 Israel – Gaza Showdown : Eburt can’t believe Israeli military says 3 rockets have been fired from Gaza, breaking cease fire.  Rockets fired near city of Be’er Sheva, no casualties. Israeli carried out airstrikes in the Gaza strip in response to renewed rocket fire.  It comes just hours before truce was set to expire. Israeli PM Netanyahu orders negotiators in Cairo to return home after Gaza rockets hit Israel and throws Egyptian efforts to arrange a long term cease fire into jeopardy. 

 

Other News :  Tankdude wonders what world we live in as two South Pasadena high school students arrested in alleged plot to shoot students and staff.  Teenagers did not have weapons, but were trying to get them.  Boosterbglee heard people in some 13,000 homes and businesses in Central California have been told to get out. 1,200 acre wildfire threatening the area.  2 square mile fire burning near Yosemite Park.

 

Zebra0101 reported at least 2 people shot, 31 arrested during Monday night clashes in Ferguson, MO.  Some police officers came under gunfire, 4 injured by rocks or bottles.  Authorities are blaming the violence on criminals who are in the crowds of peaceful protesters.  Police used tear gas, flash grenades.  Pres. Obama is sending US AG Eric Holder to Ferguson on Wednesday.  He will meet with FBI, others carrying out investigation.

 

Saint thinks it’s about time Syrian Pres. Assad’s forces stepping up their campaign against militant strongholds.  Carried out dozens of airstrikes, against ISIS in the last 2 days.  FAA has barred flights of US planes over Syria, citing extremist groups equipped with anti-aircraft weapons that could pose a serious threat.

 

Chinese media says rescuers trying to reach 29 coal miners trapped after explosion.  Blast happened early Tuesday at private mine in country’s east.  Okane is sad to hear long time NBC announcer Don Pardo died Monday at age 96.  Pardo was announcer for “Saturday Night Live” from 1975 – 2014.

 

WHO says the Ebola outbreak in West Africa has now killed more than 1,200 people.  More than 2,200 cases reported so far.  Lionsgate’s “Divergent” is Redbox’s most rented title and iTunes’ most downloaded title.  Universal’s “Neighbor”, Fox’s “The Other Woman” in top 3.

Dow gained 81 points at trading today.  Gold closed at $1,296, silver at $19.43, copper at $3.09.

Crude oil closed at $94.27 as oil heads lower.  Stocks higher after Monday rally.  Econ data, earnings and global tensions are in focus. 

 

Wiljor is doing the happy dance as Apple broke over 100 dollars at trading today, closing at $100.53.  Heinz has recalled some infant food products in China.  Local watchdog said they contained excessive levels of lead. Oncothyreon (ONTY) says Merck study of lung cancer treatment didn’t meet goal.  Chess is not a happy camper as Bitcoin slumps to $461.67 and gained it back today and closed at $478.55.

 

Standard Chartered Bank near deal to pay $200-$300M to settle NY regulators’ claims.  Alleges bank failed to review high risk deal.  Skilled healthcare (SKH) to merge with Genesis HealthCare in all stock deal. The combination of the long term care facility operators will use the Genesis Healthcare name.  Aeropostale rehires former CEO Julian Geiger, current CEO Thomas Johnson is stepping down.  FDA grants tentative approval to Lilly’s injectable insulin Basaglar, pending Sanofi patent litigation.  DOJ clears Astrazeneca (AZN) over heart drug trial, no further action planned. 

 

Sprint launches new pricing plans. Sprint offers 20 GB for $100/month but only to new customers.  McDonald’s partnering with Kraft to make and distribute bags of McCafe coffee as well as single cup pods. 

 

From Dinar land : Iraq govt’s forces launched operation to drive ISIS militants out of Tikrit, hometown of Saddam Hussein.  Advancing rapidly, but slowed by roadside bombs. Vietnam1969 is in the process of getting the names of 7 ISIS commanders killed in the airstrikes yesterday.  Stealthwarrior said they almost got Baghdadi by drone airstrike in western Nineveh province by Syrian border, but he escaped by the skin of his chinny chin chin to Raqaa where ISIL headquarter is. A-J516 reported the joint effort between Iraqi armies, air force, peshmerga forces and US air strikes have pushed ISIS out of Mosul and gained the control of Mosum dam.  They are in the process of clearing IEDs and booby traps in the area.  Pres. Obama indicated the cooperation between central government and Kurds is the catalyst for US to continue military assistance to battle ISIL.  US conducted at least 15 airstrikes to ISIL beehives, destroying their vehicles and weaponry and putting to sleep many worker bees. 

 

Gymrat76541 heard Ministry of Oil said oil production and exploration will more than double within the next three years or so.  Oil revenue remains the main source that pays for Iraq’s infrastructure building.  Iraq five year plan calls for a reduction of petro dollar from 90% to 70%. 

 

Calkid11 heard Iraqi Airways will commence flying to Beijing and other cities in China beginning August 20.  Littlesam is happy to hear Iraqis are asking the government to reduce rent for residential units to help displaced people find a home. 

 

From rumor land : Aggidad77 believes we are seeing great things from Iraq in their choices of words, they are changing and has everything in the world to be happy about.  Millionday says confirmation is real that during this year and in the upcoming months, we will see the change in the rate and the removal of the three zero currency and reduce the amount of bill circulation from 4B to 1B on the streets. This will also be done at the same time the rate and value will rise, the currency has to be all done the same time.   Millionday added Poppy3 has had a mild stroke with no operation needed.  He is awake and eating.  Our prayers go to him and his family, may the Lord grant him a complete healing and whatever blockage he had in his heart and artery will be flushed out by His precious blood, in Jesus name.  Exogen says rates were live in Australia for 1 hour.  Chattels knows nothing is finalized yet as far as the names of new ministers.  Stryker says PM Abadi will present his new cabinet to parliament on August 25th.

Lots going on these days and it's nice of you to sum up the days events and bring it here for us all to read. When this is over and our new adventure begins for all of us I vote Nadita for news woman of the year, or should I say years. Being a Mom is a full time job but here in DV it's nice to have a friend like you. Have a great day today :-)

Good evening.. burning candles at midnight is what I do a lot of times especially when the second wind kicks in :)  thank you for your always kind words.. I appreciate it.  Being a mom is one of the things I do :)  you just don't know what else I spin besides NF ;)
