The Redskins Defeat the PC Left; Networks Yawn

It’s officially over. The Washington Redskins have defeated the politically correct left. And the liberal media couldn't care less. The Washington Post, a newspaper that led the fight against the team keeping the name, relegated the story to the metro section. The headline announced, “Washington Redskins win trademark fight over the team’s name.” All three networks on Thursday night and Friday morning skipped the news.

Post writers Ian Shapira and Ann E. Marimow conceded, “On Thursday, after protests outside NFL stadiums, vows by sports journalists never to use the word and even former president Barack Obama urging team owner Daniel Snyder to change the name, the battle petered out.”

They added:

On Thursday, the five Native Americans fighting the NFL team over its trademark registrations called it quits in federal appeals court. So did the Justice Department, which on Wednesday declared the team the winner.

This is the same Post that spent 32,000 words in 2012 and 2013 attacking the name, the paper that was disappointed to do a poll and find out that 90 percent of Native Americans don’t find the name offensive. (In May of 2016, when that poll was conducted, the networks ignored it.)
