whatsthis Can we have your opinion on Maliki trying to get marshal law in place to postpone elections?

 

 

 

Maliki is a dictator, despite his "elected position", just like our president. He will push through anything he needs to, in order to serve his goal. (Hint: look at Obamacare)

 

So, what's my opinion? It's pretty simple... Maliki will make plenty of his friends and cronies wealthy, and I'm happy to ride on those waves.

 

new york kevin What is the benefit to either side in the GOI/Kurds in delaying the passing of the GOI budget till after the election sometime this month? What are the plans, A or B, for the various outcomes?

 

 

NYK, as always a great question - the major benefit is like playing poker: if you get to see your opponent's hand you will bet differently!

Candy01 I understand the UN has given Iraq a deadline of April 14th to finally pass the budget.  What if Iraq does NOT do this? 

Also, what if Maliki gets a THIRD term by some miracle, or by election cheating?  Would this KILL the RV? Thanks Much!

 

 

Hey Candy!

 

First - the UN is a joke, and they can't force Iraq to do anything at this point. Second, if Maliki wins a third term (which I believe he will), that just gives him the freedom to push things in his favor... and you'll be hard pressed to find a way that an RV won't benefit him.

 

 

Francie26 Adam, I'm confused,  I keep reading that Maliki is trying to get dictator-like control of Baghdad, closing the city from entry or exit, etc., and I've read that he wants to get parliament to sign a huge list of things he can do to grab absolute control, and that he would do this if he still wants to stop the RV,  but then I also read somewhere that he is doing this so he can maintain control when he allows the change in currency without a riot. And then I also read that he has no control over the RV, that only the CBI can do that. I managed to keep up for a while, but then suddenly I fell off the edge and have no clue what is going on. LOL! Francie, it sounds like you're doing too much reading. I was there in the beginning too... and at some point, I decided to stop paying attention to all the "noise" and focus on what I felt to be true.

 

So here's what I have found to be true.

 

1. Iraq is making a comeback. Just look at their progress over the last decade!

2. The "noise" of gurus, pundits, bloggers, and even Iraq's reporters... it's just noise. I don't have time for it.

3. At the end of the day, I have "risked" a certain amount of my money on this venture. And I'm happy with losing it all, or winning a much bigger prize. Obviously I'm rooting for the BIG win, but I'm OK either way!

countryroads Adam, could you please tell me how many times the budget has been read and how many time does it need to be read? Then after all of the readings have taken place, how long will it take to get it in the Gazette (if it needs to posted in the Gazette).

Also, if you were Maliki would you be more interested in getting elected or trying to stop the RV, and the countries economy in general.

One more thing, just how stable is the country of Iraq at this time?

 

 

Budget readings - I haven't counted, sorry.

How long - I am guessing, but I doubt it will be more than a day for a significant change.

If I was Maliki - All the above.

Everything seems to be moving in the right direction with the last few weeks of news articles coming out of Irak. Their are many on this site who contribute countless hours to keep us informed and up to date on current events that pertain to our collective goal. Congrats to all of the above whom Adam mentioned and keep up the fine job. Thanks to Adam for "keeping it real" and I look forward to sharing the triumph with you all when the RV takes place.

It adds something to consider, but from what I've considered so far... I'm sticking with my original prediction (+maybe a little more, but not a lot.)

 

 

one2one my main concern now is that Iraq still has no world-wide tradable currency--at the same time # 2 on the  OPEC list of oil exports--what in the world's financial systems is holding this up ?

Adam, could the RV holdup be due to a soon-to-be "world financial reset"?  Is there really a plan in the works to reset the entire world's currency? Or is it just rumor?  If it's a fact, and there really is a world financial reset in the offing, how will that impact us?  (I hope I'm not the only one who  "missed the memo--only heard the rumor," but who thinks this might even be possible). 

 

 

I don't think so - any "GCR" that might happen will be completely independent of Iraq's exchange rate.

Hate to be a bummer......we thought the HCL was going to be taken care of within days 6 weeks ago....  Can someone give me any hope that will change my mind.    All this news is great, but nothing is happening...except governmental infighting.  At least that is the way I am seeing things.
