Ukraine Crisis :  A-J516 reported Ukraine officials say trucks from Russian aid convoy have crossed into Ukraine without permission.  Officials adds they consider this a direct invasion by Russia of Ukraine.  Russia sent the trucks into the rebel held city of Luhansk.  Russia said its patience had worn out after a week of delays from Ukrainian government.

 

Israel – Gaza Showdown : Thriver heard Gaza security official says Hamas has killed 18 suspected informers for Israel.  Comes day after Israeli airstrike killed 3 top hamas commanders.  4 year old Israeli boy killed in a mortar attack near the border with Gaza.  First Israeli death since fighting erupted again Tuesday.

 

Other News : Captl1 is happy to hear protests and tensions subsiding in Ferguson, MO after police killing of black teen.  Only a handful of arrests the past two nights.   Littlesam  read UN report says death toll in Syrian civil war is getting close to 200,000.  In July 2013, UN documented more than 100,000 killed.  Mexican government says over 22,000 people have disappeared since start of country’s drug war in 2006.  It had said in May that 8,000 people were missing.. playing hide and seek…?

 

Saint wonders what Chines is doing  when Chinese plane comes 30 feet from US naval plane.  It happened Tuesday 135 miles east of Hainan Island.  US is voicing its protest.  Federal judge says Argentina’s debt swap proposal is illegal.  Stopped short of holding the country in contempt, says that wouldn’t help resolve dispute.  Detectives probing July computer theft at legendary venture cap firm Kleiner Perkins.  Firm in jeopardy of losing valuable financial data.

 

Chess was in the meeting when Rep. Paul Ryan and Mitt Romney made first joint public appearance since their unsuccessful bid for the White House.  Romney interviewed Ryan about his new book.  Ryan says he’d love to see Romney runs again.  Romney praised Ryan at the Chicago event last night as a potential presidential candidate in 2016. 

 

Genx4me just smiles as Texas governor Rick Perry is testing his presidential prospects in New Hampshire.  Will be in the key early voting state today and tomorrow. 

 

Eyes on Jackson Hole : Fed Chair Janet Yellen says economy getting closer to Fed’s objectives.  FOMC questioning timing of rate hikes relative to slack.  If labor market progress is more rapid, rate hikers could be sooner.  Difficult to gauge the amount of labor slack in economy.  Considerable uncertainty over Fed’s target employment level.  Internal Fed labor market gauge suggests jobless rate overstates progress.  Wages could rise more without creating inflation.  St. Louis Fed’s Bullard says market trading more dovishly than FOMC median.  Market anticipating lower rates than our forecast.  He added he is staying with late Q1 2015 forecast for rate hike.  FOMC has been too pessimistic on job market.   Altanta’s Fed’s Lockhart says he is less convinced than others as he feels we are at inflection point.  Persistent inflation would concern us, but not seeing that.  He added he still sees first rate hike coming in mid 2015.  Stronger economic data could hasten rate hikes.  ECB President Mario Draghi will also address the gathering later this afternoon.

 

Dow was down 38 points at trading today.  10 year yields steady.  Traders focused on Fed speak.  Oil lower, gold higher after losing streak.  Energy and telecom among worst performing S&P sectors,  healthcare among best.  Gold closed at $1,280, silver at $19.39, copper at $3.20.  Crude oil at $93.65.

 

Calkid11 wonders why Federal prosecutors questioning GM’s legal dept over whether it allegedly concealed evidence.  Feds probing if evidence about faulty ignition switches was concealed from regulators and delayed recalls.

Okane hears suppliers reportedly scrambling to have enough screens ready for the new iPhone 6.  Unclear whether redesign could delay next month’s expected launch of iPhone 6.  Citi Group facing restriction on sales of hedge fund investments to wealthy clients.  Restriction comes after $285M deal with SEC to settle complaint over sale of mortgage securities.

 

Home Depot named US retail president Craig Menear new CEO effective November 1.  Under Armour (UA) offered NBA MVP Kevin Durant a shoe and apparel deal worth $250M.  Duke Energy (DUK) to sell non regulated Midwest generation business to Dynegy (DYN) for $2.8B.

 

Dish CFO Robert Olson is retiring on October 15, to be replaced by SVP of programming Steve Swain.  Boosterbglee wonders which one is better a faster flight or food  as United Continental (UAL) upgrading its first class food option, replacing snacks with meals on some shorter flights.  American Airlines (AAL) extending fees for unaccompanied minors to ages 5 to 14, now $150 for ages 5 to 11.

 

Keurig (GMCR) and Kraft (KRFT) announce licensing deal.  Kraft’s coffee to be sold in Keurig portion packs.  Rdoncampos is not surprised to hear sales of Kraft’s jello have plunged 19% in the past four years.  AK Steel (AKS) raised to neutral from hold at UBS.  Lowe’s reiterated a buy, price target raised to $60 at Argus. 

 

Goldiegirl doesn’t know if she wants to invest in corparate bond issuance moving towards a record for 3rd straight year, nearing $1T.  Companies taking advantage of low rates to stock up on cash.  Judge denies request to expedite suit by Allergan claiming Valeant, Ackman engaged in insider trading.  Valeant support of enough Allergan shareholders to call a special meeting. 

