Ukraine Crisis : Umbertino reporting live from Minsk.  Officials from both sides say Ukraine signed a cease-fire on Friday with pro Russia rebels.  First step towards ending 5 month conflict that killed at least 2,000.  Ukraine Pres. Poroshenko says preliminary protocol on cease-fire signed, takes effect today.  Pro Russia rebels tweet cease-fire deal signed.  OSCE mediator confirms cease-fire deal signed in Minsk.  It takes affect at 18:00 local time Friday.  Russian financial assets remain in focus as EU, US warn of potential new sanctions.

 

NATO Summit : Jetpilotjim was in the meeting when NATO members approve plans to establish a rapid response force in eastern Europe.  Aim is to deter further Russian aggression in region.  Agreement allows NATO countries to position troops and equipment in Eastern Europe.  They could quickly mobilize if NATO country comes under attack.  Pres. Obama and British PM Cameron press NATO leaders to confront ISIS.  Trying to form coalition to combat extremists with military power and economic penalties.

 

Pres. Obama News Conf : Thriver reported Pres. Obama says Russia’s aggression threatens a free Europe.  All NATO members will contribute to all defense actions and will increase defense spending.  Increase presence serves as deterrent to Russian aggression. NATO recognizes need to take action against Islamic state. Sustained action is needed against Islamic militants.  No US ground troops in areas of conflict in Syria. An attack against one NATO member is an attack against all.

 

Breaking News : Rodandstaff can’t believe when he hears FAA says unresponsive plane crashed into ocean north of Jamaica. FAA added plane had not responded since 10:00AM EST.  Coast guard received word of missing plane at 11:00AM EST. Air force stopped following plane as it approached Cuban airspace.  Norad says unresponsive plane was headed to Naples, Florida.  Officials say pilot was“unconscious and slumped over” in unresponsive plane.  Son of Larry and Jane Glazer confirms his parents were only two on the plane.  Our prayers go to Glazer family in this difficult time.  May God give them peace and cover them with His grace.

 

Other News : Fed’s Powell says labor market still has slack.  Fed could move sooner on continued job gains.  Fed’s Kochenlakota says interest rates not low enough, inflation subdued.  Fed’s Fisher says doubt inflation has cooled, despite signs of decline.  He adds some data hints at underlying inflationary pressure.

 

Saint heard Gov. Marry Fallin wants new procedures to improve state’s execution process.  Still believes death penalty is just, but must be carried out effectively.  Lawyer for ex Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell plans to appeal corruption conviction.  McDonnell and his wife Maureen convicted on 20 of 26 counts.

 

Top Republican on Senate Armed Services panel pushing to give Pres. Obama authority to use all necessary force against ISIS.  Sen. Jim Inhofe drafts resolution to authorize military force.  Wants bipartisan support when congress returns next week.

 

A-J516 heard Pentagon confirms Ahmed Godane, leader of Somalia based terrorist group al-Shabaab was killed.  US carried out drone strike Monday.

 

51 year old Dr. Rick Sacra infected with Ebola in Liberia being flown to Nebraska for treatment. He will be treated in special isolation unit. 

 

Chess attended a memorial for Slain journalist Steven Sotloff today at public service at a South Florida temple.  He was beheaded by ISIS militants. 

 

Lufthansa pilots stage six hour strike.  Hundreds of short haul flights cancelled, mostly to and from Frankfurt.

 

Littlesam is happy to hear tributes pouring in for Joan Rivers, who died yesterday at age 81.  Amy Poehler says every woman in comedy is “indebted” to Joan Rivers. 

 

NY police launching pilot program to test cameras worn by officers.  Push for cameras on cops follows police shooting of unarmed black teen in Ferguson, MO. 

 

Hurricane Norbert headed up Mexico’s Pacific coast for a brush with Los Cabos resorts.  Expected to stay offshore, but schools and beaches are closed.

 

On lighter side, Ariana Grande’s “My Everything” is Billboard’s top album.  Brad Paisley’s “Moonshine in the Trunk” and Kem’s “Promise to Love” album IV in top 3.  Taylor Swift’s “Shake it Off” is iTunes’ top song.  Meghan Trainor’s “All About the Bass”, and Jessie J. Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj’s “Bang Bang” in top 3.

 

The bull climbed 68 points on the slippery slope today.  Stocks off day’s lows, surprisingly weak jobs report in focus, on pace for 1st weekly decline in 5 weeks.  10 year yield dips after jobs report. Dollar index lower but on track for weekly gain.  Health care, financials among worst performing S&P500 sectors, utilities in the green.  Gold steady closed at $1,267, silver at $19.16, copper at $3.17.  Crude oil closed at $93.29.

 

August job reports economy adds only 142,000 jobs in August.  Unemployment rate 6.1%.  Breaks string of strong gains over prior six months.  Labor force participation rate 62.8% in August vs 62.9% in July.  Average hourly earnings up 0.2%

 

Apple CEO, Tim Cook says Apple plans additional steps to keep hackers from user accounts.  Apple to alert users when someone tries to change password, restore iCloud data.  New details on Apple’s smartwatch.  It will have two sizes, wireless technology that would allow device to make mobile payments.

 

Morgan Stanley will be billing and delivering agent for Alibaba IPO.  Morgan Stanley and Credit Suisse will manage IPO lock-up.  Alibaba roadshow to start on Monday and end on Thursday, September18, begin trading September 19.  Founder Jack Ma will participate in roadshow.

