Friday News Summaries and Commentaries

Urgent .. Abadi: We will hold an open meeting for reporters to talk about the government's mistakes

This is certainly something new from Iraq....opening up to the news media in this fashion and admitting to prior mistakes....wow....this should prove to be interesting to say the least.

Finance parliamentary calls for the government not to merge Almoisntin for [2014.2015]

Still more talk about NOT merging the 2014 budget with that of 2015....probably a wise idea.....even as the last few months of 2014 grind down.....the interim committee on Finance continues to study and work with things....when will they present anything worthwhile to Parliament....maybe on the 16th.
....
Religious authority demanded the Kurdistan Regional Government interrelatedness with the central government to build a strong Iraq

Iraqi religious authority is basically calling upon the KRG to pull together with the Baghdad state government to build a stronger Iraq....stop the bickering and mend the cracks that have broken between the two groups....noting that all areas face grave security issues and it will take a united effort with a dedicated front to stop the terrorist activities that burden Iraq today....at this point it is unclear as to how well the KRG will listen to the religious figures concerning their ongoing issues and demands with Baghdad.

Saudi Arabia may reopen its embassy in Baghdad

The Saudi's are coming back....the Saudi's are coming back.....maybe.....their embassy in Baghdad has been closed since 1990, but may soon reopen in a show of good faith efforts being revitalized between both countries.

Political analyst: Maliki's appointment as vice president saved him from prosecution

Even though Maliki has lost his power and might as PM, his appointment as Vice President under President Massoum pretty much gives him immunity, at least for the time being.....until someone figures a way to get at him....remember that Maliki made a run at one of his own VP's who then went into asylum outside of Iraq....Hashemi I believe....what is to say the same results could fall upon Maliki's head too.....but he has plenty of money and plenty of places to hide. Maliki tried to set up many of his own supporters in various areas of government in his final days but it is believed those appointments will largely be overturned....he does not need to have those kinds of clutches within the new government.

Will the New Oil Minister in Baghdad Break the Deadlock with Erbil?

The new Oil Minister in Iraq Mahdi could very well do what his predecessors failed at doing.....completing the HCL and establishing an agreement with the Kurds that is agreeable by all parties....he has an ongoing good relationship with the Kurds, something that was promised to the Kurds to get their participation in the new government....he has a big task ahead of him, and it not only deals with the Kurds but also many major oil companies on the international level who have grown intolerant of the bureaucratic mess these oil companies have discovered to exist in Iraq....he certainly understands the financial scope of things that happens within the oil and gas arena in Iraq....and is well experienced in negotiations.

Who do Iraq's disputed territories belong to? 'The land is for those who liberate it'

Speculation has it that the disputed areas of Iraq that have fallen into ISIS hand recently and has since been liberated by the Kurds may likely remain in the hands of the Kurds at least for the short term.....to the victor goes the spoils so to speak...we may see ongoing negotiations on this matter for quite some time but the good of all this is the removal of the terrorist forces and the Peshmerga and Kurds in general deserve to retain some of what they have recaptured for their valiant efforts in standing up to the terrorists when the Iraqi Army all but folded before any skirmishes took place.

Reservation Kurdish Peshmerga forces to integrate the National Guard

With the suggestion coming from PM Abadi about National Guard type or style of troops to be established and trained within each province, the Kurds are pushing back on this concept and seem to be insisting on a national security force that is evolved off of their own image, the Peshmerga....this is the opinion of one Kurd MP....it will remain to be seen how this plays out with a final decision from all the Kurds....they have to remember too their commitment to help build a strong new unified government.....this becomes a much bigger chess game than just...me...me...me.

Jaafari after participating in a conference Jeddah: Saudi Arabia will open its embassy in Baghdad

After attending a conference regarding combatting of terrorism in the ME, the new Foreign Minister Jaafari confirmed that he had been told by Saudi representatives of their interest to re-open their embassy again in Baghdad....a good sign of positive interaction with neighbors in the area.

Abadi apologizes for participating in the Paris Conference due to provide defense and interior ministers to parliament next week

Wow...In my opinion....Abadi has nothing to be apologizing about.....he's doing what would be expected of him....but yes he does need to be prepared to put forth the two names for Defense and Interior Ministers...sounds like he is carrying those around in his pocket right now.

Parliament urges the government to send its observations on the draft budget

Forget the previous government....they are dust.....sure if you can get an opinion out of the new government in a timely fashion...pursue it...but don't be waiting on them to make decisions if you expect to make hamburgers out of this 2014 budget....the grill can only heated for so much longer before it has to be closed for cleaning.....don't wait too long or opportunities will be missed.

Infallible: Saudi Arabia and Iran are invited to the Paris conference .. The President of the Republic does not need only one deputy

An odd article to say the least....talking about two wholly different topics...the talks in Paris regarding how to deal with DAASH...and then off the wall President Masum speaking out about the need or lack there of for three Vice Presidents.....he appears to be in favor of only one....but it is believed the law took into affect the balance between the major blocks in offering three VP's....he also spoke of the need for the death penalty for some crimes and proclaimed that he would study each case and would be swift to ensure a decision was rendered in proper fashion only after the necessary judiciary steps had been followed....this might make Maliki a little bit nervous I bet.

Document: Jubouri Ebadi offers a compromise candidate for the defense

Now Jubouri and Abadi are offering a compromise candidate for Defense Ministry.....Mahmoud Badr.....former governor of Salahaddin.....he seems to be a fair and efficient individual according to an assessment by Jubouri....meanwhile they are sticking with Araji for the position of Interior Minister.

A quick summary of news for this Friday Morning. Randy
