(IraqiNews.com) On Wednesday Russian newspaper revealed that Iraq signed a contract worth $1 billion USD with Russia for the supply of weapons, noting that the contract was concluded during the visit of the Defense Minister, Saadoun al-Dulaimi to Moscow last week.

The Russian newspaper “Vedomosti” said,in its edition issued today, that “a new batch of Russian weapons started to arrive in Iraq.”

The newspaper quoted on sources in the Russian military-industrial complex confirmed that “during a visit by an Iraqi delegation to Moscow last week under the chairmanship of the Minister of Defense Saadoun al-Dulaimi, contracts were signed worth more than one billion dollars relating to the supply of large batches of Russian arms to Iraq, including artillery systems, guns mortar and ammunition, including 4 rocket launchers, model of “TOS-1″.

The newspaper added that “Russia will sell to Iraq 2-3 battalions of Grad rocket launchers, a large amount of mortars, anti-tank missiles and other”.

The newspaper indicated that “the Russian Defense Ministry said – in a statement – that the main objective of the visit of the Iraqi defense minister to Moscow was military-technical cooperation.”

It is noteworthy that Iraq had bought in last June 5 Russian fighter jets “Sukhoi -25″, and he is in talks about the purchase of 10 fighter jets, “Sukhoi – 27-30.”

Today, the United States announced the sale of 5,000 missiles to Iraq as part of a weapons deal valued at $700 million dollars while indicating that 180 Lockhead Martin “Hellfire” missiles have already been transferred this year and 360 more “Hellfire” missiles will be delivered in August:

We could have sold those arms, but nooooo, our leaders screwed that up also. We are as smart, swift and respected throughout the world as the village idiot.

God do I miss Ronald,

There is no turning back, we are going down in flames.

The United States has a more vested interest in Iraq than Russia does.  The United States and its citizens stand to make WAY more than $1B through partnering with a stable Iraq.  This is the reason why we established the Strategic Framework Agreement.  Don't look at that $1B, paid in iterations over a number of years, as being comparable to the type of profits Iraq's close partners stand to gain in Iraq's rebuilding of all 5 categories of its nation.  If the US had supplied Maliki with weapons, we essentially would have destroyed our investment opportunities because Maliki's current policies are completely and utterly divisive.  He is bent on suppressing the Sunnis and the Kurds which is not good for our investment.

I know many of us want to jump at any chance to denigrate US foreign policy in dealing with Iraq, but I encourage you to reconsider.  We need for Iraq's political structure to stabilize itself or else we most likely wont get paid my friends.

......more news to consider before US bashing......

and btw on NPR there was an expert on Iraqi affairs who mentioned that Iraq can purchase arms from other countries "If done the right way".  this really challenges a lot of the guru chatter saying Iraq can only buy arms from the US.

Iraq will turn to Iran, Russia and elsewhere for arms and military advice if the Obama administration won't supply what it needs to halt an Al Qaeda splinter group, Iraq's ambassador to the United States said Tuesday.

Ambassador Lukman Faily said that though Washington is the Iraqi government's first-choice arms supplier, "we have to choose whoever is available" because of the threat from the militant group the Islamic State, which during the weekend changed its name from the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria. The group also declared that it had established a caliphate in lands it has seized in Iraq and Syria.

Iraq would be willing to buy arms from Iran, even though purchases from Tehran are prohibited under international sanctions, Faily told an audience at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace."We will do that ... if we can't get cooperation elsewhere," he said.

The militant group's advance has sharpened a dispute between Washington and Baghdad over the U.S. supply of arms to Iraq. The administration has been selling Iraq missiles, fighter jets and helicopters, but its supply has not been as large, or as fast-moving, as Iraq would like.

The United States is supplying Iraq with F-16 fighter jets and Apache helicopters, but they will not arrive until fall, and the Iraqi pilots will need to be trained.

On Sunday, Russia delivered 12 fighter jets to Baghdad, a move that illustrated Iraq's willingness to turn elsewhere.

President Obama has dispatched more than 750 U.S. troops to Baghdad to help in the battle against insurgents, but he is moving cautiously.

Faily said Iraqis are convinced that the administration takes the militant threat seriously and that it intends to increase its involvement in stopping the group. Iraq has bought $10 billion worth of arms from the United States, he said.

Look at this like it is --a 3 way pissing contract---no one will deliver till there is some kind of currency exchange medium -all of these articles say US DOLLARS--bagdad --is selling oil from the south for petro-dollars---like the Kurds doing their thing also---both are legally able to do that--as long as the 5% goes into the dfi:?: funds and the money is sent to either bagdad, or the kurds get their 17%--it seems that the kurds will do that distribution--they are just tired of sending it all to bagdad and GETING NOTHING BACK--cut out the scumbags get what is owed to us now and when we are on an even keel with bagdad then we will keep selling the oil and take our 17% send that 5% to the DFI and you can have the rest --we cam do more with out 17 % then you can do with th3 78% which will be forwared to you-- PLEASE REMEMBER 5% OF THAT MONEY HAS TO BE SENT TO THE DFI----THAT IS NOT GIVEN UP YET---I like the option of the kurds will send the 5% to the DFI up front

TO JUST GO back for a minute again Putin is doing his best to destroy the US dollar--[lesson learned fr om REAGON}--- why would he want to be paid in US DOLLARS--a pissing contest for sure--exchange for oil maybe but the scales would tip against him very quickly--Russia would owe more then they could send outJust my thoughts---the only loser here is Bagdad--Russia just up front --look to the spoiler CHINA!

LUCK oil might be a good investment --the sleeper is CHnnop---however you spell it--the chins oil company that is world wide and trades with ADRs