 

Two of Michael Kors majority shareholders selling stocks, resign from board.  Motorola unveils new Moto X, Moto G phones, Moto 360 smartwatch. Kroger (KR) says it’s looking to hire 20,000 permanent employees for its growing chains of supermarkets.  Starbucks (SBUX) announces 2 new types of stores, upscale, reserve coffee in Seattle, speedier service in NYC.

 

MetLife is exploring ways to contest US proposal to deem insurer “systematically important”.   Ryanair (RYAAY) close to placing $10B order for Boeing 737 MAX jets, could be finalized soon.  American Airlines (AAL) is shrinking size of Envoy, its regional carrier formerly known as American Eagle.  Mercedes Benz August sales up 9.7%, boosted by small car sales.  Sales fell in Germany, but rose 9.4% in the US and 18.3% in China.

 

Small cap Prana Biotech (PRAN) says FDA gave orphan drug designation to its Huntington Disease treatment.  The stock gains 18.69%, closed at $2.54.  ICE to buy Israeli financial data firm Super Derivatives for $350M.  Sandisk (SNDK) is upgraded to overweight from equal weight at Morgan Stanley.  Oncomed (OMED) says FDA lifts partial clinical hold on trial for cancer drug.  The stock gains 5.71%, closed at $18.69. 

 

El Pollo Loco still going loco. Q2 profit soared on higher sales, lower interest expenses.  Average check size rose 2.8%, customer traffic increased 2%.  BP should be able to meet cost of up to $18B in new fines without major asset sales, big dividend cut.  Nvidia (NVDA) sues Qualcomm and Samsung accuses both of infringing on its graphics patents.  TUMI announces 8M secondary stock offering.

 

Rada Electric industry (RADA) was selected by the US Navy Office of Naval Research. The stock gains 19.43%, closed at $2.52.

 

Dollar feud continues as Family Dollar board rejects revised Dollar General bid, reaffirms support of Dollar Tree deal. Family Dollar CEO says there is a very real and material risk that the transaction proposed by Dollar General would fail to close.  Dollar Tree commits to divest as many stores as required for antitrust ok. 

 

From Dinar land : Vietnam1969 confirmed that Abu Hajjar al-Sufi, a top ISIL leader was killed in Mosul after Sandfly fired Tbomb. Nine countries within NATO agreed to create military force to strike against ISIS.  There will be no boots on the ground, airstrikes can be effective to help the Iraqi security forces and Kurdish peshmerga take the initiative and go on the offensive regaining control and maintaining the liberated areas.  Jordan, non NATO country will contribute by providing intelligence about extreme Sunni groups that may be affiliated with ISIL.  UAE says it will exert every effort to battle the terrorists that claim the creation of Islamic caliphate while they are killing and torturing civilians in a barbaric way that no religion accepts.  UAE is ready to contribute whatever it can to battle the extremists including choking their financial in the region.  UAE can be effective in  providing information about suspicious movement of people and money. 

 

Iraqi Minister of Defense says the aim is now to destroy ISIL and not only contain it, like cancer “if you don’t contain it, it may come back and spread again”.  Security forces managed to put 20 worker bees to sleep forever and destroying 4 vehicles and their weapon supplies. Anti terrorist units are headed to Tikrit after liberating Sulaiman Bek. The next object will be Mosul.  ISIL started to execute women who were not cooperating with them.

 

Religious leaders called on politicians to put the country’s interest before their own agenda to keep the country united and form an inclusive governments.  PM designate Abadi is expected to present his new cabinet to parliament for vote. 

 

NATO Sec. General said the organization will look seriously and positively into any request for assistance by Iraqi government. 

 

The visiting Canadian PM John Berd announced that Canada will provide $22M to Iraq immediately and it may increase later.  $15M will go to Iraq and peshmerga forces, $7M for displaced people.  Canada is one of the nine NATO countries that pledged to help combat ISIS.

 

Iraqiya TV interviewed a group of parliament members who want to remain anonymous.  They believe those named for top positions in the new government are qualified and were chosen because of merit and past service especially in finance, industry and monetary areas.  Abadi will present the names of his cabinet to the parliament next week.

 

Sunni and Shiite worshippers expressed their hope that all factions and sects in Iraq will come together in the battle against the barbaric ISIL.

 

From rumor land : Millionday says we are certainly close.  Pepperoni on the pizza hopes GOI is done by Saturday night. BlueyesinLevis thinks as the negotiations advanced there were so many demands that Abadi was forced to expand the number of ministries back up in order to satisfy all the blocs.  Exogen says Abadi is now down to 72 hours to announce his cabinet to the world.  Aggiedad77 thinks Abadi appears to be very serious about inclusive government.  Mt. Goat says all have signed and agreed.  Parliament is supposed to hold an emergency session on Saturday to confirm the ministers, deputies, VP and new PM.  From the desk of Stryker believes Abadi’s new government is very close and we could see a special session called at any time.  TD says his source a Kurdish friend saya NO to rv.  Delta hears from Iraqiya TV that CBI introduces a new 10,000 note, old and new will co-exist.  TNT Tony thinks by Tuesday at the latest, the nightmares will be over and dreams will begin.  DC expects this weekend will super fantastic.
