Indraman
Don't the Dems control the Senate? I thought they only need 50 votes (+1 tie-breaking vote from Biden) to move legislation? So this must mean that some of the Dems sided with those nasty Repubs, doesn't it? Oh well, the Dems have their low-information voter propaganda item to go into the election with this fall. This way they can deflect, delay, blaim others for all of the so-called trumped-up scandals. Can't wait to see what they are going to do for the other hot-ticket items in this country: 1) blame repubs for income inequality...I mean, the war on women, 2) amnesty for illegals...I mean "Immigration Reform", 3) voter suppression by Repubs...I mean legal lawsuits against the states who have passed voter ID laws, 4) global warming...I mean global change...awe I can't remember what the environmental wackos are calling it today. Indy well sure there were some paid off defectors in the Dems but as usual the Repubs stood firm and together on keeping down the lower class at obama's current gas prices, even $20 / hr wouldn't lift anyone out of poverty. nothing will help all the mentally ill treasonous loons in the democratic party. I drove in France in 2011 gas was $7.50 a gallon Perhaps if you drive a truck in the US of A that gets 15 mpg... Mountain Girl
I'm glad it didn't pass. The owner of the small restaurant that I work at already informed us that if the minimum wage goes up to $10 an hour, all of the servers will be laid off. She will have no choice but to go to counter service. If it goes up to $15 an hour, like they are talking about doing here in Washington, she will have no choice but to close the restaurant. Raising the minimum wage doesn't hurt the big businesses, they can handle the cost. What it hurts are all of the small businesses that can not. Weird part is, she's a Democrat. Big Obama fan. It's just weird to me, to vote for people that are always trying to put you out of business.
George Hayduke
Republicans "said NO to help millions of working to lift themselves out of poverty." Progressives define 'Help' as a financial handout. Financial handouts stagnates the economy and devalues the dollar which lessens purchasing power. Conservative define 'Help' as opportunity. Opportunity taken energizes the economy and stabilizes the dollar and increases purchasing power. Like it or not, sometimes, NO is the best answer. Obama doesn't control gas prices - the capitalists do. Sooo... if Obama isn't a capitalist, what is he...? sportfisher
Obama doesn't control gas prices - the capitalists do. in an accidental, indirect way this is the only true thing you have ever stated, "Obama is not a capitalist" (even though he loves spending, and giving our capital to the enemy) he is a muslim brotherhood terrorist foreign agent of destruction, giving our capital to his people..............our enemies. You are correct, not a capitalist, not American. But, his mission to destroy the US (his agenda) and his policies (most of which fail by design) do have a huge impact on gas prices in the USA. Since you are a dis-informationist yourself, you will most assuredley deny it all.

Sage449
Allegedly a full time person works 2080 hours per year annually - so for a FT person to move to $10.10 per hour, that makes that annual salary $21,008 before taxes - not exactly lifting anyone out of poverty as O indicated. Last time I heard anything FT under $25,000 still is considered below poverty or at poverty level. So if this means that FT will be moved to PT say 30 hours per week – then 52 weeks x 30 hours x $10.10 = salary of $15,756 before taxes are taken………how does this lift anyone out of poverty? I don't consider this a hand up but a kick in the face and keep you down bro. Edited May 1, 2014 by Sage449
gymrat76541
Republicans traditionally represent big business & since raising the minimum wage would cost them Billions............................................it's worth a couple million in contributions to re-election funds to block this legislation. cranster
that ought to help the democrats all across the board in the mid term elections Republicans have shot themselves in the foot again protecting big business and screwing main street again... Or, option B is that Republicans want to avoid the necessary tremendous increase in the costs of goods, and services to cover the wage hike. Contrary to popular opinion there are no free lunches here. A wage increase would have to be covered somehow, and businesses aren't going to cover it out of their own pockets, they will pass it on to us.

caz1104
If one side(republicans) has "traditionally", one can surmise I wasn't speaking of them. Sage449, STOP your making sense and confusing those that this bill was supposed to save. dontlop
capitalism is regarded as an economic system distinguished by certain characteristics whose development is conditioned by still other elements. The basic characteristics are: (1) private ownership of the means of production, (2) a social class structure of private owners and free wage-earners, which is organized to facilitate expanding accumulation of profit by private owners; and (3) the production of commodities for sale. Conditioning elements are: (a) a certain division of labor; ( institutional arrangements to insure a dependable supply of wage labor; © a degree of social productivity sufficient to permit sustained investment; (d) commercial organization of the market—including banks—whose scope is adequate to the productivity of the community; (e) a political process whereby economic power can become translated into governmental policy; (f) a legal structure that is protective of private property; and (g) a certain toleration—at the least—of new ways of making a living. dontlop
Businesses use standard business platforms They do not make less money when a govt raises taxes or minimum wage They make 8 % before the tax hike and they make 8% after the tax hike So raising taxes gives big business a raise , thTs right they make more money if you raise their taxes They make 8% off the net So if they made 100 dollars before the tax hike They made 8 dollars profit Say you raise taxes 50% So the next year they make 150 dollars and because they will make 8% off the standard business platform they all use They will now make 12 dollars profit after a tax hike The bad part about raising taxes is they pass along costs to the consumer automatically with these standard business platforms so they still make their 8% profits So instead of you paying a dollar for a hamburger like you used to you now pay 1.50 A 50% hike in your price of a hamburger So who's paying the tax increases that the democrats put on businesses ? You are , not them It's the same thing when any costs go up It's added in and the profits go higher for the businesses Its bad for the working man Raising minimum wage only increases your costs so you can give the money to the big businesses to pay for the added expenses You cannot ever change anything by raising taxes or minimum wage You just fixed something that still needs fixed problem is it was never broken The only ones that vote for those policies are those with out the ability to think things thru The low information voters Our govt knows that That's why when the democrats win they put out more money into the educational programs because there's to many dumb people , they know this simply because the democrats won You need some dumb people to clean Sewers , load trucks , sweep floors , no brain jobs So every country has low information people by design But they try to maintain a majority of intelligent people So if the dems win it means to many dummies Fix that .
