Stendra.  New Vivus ED drug cuts in half the time patients need to take the pill before engaging in sexual activity.  The stock gained 12%, closed at $4.36.  

 

Microsoft announces it will close its Silicon Valley R&D operation as part of 2,100 layoffs.  It’s new CEO’s goal of cutting 18,000 staff, or about 14% of its workforce.

 

Toyota Motor recalling 20,000 autos for possible fuel leaks : 2015 Lexus RX, 2014 Avalon, Camry, Highlander, and Sienna.  

 

Credit Suisse says liquidation is best strategy for Sears (SHLD) shareholders, operating taking away $10 a share in value each year.

 

Tankdude can’t believe what he read, America created 600,000 new millionaires last year.  Fastest growth since early 1990s.  Many come from oil states.  Dallas has fastest growth in millionaires, Houston second.  NY is still millionaire capital.  894,000 millionaires with $3.2 trillion in wealth.

 

Last but not least J, 3 most powerful women voted by Fortune Magazine are : 1) IBM CEO – Ginni Rometty, 2)  GM CEO – Mary Barra, 3) PepsiCo CEO – Indra Nooyi.  Women still rule J

 

From Dinar Land : Vietnam1969 reported high ranking ISIL leader accused of overseeing the sale of Yazidis women was killed in Nineveh Province and he won’t be missed.  ISIL has become more sophisticated in their recruit of radicals, fanatics, misfits, and criminals under the name of Islam.  Their tactic of barbarism has instilled fear in the hearts of millions of people which by far exceeded any organized crime.  Experts say it is working but short lived as all people including Sunnis shy away from being associated with them.  Kurdish peshmerga also reported to find 40 ISIL killed by airstrikes which also destroyed a dozen of their vehicles.  

 

VP Allawi says in interview that American airstrikes are succeeding in containing the ISIL but ground troops will be needed to completely remove ISIL from Iraqi soil. He added Russia can play a constructive role in the fight against ISIL as they have crucial and substantial intelligence about the organization.

 

Kurds in northern Syria called for other Kurdish fighters to join the fight against ISIL.  PKK fighters who are labeled as terrorists in Turkey for fighting for independence also knows for their resilience.  France said it will join the fight against ISIL but will not send ground troops to fight them in Syria.  Syrian air force conducted airstrikes in north and northeast borders near Iraq and Turkey resulted in scores of casualties in ISIL camp.

 

PM Abadi says he will not be rushed into naming candidates to fill the security position before thorough consultations with all blocs.  He added he wants to avoid his nominees rejected unnecessarily by parliament.   The list of candidates is not short, according to a source close to Abadi.  Some politicians suggested naming an independent with no party affiliation for the Minister of Interior position. 

 

Oil Ministry reported oil production and exploration for August reached 73.6M barrels and generated $7.17B revenue.  The average selling price is $97.45 per barrel. KRG said its oil exports generated about $1B during the first nine months of 2014 which barely enough to maintain the region.  Kurdish politicians say they will give PM Abadi three months to prove his intentions towards the region.  Turkey said it will cooperate with KRG to export oil through Ceyhan port which can hold more than 3M barrels.

 

Ministry of Electricity says its plans to add more power plants across the country are still in place.  The aim to generate 30,000 megawatts within the next few years remains unchanged despite the security issue.  Ministry of Public Works says all roads, bridges, overpasses within 20 KM radius of central Baghdad are being repaired and maintained by extra crew working overtime.

 

Ministry of Trade says trades with Iran, Kuwait, UAE and Saudi Arabia have increased.  Trade with Turkey, Jordan, and Syria decreased due to ISIL control highways.

 

Uneek read regional and international experts in economics said Iraq will no doubt stand on its feet again financially soon.  They said the resources are there and the will of the people fighting terrorism will prevail.

 

From Rumor Land : TNT Tony says this whole thing will come to a conclusion really quickly.  TerryK says that you can exchange with any banks and dealer and don’t let your money leave your side to strangers J Poppy3 says there is no ISIS within 50 miles of Baghdad.  DC says parliament has been in meeting and all ministers are seated and done.  Iraq is ready, waiting on CBI to do their thing.  Pepperoni on pizza says he wouldn’t go so far to say HCL is about to be done but HCL is much more than just how to export Kurdistan oil.  Nonetheless, it’s a good step.

Ha... if they know what express means.. the pony will be faster than the camels lol...  I don't see Iraqi government in a hurry to oust them from their backyard too...  I guess if you live in that situation, nothing phase you anymore :)

Actually I think the NFL is just a group that is being singled out, but the child abuse or parents punishment of their child is the real issue here! The bleeding heart liberals want to tell all parents a "time out" is the way to discipline their children but I was raised & raised my children by the "swat the butt" method which many children require! I see nothing wrong with allowing each parent to decide how they wish to raise their children! As long as it is done in moderation of course! I wish more parents would swat some butt when out in public!

I see zero reason why America should do anything, take any action for or against Ukraine! This is Russia's problem and is the responsibility of the United Nations! America and Europe have already done enough by placing sanctions against the aggressive nation (Russia). Now is the time to sit back & observe the situation! We would be a fool to get further involved! :(

Good morning Nadita,

I have been busy lately and running a little behind on catching up on the days events here on DV and by the look of things you as well have been very busy. Lots of action going on around the world these days and as always you are right there bringing us current on global activities. Thanks a lot Nadita for your continued and much awaited contributions to us here, I love your spin and look forward to the rapid fire approach that you have patented so well.