 

Wiljor is glad he is not one of many Walgreen pharmacies as they are unable to fill prescriptions due to a database failure.  Edison International (EIX) raised to outperform from market perform at BMO Capital .  Aeropostale (ARO) maintained as underperform, price target at $3.50 at Merrill Lynch.

 

From Dinar land : Defense Sec. Hagel says US airstrikes helped Iraqi and Kurdish forces regain a foothold in Iraq.  He added ISIS cannot be defeated without attacking it in Syria.  He further says ISIS is beyond anything that we have seen.  ISIS represents a whole new dynamic and new paradigm of threats to this country.  ISIS militants attacked mosque 75 miles from Baghdad during weekly prayers.  Suicide bomber and gunmen killed at least 64 people, wounded dozens.

 

Vietnam1969 reported more and more civilians are standing against ISIS including several tribes in Anbar province.  Iraq security forces engaged in fierce battle in Fallujah resulting 30 worker bees sleeping forever including one high worker bee.  Security forces managed to intercept weapon shipment through Tikrit river.  Stealthwarrior confirmed US has conducted 90 airstrikes led by Sandfly since August 8, 57 of them were targeted in Mt. Sinjar to create a safe passage for Yazidis that fled to the mountain. 

 

The newly elected Turkish pres. Tayyip Erdogan called PM Abadi to discuss ways to strengthen the relationship between the two countries especially with the oil exporation through Ceyhan port.  Grand Ayatollah Ali al –Sistani spoke through his spokesman that the new inclusive government should be formed as soon as possible.  He urged politicians to put their differences aside and work together to combat terrorism and promote the interest of Iraqi people.

 

Ministry of Electricity said they are repairing and maintaining numbers of power plants, distribution lines including high voltage lines and others.  These efforts have cost billions of dinars but the funds are made available through a series of arrangements with Ministry of Treasury and provincial government.  In the meantime Ministry of Public Works said they are working overtime to repair bridges and highways even though some highways are too dangerous to be traveled on due to ISIS.

 

One of parliament members who is nominated to be members of finance and monetary committee said  as soon as the government is formed, the agenda will be priority to move the economy forward and maintain its growth that goes hand in hand with buiding Iraq’s infrastructure.  One of MP who wants to be anonymous said monetary policies will also be thoroughly revised. 

 

From rumor land : Adam Montana believes Abadi will take the full time allowed to to seat GOI.  Millionday says they have a meeting that will be happening again tomorrow for the hopes of getting this all resolved with the formation of GOI by Monday as they are trying to get it done by Monday.  DC says Iraq would like to have the rv done prior to Monday ceremonies.  Poppy3 says he is home and still very weak and thanks everyone for the prayers.  Brietling says CBI is going to do what they said they are going to do.  Exogen thinks currency changes starts the first week of September.  Tman23 thinks CBI needs to give them the new rate for the currency before drafting 2015 budget.  WMAwhite thinks Abadi knows what he is doing and he might just pull this off next week.  Okie Oil Man is giving US two options and hopefully US will choose option 1.  Arthur hears CBI Governor Turki said there will be no reason to hesitate to delete the zeros.

Gotta believe (obviously??) that Ryan and Romney are staging themselves for 2016.

Not sure which would be in #1 position?.....either way ok with me..... :excl:

 

The Republican party would be foolish to put Mitt at the head - he might be the best person for the job, but he's not the best person to WIN it.

 

Presidential races are no longer about America... our country has devolved to the point that our Presidential elections are all about choosing the best actors or the candidate that promises the most free stuff.

 

Obama proved that twice already.

But, I believe in about 6 months or so, even the freeloaders and illegal entry

Democrats and "normal" people, are going to have an awakening from their

I really think that Mitt or Paul would destroy Hilarious in the debates!

Ryan and Romney were on Fox this past week. They wouldn't say what they're plan was but either way I would vote for either one. We someone on board that knows what it is to work for a living. Maybe we might get lucky and they've been in business before. So when they come up with idea that might be bad for business they'll recognize it.

 

Just did a loan for someone that was buying house from someone on Hilarious' staff and let's just say that he was politically correct. I asked him at the closing if she had a habit of chewing people out and the response was she was very passionate about her job. :)

If Romney gets elected, you can say goodbye to NPR and PBS, and say hello to an imposed Mormon agenda.

This means no more Sesame Street or any educational programming for kids unless it's religious education, and evolution and Darwin will be summarily buried.

 

Well I guess it's "chit-chat" for us til the GOI is officially seated, confirmed, reconfirmed, announced, published in triplicate, and ANNOUNCED PUBLICLY.

This means a VIDEO of Abadi being sworn in, and a PUBLICLY PUBLISHED list of all ministers.

 

Until that happens, nothing else is happening, not even the HCL.

Obviously it's not Romney. And I'm not saying Romney is the answer... I'm just wondering if you have the answer.

 

(Most people can't answer this question without deferring or avoiding, no matter what side of the fence they are on. How about you?)
