As of right now, there more than a dozen boats trapped in the Arctic ice.

They were trying to navigate the legendary Northwest Passage.

This because they were convinced there would not be any after the claims made by prominent scientists and media.

I'm sure some of those people will not survive...DM

Churchville, VA—The naïve advice of ardent activists can kill. Last spring, Paul Beckwith of Sierra Club Canada predicted that the Arctic seas would be ice-free ice this summer. (So did Britain’s BBC network) This exciting adventure opportunity attracted a variety of yachts, sailboats, rowboats, and kayaks owners to try sailing the fabled Northwest Passage.

As a former sailboat owner I can understand their excitement, but my heart aches for the agonies they now face. The Arctic sea ice suddenly expanded 60 percent this fall, after the coldest summer in the modern Alaska temperature record. The passage is now impassable. More than a dozen of the boats are trapped, apparently even including a group of tiny American jet-ski “personal watercraft” that were attempting to cross from the east coast of Russia to the North Atlantic.  Arctic observers are now warning that even Canadian icebreakers might not be able to rescue them.

The Northwest Passage blog reminds us that fall super storms are a potentially deadly fact in Alaska. “It is only a matter time.
. . . Give Mother Nature her due time and she will move billions of tons of sea ice and push it up against the Alaska Arctic coast—effectively closing the door to exit the Arctic ice from western Canada. . . . No icebreakers are going to be able to offer any assistance. Mother nature is mightier than all the icebreakers put together.”  Note that the Atlantic exit is already problematic.

Helicopter rescues on Arctic ice are incredibly expensive, involving hundreds of miles of flying by copters and crews expensively maintained in that icy and sparsely populated region. Additionally, all the lovely boats become write-offs.

The boaters ignored major warning signs. The planet has not warmed appreciably in at least 15 years. NASA told us in 2007 that the Pacific Ocean had shifted into the cool phase of its 60-year cycle and that fact predicted cooler winters until 2030.

Most concerning of all is that the costs of an Arctic sailing mistake are horrendous. Wonderfully preserved hulks of sunken explorers’ ships litter the sea-bottom around the Northwest Passage. Some of the vessels that survived the ice were trapped for as long as three winters. At least one sailboat recently froze into the ice near Svalbard. The captain and his boat were buried under the heavy snow, 100 miles from human habitation. (He actually survived to write a book.)

Inevitably, being gullible carries a price tag

The risks run by the Arctic boaters are obvious. Modern society is running less obvious risks based on the same sort of naïve advice coming from the Sierra Club, Greenpeace, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, and a host of like-minded “saviors of the planet.” What about the poor and elderly Britons and Germans who have frozen to death in their homes because they couldn’t afford the higher costs of gas and electricity imposed by “renewable fuels”?

What about the millions of Third World mothers and children who die of lung diseases every year as it is politically incorrect to give them access to tiny amounts of kerosene for heating and cooking. The alternative is burning dung and charcoal in indoor, poorly ventilated fires.

Closer to home, what about the millions of young Americans who can’t get jobs in an economy stalled by overpriced “green” energy and investor uncertainty over the War on Coal?  Inevitably, being gullible carries a price tag. We are just beginning to realize how expensive the naïveté of the environmental movement has become.

Yeah they were wrong , I've suspeted that for a while now. But no captian worth his salt would make a trip like that on the speculation of a scientist ....... The captians and crews of those boats are grown ups they made there decision and it could have fatal consequences for them all sadly.

It's not fair to blame a scientist for there deaths, that would be like me sending a dry cleaning bill to the tv weatherman everytime he gets it wrong.

What this does highlight is the fact that these so called experts really don't know what there talking about most of the time and we should ivestigate there claims before government's blindly take there word and pump billions of tax payer funds into so called green industries.

Some are even claiming we could be at the start of another cold snap, like the precursor to the last ice age. If so we're all in for it. Another ice age would mean 90% of the world's population would die.

It's obvious the folks stuck in the ice were not thinking clearly.

My whole intent was to try to put a definitive real life issue out to those on this board that still desperately cling to all claims progressive.

Yeah, I know, some are just too brainwashed or to too mentally challenged to be able to break away from the extreme left agenda, but there HAS to be some whose heads are not firmly stuck in a dark and smelly place...

I am not going to argue with you flat earthers on this because it's like trying to persuade a drunk to stop drinking...

