Iraq: al-Maliki rejects Iran's urging to step down

BAGHDAD: Senior Shiite politicians say Iraq's Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki rejected an attempt by top ally Iran to persuade him to step down, underlining his determination to push for a third term in office.

Al-Maliki has resisted pressure to step aside, including from former Shiite political allies. His critics call him too divisive to win Sunni support against a Sunni insurgency.

Two senior Shiite politicians told The Associated Press on Wednesday that Iran's point man in Iraq, Gen. Ghasem Soleimani, tried to persuade al-Maliki to step down during a recent meeting.

Al-Maliki refused, arguing his political bloc won the most parliament seats, said the politicians, one of whom attended the meeting and the other of whom was briefed about it. They spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss the closed-door meeting.

Thanks DT...Yep, He's definitely on the warped side and will more than likely regret this offer this late in the game...but from the source that just presented the offer...their next option might not be negotiable...

Maliki,in his demented and twisted mind, just can't wrap that brain cell around the fact that Iraq is a parliamentary government.

It would not matter if he had twice the amount of ballots cast in his favor in the general election.

This is a prime example.......if you piss your fellow politicians off, they can and will put together alliances and remove you with their vote.

M is still throwing his temper tantrums because he got the most votes { most were bought or gained through coersion} and his rivals are going to mop up the floor with his evil arse ;-)
