Israel – Gaza Showdown : Captl1 reported Israel strikes home of top Hamas leader in Gaza, no injury reported.  PM Netanyahu warns of a prolonged campaign in Gaza. Israel hit Hamas movement’s Al-Aqsa satellite tv station.  Gaza’s power plant was forced to shut down after two tank shells hit a fuel tank.  Iran’s supreme leader says muslims all over the world should help arm hamas in their fight against Israel.  US Congress seeking increased military aid to Israel.

 

Other News : A-J516 heard Obama Administration accuses Russia of violating 1987 nuclear missile treaty.  They say Moscow tested new ground based cruise missile.  Rodandstaff is not surprised to hear Fed Judge orders US Marshals to seize a cargo of oil from Kurdistan that’s on a tanker off Texas Coast.  It comes after a request from Iraqi government.  Tanker carrying 1M barrels of crude worth about $100M.  Buyer of oil is Tamlay Trading of the BVI. Genx4me feels sorry for the American doctor who contracted Ebola while working in Liberia in grave condition.  Dr. Kent Brantly, in email says he’s terrified of disease progressing.  Wiljor wonders what will be announced tomorrow as Fed Reserve begins two day meeting today, with decision and statement tomorrow.  They will continue tapering, no change in rate expected.  Argentina facing default if it doesn’t reach deal on bond payment by tomorrow.

 

The bull is playing teeter totter as it slipped 70 points on the slippery slope again today.  Gold closed at $1,291, silver at $20.62 and copper unchanged at $3.22.  Costco is upgraded to conviction buy from neutral at Goldman Sachs. Spark Energy (SPKE), an energy services firm begins trading today at $18/share.  Tekla Healtcare (THQ), investment firm begins trading today at $20/share. DOJ and BOA settlement talk hung up over penalties for Countrywide, Merrill.  Microsoft is target of Chinese anti-trust probe.  Airbnb and Uber have new versions of their apps geared towards booking business trips.  Both firms cut deals with expense reporting software firm Concur. Saint is one of members of OKCupid online dating site admits to Facebook-style experiments, mismatched users. Aecom Technology (ACM) is buying stadium construction specialist Hunt.  This is their 2^nd acquisition in two weeks.  Caterpillar to buy back $2.5B of stock.  Panasonic to initially invest $200-$300 million in Tesla battery plant.  Calkid11 will watch Winstream (WIN) spins off telecom assets into publicly traded REIT. It received private letter ruling from IRS for REIT conversion.  Winstream spinoff will lower debt by $3.2B and increase free cashflow.  This spinoff is expected to occur in Q1 2015. Rdoncampos thinks Panera is a strong buy, also watch Pfizer and Merck.  Japan unit of McDonalds withdraws FY earnings guidance after shutdown of a major supplier.  McDonalds says NLRB may call it “joint employer” with franchisees, expose it to liability.

Viciousdoggie is not surprised Iraq extradited a man wanted by US Marshals after a jury convicted him for bribery during the Iraq war.  Melthin Atellan, holds dual citizenship of US and Turkey.  This will be the first extradiction between US and Iraq since 1936.  Gymrat76541 heard Nikoli Mladenov, UNSC special representative said in Baghdad that the fall of Mosul to ISIL was due to several reasons and there are only two ways to solve the Iraqi crisis : one is to form a unity and inclusive government and the other to form a technocrats government.  Eventually Iraq will find its way to solve its problems.  Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs is hoping the interest free loans to small business owners will create employments. Goldie Girl read that UNSC has given statement, warning any nations purchasing oil originating from Iraq or Syria from any Islamic group such as ISIL or Jabhat al Nusra will entail in aiding terrorist organizations. 

 

From rumor land : Chattels says the same decision that put Maliki in office in 2010, may put him out in 2014.  Tlar is changing his prediction to within days of the parliament nominating PM which means it could take another week, once we see the nominee announced in parliament, his guess is that starts the clock.  Millionday says the new payment card service will be at banks, all payrolls and payment will be made then.  Mailman17 has been 86 cent man but now he is thinking 86 cents ain’t gonna do it.  They might go higher.  Stryker says Maliki did sign the NA document declaring them as the largest bloc.  Bluwolf says the three key positions have to be seated, once it is published in Gazette, it will be official and international release shall be given.  Poppy3 thinks we can expect to hear the PM announcement within the next 5 days.