But I will pose a question:  even if climate change is a natural cycle, and you are RIGHT, you Ok with your children's lungs filling up with refinery pollution and car exhaust? OK with mercury from coal? OK with higher temps and bigger storms every year? OK with acid rain killing out trees we use to breathe oxygen? OK with all that?

The auto and the plane were invented at the turn of the century. The plane went on to become the F-4 Phantom jet. The car? Basically the same internal combustion, piston creature it was. Explanation? We had the need to change the plane. We used it in war. The car was just to sell to the public. So don't tell me we can't make clean cars.

Perhaps answer without calling names and repeating your previous statements.

"overpriced" grene energy? I'd say a trillion dollar oil war is overpriced gas...

green energy is about 2% of the market in the US

Typical of you, don't you think? You seem to be highly sensitive to name calling, yet the first thing you do is to name call and denigrate those with opposing views as less intelligent. You certainly hold yourself in high esteem.

And in yet another display of brilliance, you attempt to change the subject or at the very least, to offer a new approach and diversion. Instead of admitting that anthropogenic global warming isn't the boogeyman that it's been made out to be, change the question.

I will admit that the questions you pose are valid, and had those pushing the "global warming" myth been led by your questions, and not attempted to use it as another way to selectively punish and punitively tax entire populations, then us "flat earthers" may have gone along with your efforts to develop cleaner sources of energy that are effective and efficient. And I agree that humans could certainly do more to have a smaller impact on our environment through the use of said technolologies. when private industry solves the issues inherent in "greener and cleaner" solutions and they become cost and energy efficient, those technologies will be readily accepted and adopted. Government should stay out of it as they rarely get things right.

Ah shabs I have to disagree with you there.Since 1976 we introduced the first catalytic converter

and smog equipment.we done away with leaded fuels in 1976 the vehicles we make today dont get near the

mileage because the oil pigs want us buying that high priced fuel.Heavy and light enz have been reduced

by 60%.heavy duty smog laws in effect.Whats bad is we are the only country trying to clean up

our atmosphere just take a look at any china pic today there air is very polluted most wear oxygen masks

because they dont want to comply. The USA removed all 2 stroke vehicles from its roads if each country

did the same as our model the earths air would be very clean.Go out and look at your exhaust pipe

when your vehicle is running you'll see water dripping out of the pipe the cars today produce oxygen

and that makes the water vapor that you see now.BMW runs so clean you could breath off the tailpipe

less than .1% co2 and .1%oxides of nitrogen.if you pull the oilstick on a bmw the engine would die

they recirculate the exhaust inside the engine multiple times before anything comes out the tailpipe.

I am a member of the bureau of automotive repair and a member with consumer affairs.

and I have a current smog license so I dam sure know my stuff.I own a 5 gas analyzer

dam I'm a geek sheet.I just realised that sheet.Guess thats what happens when you spend

20 years in college.sheet.guess I just wasted my life.Go ahead and look at any

china pic today now thats polluted air.ours is way cleaner than anyones.

I think thats the first time I disagreed with shabs but thats ok we all make mistakes

yes I do to.

"stuck not thinking clearly"

 you flat earthers

 you are RIGHT,

The plane went on to become the F-4 Phantom jet.  We had the need to change the plane. We used it in war. The car was just to sell to the public. So don't tell me we can't make clean cars.

Perhaps answer without calling names and repeating your previous statements.

You should post before coffee more often "stuck not thinking clearly"  at least you had the decency to make your disclaimer before your post. In respect for your incapacitated condition, I'll go lightly on this.. hope you get better soon and finally start thinking clearly...

oops.. you did it.   you are RIGHT, .I realize it was by mistake, but you actually told a truth... Yes, I know I am right, thank you for acknowledging that..

In other matters, if anyone reject the known to be false warming reports they are a "flat earther"?

If that term means I am recognized as having the ability to think for myself and reject the establishments lies, then I will wear it with pride.

If you are upset I checked for myself, and discovered the very same people touting this "sky is falling warming" BS are the very same people that set themselves up to make billions by exploiting humans throughout the world, who are the same ones that consider themselves the privileged elites, and live in luxury while callously instructing everyone else to suffer so they can continue to exploit, then by all means, fume away.

Now, you are saying what, all inventions are evil? really?

You just popped off a reply before coffee, right?

Otherwise you would have realized the hypocrisy and ignorance in your post, and even I know your not THAT "challenged".

You are now demanding all cars are evil too?

Naw, even coming from a hysterical chicken little, I don't believe you actually thought about that before spitting it out.

What about electricity? Following your position, electricity was used to power the gps, which was used to guide the missiles,  which were used to take out terrorists, so your saying electricity is evil and needs to be abandoned.

What about the electricity that is used to heat your freaking home and turn on your computer, so you can log on and tell everyone how evil they are for not agreeing with you?

You first call me a name, then demand no name calling.

Really?

That reply was  full of contradictions and your naive conclusions were more in line with what an 8th grader might say.

I really have no desire to destroy you, after your public display of inconsistent and contrary statements, you are doing a very nice job of establishing yourself as nothing but an angry and deceptive shill.

The writer of this article sounds like a "Drama Queen" to me.

Divemaster all due respect... this is not a lefty/righy issue... why do you continue with the divisive rants?

It sure doesn't help with getting your points across.

Maggie, I am concerned.

If pointing out how innocent humans will now die due exclusively to false claims made by people that expected to get rich from those lies make me divisive, I would challenge your definition of that word.

This post was in fact aimed directly at progressives.

You have said yourself you understand the progressives are only out to destroy America.

Are you now not a Libertarian?

Are you now a communist/socialist?

If so, then that changes everything.

It's a myth...told by thousands of trained scientists the world over? I am not going to get sucked into arguing an obvious issue.

Sorry for calling the article writer, (not the poster at DV) an idiot. I should have called him "uniformed."

I worked as a professional environmentalist in the nineties on Everglades issues, so yes I do know a few things about it.

You also did not address my question in the post - would you mind answering it, if you care to?

Nobodys gonna die.

The coast guard`s official policy on this is

everyone gets rescued whether they can afford it or not.

They are bound by law to rescue every last idiot out there.

and yes they are idiots not cause they were fooled by the global warmers .

Cause they were warned weeks ahead of time by the coast guard themselves and chose not to listen and to be thrill seekers.

I hope they have to make monthly payments on their rescue for years .

Just for putting our boys in the coast guard in harms way.

Didnt you know the only way for cleaner air, is the government to tax us more!

That's all it's about. The science is fake, their emails prove that. It's all another way into our wallets.

Ole al gore. Leer jet, limousine liberal, living in house big enough for fifty people.

Yeah I need to cut back. It's all about crony capitalism, and giving billions to fake green energy companies.

Whateva Divemaster  No reasoning with you... good luck to you in getting your points across.

Really?

Here's the thing, I was speaking to people that actually think before they speak.

Since that is not the case, let me spell it out for you.

While there are some establishment cons that have jumped in on the bandwagon, they will be easily enough stopped, as they are both fearful of public anger directed at them for not accepting the fraud, and trying to walk the delicate PR line for reelection. The conservatives were skeptical of the entire farse from the beginning.

All progressives are haters and  deniers, that is not saying the establishment from both sides are any different, because I stated so many time I despise them both that for you to sit there and crucify me for not saying that every time is extremely vile and immature.

I have seen you act like a patriot one day then try to destroy a thread the next simply because the exact right words were not used and you got yourself in a huff.

If you are so willing to destroy and valid point just because you are so arrogant then so be it, apparently you have not yet figured out you are only hurting yourself when you do that.

See, the progressives don't care, they would in fact rather die than admit they were ever wrong.

If I am supposed to only use certain words, the go right on and be offended

I am so sick of your damn political correctness I really don't care anymore.

It is people like you that are the problem.

If I can't talk to you like a grown up then it is useless.

I am not alone.

If you are unable to remember any of our conversations, and you demand I must type several paragraphs to continuously restate my position, then this will just never work.

I backed you up several times when no one else understood your position based on your words, but gave you a pass based on previous statements.

And to thank me you toss out judgements at the first opportunity?

really?

I didn't think you were like that, congrats, you managed to destroy the thread.

Are you REALLY that mindless?

Read Maggie's last post, Divemaster.

I would actually be interested in seeing your source on this number.

Perhaps it would help if you were a little more specific.  Are you talking about sea ice?

Regardless, I would certainly hope that the ice coverage has rebounded since 2007.  Do you realise the extent to which the sea ice retreated in 2007?  Do you understand what caused this?

interactive-tool-300x239.png

The graph above is interactive and shows the extent of Arctic sea ice.  If you click on 2012, you will see that that was another bad year.

Global warming is another liberal lie to steal money from people across the world.

I shall wait with bated breath for your evidence supporting your theory.
