Morning everyone!

 

Wednesday, August 20 2014 weekly update.... like I mentioned last 

week, Abadi has some time remaining to complete his new Iraqi 

government. The Kurdish members of Parliament had walked out 

and refused to participate in any government actions last month 

under Maliki, but as of today Kurdish leaders are returning to Baghdad 

to negotiate and take part in forming the new GOI. While some have 

insisted the government would be formed quickly (like last week!), I 

don't see that happening - I believe Abadi and the rest of the parties 

involved will take the full time allowed, so we will not see a fully formed 

and seated GOI for about 3 more weeks.

 

Kurdistan continues to show strength and resolve - with the help of 

outside forces, they have at least partially reclaimed the Mosul Dam 

from the terrorists and IS looks to be getting desperate. Hopefully the 

recent beheading of innocent journalist James Foley will be enough to 

spur more countries and even the US to take serious action against 

IS... they are an evil that must be dealt with, and until they are eradicated 

they will continue to terrorize. 

 

On the financial and political end of the spectrum for Kurdistan, the KRG 

has successfully exported and sold a total of 7 million barrels of oil so far,

with the proceeds sitting firmly in Kurdish banks and nothing going to

Baghdad. They currently have 2 tankers sitting off the coast of Texas

awaiting a decision by US Courts to allow US companies to purchase this

oil... the Government of Iraq has petitioned to block this, but it's looking

like the KRG will win. When that happens, LOOK OUT! Kurdistan is currently

producing 300,000 barrels per day and they are projected to go higher. With

their pipeline to Turkey making it completely possible to export and their list of

buyers for the oil they can produce, it's going to put a LOT of pressure on 

Abadi to push the HCL through and get the country working together... all 

good for Iraq and also for the value of the Dinar! :twothumbs:

yendor  We're running out of August and I'm not "excited", yet. Do we still have time for this to be an "exciting month"  as you mentioned in a previous update?

 

 

It looks like things are slowing down while Abadi is forming his government, 

but the positives are very real:

 

1. Kurds again working with Baghdad :twothumbs:

2. Maliki appears to be accepting his fate, allowing Abadi to move forward :twothumbs:

3. KRG proving to be very strong and capable of independent action, forcing Baghdad to compromise :twothumbs:

4. Etc.

Key dates at this time are August 25th, and of course the next 20 days that Abadi has 

to seat the GOI.

 

After these 20 days are up I believe we'll start looking for movement on the HCL and then 

it's game time. :twothumbs:

fred5688  Adam,  I read the gov will be seated on Monday. Do you think when this happens, there will be an RV ?

 

 

 

I don't think it will happen that fast - Abadi has 20 days left to get it done, and I believe they 

will take the full time allowed.

 

I know the "RV Tuesday" Gurus won't agree with me on that one, but that's my opinion and 

I'm sticking to it.

That's it for this one - sorry I can't tell you it will be "done" by Monday, but I really think they 

are going to take the entire time allotted and then we'll be looking for HCL news after that.

Thanks Adam for your weekly report and it does sound more promising as time goes by but I still think it may not happen til next year (early I hope). It would be a great start for the Rv to happen at the beginning of their New Year along with their newly formed government.    :tiphat:
