Obviously, he wouldn’t be a fan of Donald Trump and he would see him as a reincarnation of those Boorish Apartheid Leaders who were ethnic nationalists, who only governed for their own people,” said Stengel. “He would also see Trump through this lens of tribalism,” he added. “Trump is a tribal leader of a white nation of people who are a little less educated, making less income, older men. That’s his tribe and that’s who he represents.” “There’s a rise of ethnic nationalism, ethnic authoritarians around the world, and Mandela would see Trump as an example of that,” said the former Obama official.
